    62 Valiant temperature control cable

My heater temp control cable snapped right at the control lever. Does anyone have one? What is involved in replacing it? Is this a simple fix? How does it attach at either end? Is the cable the same part used in the 1960-1962 Valiants and Lancers? Any help appreciated...-Dan

AM Radio reception fades in in and out

Thanks guys, My microvoltaic head is now clearer. I do have the original, very long, telescopic antenna, although I don't keep it fully extended as to not hit the top of my garage door. I like the theory of a failing capacitor, but couldn't a tube react the same way? My radio is not solid...

AM Radio reception fades in in and out

Thanks for your response, Pauly. I would tend to agree that signal strength from the transmitter may have something to do with the receiver processing the signal, but I have a feeling that one of the amplifier tubes may be malfunctioning. I reckon I'll have to go to work and try to find a shop...

AM Radio reception fades in in and out

My '62 Valiant stock AM radio works, but reception fades out and then comes back (very loud) and then fades again recurrently. I have adjusted the antenna gain but the problem persists. Would a weak tube cause this problem? If so, which one would be the likely culprit?

    Accelerator Pedal keeper spring?

I'm refinishing my floors and installing a new carpet. I loosened the accelerator pedal at the base, removing the bolt and two nuts at the bottom. I noticed a funky little spring/keeper which slid down the connecting rod. I can't seem to figure out how and where to re-install it. Any help...

How About A Quit Smoking Challange

Hang in there, guys! I quit 22yrs ago, and I'm sure its no different now as then. One thing I did was to carry around a container of Altoids mints. Every time I wanted a smoke, I would pop a mint and go about my business. When you get to the point that you don't need the sugar hit, you may...

    Wiper pivot seal fabrication?

All you '63 and later guys and gals are lucky. When your pivot seals spring a leak, all ya gotta do is call Schumacher for a rebuild kit. (And then bust your knuckles installing it.) Problem: Can't find anyone with the old (round, according to the manual's picture) seals which would probably...

    New speaker for old radio?

Took Duster and Newbie's advice and got an Autozone 6x9 speaker for 16.99. Took out the old speaker, and to my delight, the new one was a bit thinner than the original! Yay! It also has that original 1962 "super mono" sound. The new speaker mounted in the metal frame perfectly--even used the...

    New speaker for old radio?

I took apart my stock mopar radio today. (The manual says it's a model 203 but on the bottom of the case it was marked 103.) I used tuner cleaner and now the radio is like new. However, the 47yr old speaker is tired and I would like to replace it without going crazy. I traced the size on a...

    Disc or Paper

I have two factory manuals. I have an old greasy one for the garage and for when I go to get something serviced--for the benefit of the mechanic who was born 20yrs after my car was, and one super clean one for use in the house for reading/reference. Wait long enough on Ebay and one will pop up...

    Pet Peeve

So, does this mean you are "a junk" professor? Do you lead field trips to the wrecking yard and teach would-be mechanics to find and remove correct parts from the donor candidates so they can excel at "Advanced Competition"? Yep! ya sure can get a bit confused with just a few scrambled...

    Two questions (170 engine)

Well, we had a pretty nice day for a test drive today... I believe the noise is now almost definitely a sympathetic resonance within the exhaust system, It will still appear at approx. 45mph and will dissipate when throttle is let-off. I believe the noise occurs at a specific range of rpm. I...

    Two questions (170 engine)

Well, I went to the "carb guy" today, and he said the float level should be OK since I dont get any hard starting when the engine is hot (which I don't, as the engine starts immediately without depressing the gas pedal at all). I'll keep looking for more clues and keep ya'll posted -Dan

    Two questions (170 engine)

Hey Waggin and Tyler, You may be on to something..I am getting some fuel staining along the side of the carb at and below the air horn gasket...the carb was rebuilt less than 1,000 miles ago by a reputable carb shop. Maybe I'll run back down there and see what they think. -BTW, what type of...

    Two questions (170 engine)

Thanks, for your help, guys. Looks like maybe we'll have a couple of nice, dry days ahead. I'll do some experimenting and see what happens. As for that droning sound, it sounds and feels like it occurs foreward at the exhaust manifold or the junction to the exhaust pipe. The manifold and pipes...

    Two questions (170 engine)

My bone stock 170 cu. in engine runs great and quiet up to approximately 45mph, and then has a louder resonating sound beyond that speed. By letting off the gas slightly and just feathering the throttle, the noise settles to a more tolerable roar... Is this a sign of an exhaust restriction...

    Calif. to Maryland transporter ?

    Hi all from WA state

My name is Dan (not Val) and I am happy to have found you. I have had an interest in Mopars for quite awhile, I guess ever since my Dad brought home a new 61 Lancer! I have owned a 66 Coronet, 68,70, and 72 Chargers, and a 75 Cordoba, but I always had a soft spot for that little Lancer...
