LOOK!!! What not to give your son at 17

I don't think giving a high HP car to a teen is a big deal- it's teaching them to respect what a car can do to you, One of my classmates in high school was killed in a subaru when he lost control of it at 105mph, it had a 4 cyl boxer with 100hp at best- it looked similar to the Demon in the...

5 or 6 bolts flywheel to crank?

Did it line up before? The only time I ran into this is when trying to swap /6 and small block parts. I'd try to find out which part is wrong first and I wouldn't attach a flywheel with 5 bolts, see if you can scratch up a v8 flexplate and compare it to the crank and flywheel to see whats...

    possible 318 build

If the shortblock and 596 heads are actually in decent shape use them, I've thrown together similar stuff and it has ran fine. The key to making it work is a 3.91-4.30 gear and higher stall converter, you don't need a $800 PTC 9.5" for this setup, a daaco 2500 stall will work fine, they're...

273 to 318 engine swap info please!!

It will most likely have the large hub, I'm using a 9.5" flywheel from a 67 273 on a '85 318 crank, I had the seller measure it before I paid because I thought 68 was the first year for the larger hub for the flywheel/flexplate.

    4 speed pedal rebuild

It's a 67+ 383/340 specific setup, the /6,273,318 cars used plastic bushings, the set I'm running came out of a '70 340 swinger.

    318 low budget build

How fast do you want to go? What cam/converter and gear do you have now? I wouldn't run 302's if you want performance- I've ran 302's and 587 360 heads- the 587's run much better when the combo is right, both heads used 1.88/1.60's with the bowls ported and the runners cleaned up. My old 73...

    4 speed pedal rebuild

The thing in the green circle is the bumper for the clutch pedal, it goes in the big bracket everything bolts to. Do you have bushings or bearings in the pedals? I got the bearings out of mine with a press, I had a friend with a lathe make a pin just smaller than the tube to press the bearings...

    Switching to 4.30 gears

It should be fine, one of my friends ran 4.30's in his 451 Dart with 275/60 radials for years and they worked good in the 1/4 when he had a hyd cam, when he switched to a solid he went to a 29x11.5 to keep the RPM's in range, it was running 98-99mph in the 1/8, 117-118mph in the 1/4.

What other rear ends will work with my Dart?

They are good rears but hard to come by, I've seen 2-3 in the past 15 years that weren't in someones driver, I ran 8.75's until about 3 years ago when I started looking around for a budget friendly alternative.

What other rear ends will work with my Dart?

Most of the early V8 fords had 8" rears, the 9" that came in them stock wasn't great either, it had small axle bearings, 28 spline axles, etc. The 8" is decent, I knew of someone running one in a valiant and it worked fine, if you're putting out any power run a 3.70 or taller gear, 4.10's...

What other rear ends will work with my Dart?

I'm not sure if rangers ever got rear disc brakes, I cut down a 97 explorer rear for my car, after the swap I measured the 8.8 in my Dad's 98 Ranger and it's about 57.5" wide and the center isn't offset. The hard part about getting a ranger rear is finding a 4.0 5 speed truck with a good gear...

What other rear ends will work with my Dart?

I went this way with the 8.8 in my Dart, if you can find a ranger 8.8 it's the right width already and the center isn't offset. On another note if you have a mild motor, 300hp or less on street radials I bet a 7.5" would hold up fine - they're much stronger than 7.25 chrysler rears, V8...

.509 Purple cam in my want to buy 1971 Scamp

I would switch to a smaller cam like the MP 268/272 or the comp XE268, both have worked well for me in small block A bodys with street gears. If it has a decent converter already the MP 280/.474 will run good in it.

Top speed of an SB stroker

Cruise speed or trap speed? 105-110mph is about it for cruising with good stock suspension, I've been to 125-130mph a few times but thats only for 4-5 sec at most. You could probably go 115-120 with that cam and 3.54's.

Fixing holes in the floor without buying floor pans

It's quicker to replace the front pans than to try to patch it up, on the rear wheelhouse I would clean it up and trim back to clean metal then make a patch with 20ga steel and weld it in. When I put the front pans in my Dart I cut around the perimeter with a sawzall then ripped them out by...

I usually hammer the hole flat from the inside out and weld it shut, it's a pretty easy fix.

Vintage race engine (273 vs. Slant 6)

If you're competing against other V8 cars of the era I would build the /6, if it's a HP/LB class I would build a hot 273, I would hate to spend the $ on a 273 if you have to run against a 327 chevy II or a 289 falcon.

    2000 Durango 5.9 R/T Rear end

It's an 8 3/8"- pretty much the same as an 8 1/4" so you can get one that will bolt right in out of a 73-76 A body. The rear in the R/T is built pretty crappy, I switched to a 9 1/4 from a regular 5.9 4x4 Durango in my wifes old R/T when the pinion bearing started making noise.

    Best 904 core?

At that level a good rebuilt 904 is fine, if you want a 999 get a non lockup to start with, you're going to need the input shaft and pump from one anyways so it's cheaper to start with the right one first. My buddys 340 Dart ran 10.8's for 3 years with a 4 clutch 904 and 7260 U joints, when he...

    a833 with 904 yoke??

My 68 Dart has the small output 833- it is weaker than the one with the 30 spline output but its ok for street small blocks on street tires, I tried drag radials and managed to split the slip yoke. My car is an early 68 car, it has a bunch of 67 style parts on it and was a 273-2 833 car.

    15x3.5 on the street?!?

165's on 3.5's will be fine for what you're doing, I went from 215/60's on cop wheels to 165's on 3.5's and it still stops fine, and drives fine in the rain- etc, it does push more thru the corners but I expected that.

What do i call these drums?

They look like OE A body drums, they're worth about $0.08 a lb in scrap, I got rid of 5-6 sets a few months ago when I had to downsize my storage.

    removing a/c from 74 valiant

Heres a pics of it on the car, the alternator bolts to the head on non-A/C cars.

    removing a/c from 74 valiant

You need the alternator bracket, water pump pulley and crank pulley from a non-A/C small block, if you have power steering get a crank pulley with 2-3 grooves.

    Some 4.56 gear questions!!

If you can't get a gear new try looking in 70's model RV's at the junkyard, many came with 4.56's/4.88's, most of the 42-43 tooth gears I have came out of those, I found a class A with an industrial 440 and 5.13's but it had a speed reducing box inline on the cable so that probably wouldn't work...

    68 Dart 2dr Sedan $5000obo

The interior shot is older, it still had a 904 and the old 318 at that point. I'm still in Florida but moved from the Brooksville area back to Tampa, I had an acre and a garage there, now I have 1/4 acre and no covered parking or work area...

68 Dart 170 2dr sedan, 318, 833 4 speed, 8.8 ford rear 4.10's 4 wheel discs, weld draglites, new 2.5" exhaust, engine and clutch have 2,000 miles. Body has had the floorpans, spare tire well and lower 1/4's replaced, it needs bodywork, paint and interior to be nice but it's a fun car as is, I...

    What did I break?

Try shooting some oil in the cyl, if it still has 100psi the valves are ok, last one I had was at 15-20psi and the rest were 155-160. Just to make sure throw a vac gauge on the manifold, if it's an intake valve the needle will be all over the place, the exhaust valve is easy to check with open...

Is the m1 faster then the air gap

I would try a victor 340, it seems to work better than the M1 single plane on 360s, I would try a bigger carb too, at least an 850, my buddys 340 running similar ET's liked the HP series 1000cfm 4150, it layed down with a dominator but I think the adaptor gave the manifold too much plenum volume.
