Well I’m slowly but surely getting closer to dropping this mystery 340 into the cuda, just about finished up fabrication of the engine mount brackets just need to drill holes and paint

If you take a gander at a couple of pics I’ve posted you will see that there is no machined pad near the oil pan the only numbers that have been stamped are the ones near the head nowhere else

No number anywhere on or near the bellhousing

that explains a couple things, is it possible/normal that the replacement engine would be an earlier year? Also because the engine is a 67 there is no machined pad near the oil pan rail.

Not finding any drilled holes near the freeze plugs but I did notice something quite interesting. I got this engine and car from the second owner and he was very insistent on keeping them paired, that and the transmission. In fact, it was his dying wish or I never would have gotten it from him...

So the number on the front of the engine has no indication of the body VIN whatsoever? Just out of curiosity is the secondary number just a partial VIN or is it a combination of engine size, build date and VIN??

Here’s the x head castings, not sure if they are the original x heads or replacement x heads but there are definitely similarities.

Just out of curiosity if this is a 67 block which came with “x” heads (still installed) is it possible they did not add the second serial number? There isn’t even a blank machine pad where a number should have been stamped

That’s kinda where my line of thinking was. I guess I should just be grateful it’s a 340 like what was originally envisioned. Thank you for your input on this as there is no secondary engine I.D to be found on this block, not near the bell housing nor the oil pan rail.

Okay the cast date on the side is 6/22/67 that pic with the small arrow and circle of dots near the top of the screen is just below the cast date. I will take another pic of that side when I get home. Those boards of wood you see near the bottom of the screen are a cradle that the pan sits in...

ohh crap so that means there is still a possibility that my numbers will be matching? Honestly I will be truly shocked if that is the case not that is terribly important but it would be a pleasant and welcome surprise.

Hello all just thought I would throw this in to the mix of knowledge around here would DW340P ever end up in a 69’ Cuda? “D” being a 68 build date code. Also does anyone know how to decode a 69’ 727 tranny?

My next question I fabricated two brackets like the one pictured can I make these work with the two biscuit style mounts?

The number that is supposed to appear on the small machine surface is nonexistent on the engine for some strange reason so my only point of reference is the one located on the front of the engine near the head.

So can I tell if the engine is the original 340 for this VIN based on the engine code (not casting) I am pretty curious but not to sure of the decoding process. DW340P is the first half which I will assume is location, engine size and premium fuel the rest is a jumble of numbers that are not...

I was lucky enough to have the data plate intact in the engine compartment when I purchased the cuda (roughly 2 months ago) need to do some research on that as well

Actually looking at the exhaust manifolds I believe they’re the same as the 340’s not sure if they were swapped or if that’s just the way they’re supposed to be. Ohh before I forget if my cuda was a factory 1969 340 car does that make it a formula s or am I mistaken?? I’m still learning about...
