I glued the carpet to the console first, marked where the front screws go, then installed the screws once the console was mounted (1" screws, no washers). Since my carpet is brown, I got some brown model paint and painted the screw heads so they just disappear.

Ah ok... I misunderstood. I thought you had painted the underhood and were going to paint the car that color.

Well, I had all the chrome pieces inside done...dash bezel, radio bezel, glove box bezel, arm rest bases, and a pillar moldings....redid all the lettering and polished the lenses, and this was about 4years ago, it was around $600 US. He's not fast or cheap, but they are gorgeous!

Steve...you mean how much for the paint?...about $20 per can...not cheap, but it is custom mixed as they don't offer this color OTC.

Console body already has texture on it...I just had my local paint shop mix up my color and put in spray cans...turned out OK, I think...

I did the same as Steve...mine looks identical, except my console is copper. BTW, Steve, yours looks awesome!

Thats the way I did mine...starting with the "linkage pole"(the post that goes through the floor) make sure the shifter and linkage are positioned properly...attach the brackets to the console itself, position and tack-weld (remove console carpetting)....then the other stuff falls into place...

Yessir....they didn't look bad before, but since I did the rest of the interior, these would look out of place if I didn't. AFAIK, they were only chrome for '67(?)...I think they went interior color for '68/'69, but I could be wrong.......Dash bezels.....
