My 273 turned out to be a 318...what did I buy?

This! Initially when swapping to a Magnum I ran an electric fuel pump. After having one quit on me I bought the cam snout extension and went back to a mechanical pump. Another reason was to get rid of the pump noise...my Autistic grandson wouldn't ride in it because of the noise. I never...

My 273 turned out to be a 318...what did I buy?

Pic with headers and a 5.9 Magnum. I switched to Taylor wires since but I'm not near the car to get a current pic.

My 273 turned out to be a 318...what did I buy?

Yes, Doug's. The driver's side was a blast installing, lol. I had to ding a little to clear the cap on the coupler. Definitely a tight fit. I've thought about installing a heat shield but haven't yet. I also had to ding a little for the driver's side torsion bar. I bought the uncoated...

My 273 turned out to be a 318...what did I buy?

@Professor Fate. is right on the money with a swap to a dual pot master cylinder. Highly recommend doing it for safety sake. Here's when I did mine in a 66. I now have headers so there is a little more space.

    Starter Removal

I was planning to get the terminal kit, but never got around to it. I did what @jos51700 does.

    Starter Removal

You could try drilling out the small terminal, but that's not easily done. I would replace the terminal with one that fits on the stud. Not sure if you have the equipment, but you can probably pick up kit with a wire stripper, and some different size terminals. Also helps to have shrink tubing...

    2001 5.9 Magnum questions

Really great advice above so I won't repeat it. You'll be very happy with a 5.9. Like @TrailBeast I kept the v-belt front end for the old school look. I went with Edelbrock 2.02 heads, Air Gap intake and 650 AVS carb. Also sent my cam to Oregon Cam Grinders for a regrind. 5.9's are...

    Lookin for help

A loud tick could be an exhaust leak. I've used an 18" long socket extension holding one end towards my ear and the other end on different places of the exhaust manifolds to narrow down where a noise is coming from. Keep far away from the fan and the battery!!!!

    Demand and Supply

I started doing all my own tire rotations using a torque wrench years ago after I had to remove a wheel a shop put on. They completely overtightened the lug nuts.

360 Magnum Daily Driver (but fun too!!!)

Are you making any changes to the bottom end? I did a 2001 5.9 swap in my 66 Barracuda. I tore it down and had a machine shop hot tank, hone bores, new, main, rod, and cam bearings. Sent my cam to Oregon Cam Grinding for a regrind. Put it together with Edelbrock 2.02 heads with Comp...

    La vs Magnum oil pans

Yes, the truck pans are different. Edit: duh, yeah gotta be a 360 pan. I did a really poor job at keeping records when I did my swap. Oh, you also have the choice to keep the serpentine belt setup or put your 318 front end and keep the V-belts. I used the front end off my 273. Oh, and...

    340 with edelbrock heads overheating

That looks like an Oregon Cam Grinding sheet. They are very good, shouldn't have any concerns about them. Not that they couldn't make a mistake but not likely. Sounds like you did everything to get air out of the system. Can't remember how many miles are on the engine but rings could be...

    Aftermarket gauges

If you can post a picture if your oil pressure gauge and the "wiring" that came with it we can help. They come in two ways: with an electrical and mechanical. Electrical sends a signal to the gauge through a wire attached to the sending unit on top of the block beside the distributor (see...

Do I must remove the drivers side header?

Not sure about those headers. On my 66 Barracuda with headers and a mini starter, I'm able to get the starter out by turning the steering to one side or the other to open up a hole in the steering components.

    LA360 compression

I remember great quotes like: "Nice tie, Ty" "This is your saliva line" "What's a saliva line?" (She licks his palm) "it shows how hot I can get you" Carl is the best though! "Cannonball, Cannonball" "you can play 36 holes on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the...

Cant tell if oil is mixing with my coolant.

Years ago I took my 1966, 273 Barracuda to a show during cold weather. It wasn't too far from the house. Next day I checked the oil and the dipstick was milky. Warmed it up and changed oil and filter. Never had another problem. Hopefully moisture is what you're seeing. Now, the coolant...

    273, or 318?

Like @rumblefish360. said @Professor Fate brought up a great point. The crankshaft pocket is smaller on the 67. Machine shop should be able to handle it though. I would keep the 273 since it's numbers matching. I had a 273 Commando in my Barracuda and swapped in a 5.9. I miss the 273...
