Just got back from PRI, new info on the Trick Flow Small Block Heads!

Hey All: Was beginning to suppose these were vaporware, but it looks like TFS has made some changes to these since they were announced at SEMA last year. These heads are for shaft rockers, but will work with Magnum engines (!!) with the use of a particular Harland Sharp part number rocker...

Who races w/OE Magnum short blocks

There's a roller wheel at the tip, and there are roller bearings in the fulcrum as well. Stock stuff, no rollers anywhere.

Who races w/OE Magnum short blocks

Mine are stock. The ones I had in my Dart were stock as well, right up until I put Harland Sharps on and it made no difference.

My advice would be to get the EQ heads with some good valve springs. They're reasonably cheap, offer a substantial horsepower benefit over stockers, don't crack, and if you pick the right part number you can bolt up LA intakes to them, which are significantly better than the intakes available...

    [SOLD] 1973 Gold Duster

Those might be the craziest shackles i've seen since the 80s? Are the leaf spring mounts ok? What's left in the interior? I would like to see a pic or two of the rear quarter damage. Does the trunk close? What town are you in/near? Trying to get a Google estimate on travel time. Anyone have a...

Stock magnum heads cam roll call!

That is poorly worded and should be changed. The shop car didn't have stock magnum heads. The heads I just measured are .575 total on exhaust. You won't have their recommended .060 clearance with your cam. I think that spec is waaaaaay safe personally, and you should be fine, but its your motor....

Who races w/OE Magnum short blocks

On the stock heads I am working on, the exhaust is a measly .575 total clearance (they say it varies). Intake side is better but still crap. That means no greater than a .515 in theory. In practice, the Magnums lose a bit of lift due to the goofy pushrod angle, say 3%, but its best not to gamble...

Stock magnum heads cam roll call!

Hey All: What cam are you running in a stock headed Magnum? Do you like it? Did you check stuff like retainer to guide clearance or did you just jam it in there? Curious to see what develops....

    LA 360 or Magnum 5.9

The stock heads won't make the same horsepower, and they have issues with cracking. The thing about the EQs is they aren't that expensive. By the time you spend any money on the stock junk at all, you might as well have bought them. I believe a set from hughes with decent springs is like...

    LA 360 or Magnum 5.9

Make sure you get the stock flexplate with the magnum. Converter issue solved. I made the hp numbers you are looking for at the tires with a small hydraulic roller cam and EQ Magnum heads. Thats over 400 on motor. Didn't touch the shortblock since it was drug home from the junkers. Steve

    Edelbrock LD4B

That doesn't surprise me. The performer has some narrow twisty runners compared to the 4B. From the carb height, I would guess they are shorter as well. Not sure why Edelbrock went to an inferior design intake, other than maybe it fits more cars easier?

    Edelbrock LD4B

toolmanmike: I have a restalled stock converter. I am sure a looser one would be better, but I drive the car a lot when the weather is nice and its fine. Mattax: Yes, that 273 intake looks like a 4 bbl version of the factory intake that came on this 318. Obviously, this 318 single plane was not...

    Edelbrock LD4B

I chose the Summit 6901 for the wide LSA to keep what meager compression the 318 had and for the nitrous. Its also got a very fast (I think 34* ABDC) exhaust valve closing event to help preserve dynamic compression. Somehow, it sounds pretty badass also!

    Edelbrock LD4B

I just bought an LD4B off ebay for the slightly unreasonable price of $250 shipped. Going to dyno test this with the Action Plus back to back on my 318 Satellite when the weather gets a little warmer.

Nitrous on a 318.....how much will it take

Thanks everyone. The Satellite ran 12.75 on a 150 shot, which exceeded my expectations radically. Didn't have any trouble at all getting it stopped. Had 275/60 Mt ET Pro radials on it and didn't have any problem hooking it. You can check it out at the 5:57 mark in this video. Had a blast on...

    Edelbrock LD4B

What makes you say that? I suppose everyone else's stock longblock 100,000 mile 318 makes peak power at 6500 RPM? Never mentioned running the Performer intake. You'd have to run an adapter to run the holley on the 73 intake, right?
  27. LXguy

    Edelbrock LD4B

MPH is a much better show of horsepower, but: If its a mild combo, .1 isn't that bad. Obviously the better part is only going to be able to improve power if the original part is a restriction. Alternatively, if there's a restriction somewhere else (carb or heads for example) putting on a better...

    Edelbrock LD4B

What car was this? 2900 lbs? Why did they turn the inertia off? Do you have a dyno graph? What's the combination being tested here?
  30. LXguy

    Edelbrock LD4B

As you're going for consistency this is nearly impossibly to do. As soon as you WOT it, it is going where the converter flashes anyway. Doing it twice for a back to back comparison consistently would be unlikely. How long are you at WOT under 3500 RPM anyway? I've got a Mustang dyno and I can...
