I Chose the 383 Big Block

Now your story begins. I strongly suggest you replace the timing chain.

I Chose the 383 Big Block

383s are great engines! About 60 years ago, I got a used 383 with an 883 trans to put it in a 63 dart, after I had worn out the /6. The 383/883 had been sitting out and wouldn't turn over. I pulled the heads, and the rings were rusted to the cylinder walls. Soaking did not get them free. I...

    Parts Cache Value…

I agree, the key is having a place to store it.

Help me decide on a floor jack

I've had/used a lot of jacks. Best one ever is the low profile steel jack from Costco. Low profile, double cylinder, very strong.

    Gets hot and stalls out

Vapor lock would be my first guess, too. Ii have had that exact same problem from the fuel line running too close to the header tubes. I wrapped that section of line with thermal insulation tape and problem went away.

    Factory ammeter

Thanks for the great info! I'm going to read your past electrical posts, and use them as resources.

    Factory ammeter

Thanks for this info! That sounds like a very clever solution, but I want to make sure that I understand it correctly. Did you put a high current diode in a wire path directly from your alternator to your battery, so the current would bypass the dash when the alternator voltage got to a certain...

    Factory ammeter

Bingo! It's the higher amp alternators that fry the terminals. The original alternators were 35A, and the remans put out 55A minimum. So unless you are running your original alternator your terminals are probably overworked. I know someone who replaced his alternator with a reman, and a short...

What's the best way to find a dead cylinder?

As Ricks79Duster340 said, the easiest way is to start diagnosing your problem is to measure the temperature at each exhaust manifold port. The IR guns are $25 at Harbor freight and they work great.

[SOLD] Mopar 67-72 Kelsey hayes 4 piston calipers

Excellent post! Hubs (aka knuckle or spindle) are scarce. The only hub that works with the OE type K-H calipers are the OE disc brake hubs. They are hard to find.

    removing spider gears 7.25

In my experience, the quickest way to remove 7 1/4" spider gears is to begin a burnout on concrete and move forward onto asphalt. The spider gear teeth will come shooting out of the cover plate.

    1968 Barracuda fastback..formula S 383/4spd..Restore or not?

Do it! Key thing is that you can do all the metal work. That is the money pit.

    Borgeson Power Steering Thoughts....

Just so you don't waste time wondering what the heck is going on (like I did, until I called Borgeson). I begin rough alignments by making the pitman arm angle parallel to the frame rail when the steering box is adjusted to be on center. But, the Borgeson unit bolts in at a 4.5 degree angle, so...

Power Disc Brakes not working on hard stop?

Just a data point. I have had a 67 barracuda 360 4-speed with manual stock KH discs and stock 8 3/4 drums. Stopping was good from all speeds. Question, because I don't know the answer: If you disconnect and plug the vacuum line, can the brakes be worse than manual? If not, you could try that...

Power Disc Brakes not working on hard stop?

Some ideas: 1) The original KH disc brake pistons can seize in the cylinders as a result of moisture. You might try putting the car on jack stands and seeing if any wheel can be turned by hand or by breaker bar when the pedal is applied. 2) You mentioned a manual proportioning valve. Is that...

    GM Alternators

Agree with you 110%, and I can't resist poking in my usual warning that adds to yours. More charging current through the firewall connector often melts the connector as a result of contact resistance heat. The original alternators were 35A. Plus, most people add higher current loads such as...

Reasonably priced BIG BRAKE alternative that fits in a 15” wheel

I apologize if I missed it, but did you reply to the questions about which Mopar knuckle you used? Also, where did you source them?

Some stuff from the production line...

Nice! Thanks for the great information!. A few years ago, I looked into 3D printing and found 3 problems: 1) Cost of adequate precision scanning devices 2) insufficient resolution (surface smoothness) of the plastic printers, and 3) cost and surface smoothness of metal printers. Which machines...

    E-Coat on new fenders

Some manufacturer's e-coat is good, but some are garbage. AMD has always been good. Body shop rule of thumb is to rub a spot with acetone on a rag. If none comes off on the rag, it should be left on, then scuff, clean, prime.

    Alternator upgrade ??s

I agree. Read MADD info. Original bulkhead connector contacts were not designed to carry high currents, even when clean. Original equipment alternators were rated at 35A.

Advice: Solid Roller or Hydraulic Roller for street car

Agree. For a stock stroke, 91 octane 318 (your profile says your location is California), you don't need aluminum heads, but they do look nice. If you are in southern California, PM me. There are quite a few 67-69 barracuda people around here.

small block LA 600 Hp set up

100% absolutely agree! That way the heads will not be the limiting factor. I have read and seen that for a small block normally aspirated engine, the maximum HP will be about 2X the intake flow at 0.500. There have been some exceptions, of course, but it's a good rule of thumb.

Front suspension set up and wheel alignment

One thing that surprised me the first time I put in a Borgeson box, is that after setting the box to center, the pitman geometry was not parallel to the frame. I called Borgeson, and the guy said "Yes, that's because the Mopar box is adapted from the GM box, and to make it fit there is about a 5...
