    Matching Wheel Wells?

I like the idea of radiused rear wheel openings on '64 Valiants like mine. It would correct the only really awkward part of the styling, to my eye. The wagons had it. I'm guessing it was to reduce the jacking height needed, more of an issue on a loaded-up wagon. (Not mine, darn it.) (Not...

    flip top gas cap/ 65 dart ?

I saw photos of one, decades ago, that had been "frenched" in the quarter. Basically the guy built a floored cylinder just deep enough to let just the crown of the cap protrude slightly. It was notched for the hinge and the latch.

    Another "what are these" post.

Not sure. May I make a suggestion for questions like this? When taking a photo of items to be identified, put something in for scale - a ruler, yardstick, etc. Also, indicate the material.

    Build dates

My '64 Valiant has an SO date on the fender tag of 0830, and the door panels are dated August 20th, 1964. Pretty late in the cycle!

I went with an aluminum radiator. The top tank of my original had multiple cracks in the brass. Each repair just brought out another problem.

    My 63 Valiant

Any other symptoms? How does it stop running? Just idling, or is there some driving during those 15 minutes? Loss of power, more loss of power, then dies? Or just flat dies? Back to basics. One possibility is trash in the fuel, clogging the filter. After choking the engine out, it may...

64 Dart GT Slant 6 Electric Fan Conversion

On my '64 Valiant, I use a single 10" pusher fan in front of the condenser - there is very little room between the water pump pulley and the aluminum radiator (and not all that much between the condenser and the grill!). Any fan on the engine side of the radiator will have to be offset, or...

Do Early A-Bodies Truly Have Lower Profile Hoods?

Minor point, Slant Six strokes were 3 1/8" for 170's, 3.64" for 198's, and 4 1/8" for 225's. The 170 "G" block was about an inch shorter in height than the 198/225 "RG" block.

1965 Barracuda Formula S - New Weekend Cruiser

Ought to be a fun car! Looks like a disk brake master cylinder. That, and the 8.25 rear make me ask if it has disk brakes up front and the 4.5" bolt pattern at both ends. That opens up some good opportunities for a cruiser and a user.

Another way of looking at it: a) Stick to the Slant Six and have something different, and experience a different set of challenges and rewards. b) Swap to a V8 like everyone else, and enter the path more heavily travelled. Lots of benefits there. Don't get me wrong: I like V8 A-bodies -...

    64 Dart A/C

On my '64 Valiant, I used an R134a kit from Southern Rods, intended for early Mustangs. The under-dash unit looks a lot like the period aftermarket Veep II unit that was in the car when I got it, and I think it fits right in with the round gauges, knobs, and radio buttons. The old ARA Veep...

list your most moronic thing you've seen done to a car

We had a Chevy LUV for a while. Someone had removed the fuse panel. There were no fuses in the vehicle at all. Leads were taped together with masking tape or duct tape. The alternator lead wire was just stuffed into place, with no lug. In spite of that abuse, it became a very reliable...
