    Sometimes Older is Better

Back then a lot of guys were tearing the motor mount rubbers from motors with too much torque & slamming gears. When the engine would twist the fans sometimes would hit the shrouds. Factory fans might chip up those shrouds but the fiberglass ones tended to disintegrate.

A warning about Evans Waterless Coolants

The factory ground cables were still in the stock locations. I wasn't 1st owner of the vehicles but they'd been owned by mechanics that spoke of meticulous maintenance including the oil & coolant changes. I don't know if 50/50 premixed coolants were available back then but I always mixed my...

A warning about Evans Waterless Coolants

The motors I spoke of were big block Chryslers with 60-70,000ish miles on them that were being freshened up. Cylinder wear, but not substantial. I was mainly looking to upgrade performance at the time.

A warning about Evans Waterless Coolants

Phreakish, I've rebuilt a few motors that had had their antifreeze changed regularly and there was quite a bit of crud in the water passages. - Enough to have probably been a concern. I doubt that distilled water was mixed with the coolant though. Are you saying that the buildup was due to...

A warning about Evans Waterless Coolants

From reading this thread I've come to a few conclusions. STRAIGHT WATER 1) Water seems to be the best coolant for heat transfer but the low boiling point negates it's ability to do the job without turning to steam around the combustion chambers in many (if not all) applications. It is...

    Sometimes Older is Better

Back in the mid 70s I ran one of those fiberglass fans on my Roadrunner and had good luck with it. Ever since I heard about the potential risk of them coming apart I didn't consider using one again. - And I haven't seen one being used in the past 30 years. I wouldn't mind having one if I was...

A warning about Evans Waterless Coolants

I understand that a temperature that is too high or a combustion chamber with hot spots will have issues with preignition. I can understand the theory that fuel vaporization may be enhanced as temperature goes up. So is there such a thing as a theoretical 'approximate' ideal operating...

A warning about Evans Waterless Coolants

I am glad you posted the thread. If we do start to see a change in performance a few years down the road I'll definitely want to check & see if a buildup of deposits is happening. Here's the link to the Leno Garage video we'd watched years ago.

A warning about Evans Waterless Coolants

I'd never heard anything about that until this thread. I can't say from experience that it wouldn't happen but I do know that the lack of sludgy buildup was one of the other benefits that Evans claims. It is not supposed to break down and is supposed to last (without needing changing) for the...

A warning about Evans Waterless Coolants

Like any new product a person should be skeptical about whether or not it will perform as advertised. I'm running it in my '72 Duster 440 drag car because I'd been pulled off the starting line at the strip when my cooling system started to boil over. The Evans will not. My son first heard...

Best coolant for our 60-70's Mopars?

I've been running Evans in my Barracuda (408) and my Duster (440). From personal experience I can say that the temperature does rub warmer. For me it's about 10'. I have been able to open the cap on the radiator no matter what my gauge shows without worrying about getting sprayed with boiling...

I overpaid. I see that you can buy it right now on eBay for $43.80 with free shipping. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Evans-NPG-C-Waterless-High-Performance-Coolant-1-Gallon-/381181129031?hash=item58c02a7147&vxp=mtr

Best coolant for our 60-70's Mopars?

If you watch all of that Jay Leno video that I posted you'll see that it can still be saved after you've added water. It would be a b#tch to do though because you have to boil out the water.

Best coolant for our 60-70's Mopars?

I've got a couple of cases of EVANS waterless sitting in the garage. My plan is to put it in each one of our cars. Unlike regular antifreeze that is supposed to be changed every few years, the EVANS is supposed to never need changing. It isn't supposed to break down and fill the bottom of the...

    Heater Core replacement - '67 A Body

I purchased one of these off of eBay from AUTOZONE. It fit perfectly for me on my '67 Barracuda and was $37.99 with free shipping. http://www.ebay.com/itm/HVAC-Heater-Core-SPECTRA-PREMIUM-94503-/271791360437?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f480709b5&vxp=mtr

Weird cooling on my 84 D150

I've taken a few water pumps out of their housings before and found bad impellers. Either loose on the shaft or impellers nearly worn down to nothing. It may not be the most likely cause but I wouldn't rule it out.

Weird cooling on my 84 D150

I've had heater hoses freeze up on me when in a situation similar to yours and I had to temporarily get by with added water. Even though I added antifreeze later to get back to having a correct mix, it took weeks before a proper thaw allowed the new coolant through the heater hoses. That would...

    340 overheating problem

The EVANS ran me $42.50 @ gallon and you DO NOT mix it with water. An added benefit it has is that it does not break down and need to be changed every few years. - Nor does it cause corrosion like conventional antifreeze/water mixtures. It's supposed to last the life of the vehicle without...

    340 overheating problem

What are you running for engine coolant? I started using EVANS waterless coolant because it will not boil. Once water turns to steam the temp shoots up. The EVANS is not advertised as something to make an engine run cooler but theoretically it should be less likely to climb as high.

    340 overheating problem

I used my existing sending unit originally but after the gauge read inaccurately I did replace it with a new one. Either way my gauge maxed out. It (the original one) seemed to have read fine before I installed the new motor though.

    340 overheating problem

It seems like there's been a rash of threads that I've been reading lately about temperature gauges that aren't accurate. I know that I've got a problem with my own. My factory gauge reads hot but I'm running a Mr. Gasket radiator cap that has a built in thermometer and it reads 180'. I used...

Hose covers / clean up underhood ideas?

There was a size included in the kit that fit vacuum lines too but it didn't have the end covers for that smallest size. If you look at the right side of the first pic you can see a portion of the vacuum line that runs to my performance meter is covered.

Hose covers / clean up underhood ideas?

I know that these probably aren't the highest quality way to go, but I tried them on my '67. Summit lists the kit for $36.97. I bought mine for $20 at a swap meet. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-350000/overview/
