how strong is the 8 3/4 #741 case?

I I don't think the total length is as important as the spring perches would be. Get a measurement, grind them off and move them into the correct locations and weld then back on the tubes. It may even help for tire clearance.

My 273 turned out to be a 318...what did I buy?

It has the 67' 273 valve covers, so someone tried to make it look like a 273. First thing I would do before driving it is, change the thermostat housing. Those chrome ones always leak.

    318 gurus/historians

Hope they went to a good home and are being used, as they should be. I had 4 and sold 2 so they can be used. I have one in my car (in the photo) and one for a back up. maybe going to put it in a special vehicle one day, if I don't get too old first. LOL

How much power will a stock 904 handle

I coul I could be wrong but I had a few B200 and B300 vans and they were all 727's with a 8 3/4 rear or dana 60. The rears will fit in a "B" body. Just a 1/2 inch wider, I believe. Many years ago. The dana's were 8 lugs, so could not be used easily.

Help me decide on a floor jack

Tt That is the one I have, low profile 3 ton aluminum, costs around $180. Had it for 5 years and picks the front end of my 2500 Cummins Truck with no problem. Had two Lincons and the seals go out after a couple years.

    318 gurus/historians

My book says the block is a 318, race engine, around 77'-78'. The heads appear to be the same time frame. Should be painted orange, which surprises me, because most engines were blue or black back then.

Street Outlaw star dies in wreck.

A true statement. Some people "LOVE" the thrill of dangerous hobbies. Any kind of racing, sky diving, boxing or any other hard sports. Many die or are injured in NASCAR. Indy or even your local Roundy, rounds. It's a chance you take to have your personal run. Driving on the interstate is a...

Got a new Truck (new to me)

I know the 78-79 "Little red Express" had the four barrel set-up in trucks, as well as the "War locks", which also had the 440's in 79', I believe the only year. Vans also had some Bib Boy motors, but the linkage were different as in solid linkage and not cable.

Got a new Truck (new to me)

I had the same issue with my 72' van conversion, 318 2bbl to a 340, 4 bbl. The parts will work with a little adjustments. On the kickdown slide, I had to add a nut and bolt for a stop to make it work correctly. I recall, I had to bend the intake bracket for a better aliment for the throttle...

    Intake Manifolds

I run a Holley Street Dominator on my mild build 70' 340 and well please with it. I also like its "low profile" to fit under my dog house in my van. I also don't like cutting and scooping a hood.

Vans had the same issue with the power steering mounts, specially with larger tires. Had mine welded 3 times.

Big Valve X Heads on Low Comp 72 340

Not sure on how this became my comment, but it is not. Mine was, I have "Z" and "O" heads on my vans 340. I believe they are from 1970 and from a "E" body. They appear to me the same format as the "X" heads. 2.02/1.60

Big Valve X Heads on Low Comp 72 340

There is a difference between the "J" and "X" heads. "J" heads came on early 360's and I (had done) use to machine them into 2.02's. The trucks ran better, but I also installed a 4 bbl intake and headers on them. Maybe that is the reason they ran better.

    Are 340’s rare

I think it is easier to find one now then 50 years ago. I bought a 72' Dodge Van, new and around 74', I began looking for one for it and it took until 79' to find one, but I had to buy the whole car (69' Dart swinger). The cars are now disappearing, but the motors are kept. I have had several...

    Intake manifold questions

The street dominator is what I run on my 340, in my van. The main reason I bought it back in the 70's is for the clearance in the dog house.

    Should I buy this 440?

Vans and trucks came with the 440's in the late 70's. The "Worlock" was one for the truck. The big "B" vans and EMS also had them.

Got a new Truck (new to me)

I believe the new vehicles of today let the hot water run all the time through the heating coil and it is the blend doors that open and close for the heating system to operate.

I get it, but the humor I see is the OP bought it. I would not of taken it home from free, unless I had a boat, as you say.

Got a new Truck (new to me)

Not sure why you are using a "manual shut-off" control devise for the heater. Also I always like my coil attached to the engine, for limiting vibrations movements. I know anti-freeze is for cold climates, to help keep the cooling system from freezing, but I believe it also helps in over heating...

    Advice needed on manifold repair

Why are all of you making fun of a boat anchor? They have a useful place. I call the manifold a "conversational piece". I have a connecting rod for one, that looks like a pretzel, out of a 340 I blew up. The cylinder looks like a corning ware dish that was dropped on a tile floor.

I need some fuel sending unit experts please

Dumb Question!!!! Do you have fuel in the tank. Reason I ask this is, the pulsing current from the dash is correct and the float unit works out of the tank (manually operating) and you say your ground is good. If you are relying on the fuel line clip strap as a ground, make sure the clips are...

    Advice needed on manifold repair

They don't cost much, I would buy another one. I have seen these for $100.00 or so. Sometime less. It looks like a 70' intake. Any 340 intake will do but this one, I would toss. They are not that difficult to come by, for around $100.00, more or less.

    Off idle hesitation - solved

Most of the time when I have a carb issues, it is not the settings, but a cleaning one. When I dismantle a carb, I document the screw settings and location (left or right) and start from there when assembling. The plunger and plunger arm slots should also be documented. This should put you on...

    Off idle hesitation - solved

Another good reason to spray carbs, every now and then with carb cleaner and not W-D 40 or other sprays. Any oil product will attract dirt and gum up and bind the linkage. My 340 was starting to not have any balls (there is that word again) in power and it was the accelerator pump. (plugged...
