Dude, that is Slick!!! I bookmarked this post! A/C is on my bucket list. What heater/AC box did you use?

    Cooling problems

Could the fan be too close to the radiator? You're right, the bay is full, lol. Gotta see a picture of the entire car please!

A Gasket or what heater core at firewall

Here's a picture of my 66 heater box. The bracket helps keep them centered as well as the plate with a mounting hole in the center. By the way, it was probably the first time taken apart in 55 years!!

A Gasket or what heater core at firewall

Pretty sure one came in a full kit from DMT, Detroit Muscle Technologies. If you can't find one on his website, email the owner Jim. He'll reply back and let you know if he has it. Detroit Muscle Technologies, LLC Mopar & AMC muscle car restoration gaskets

What year and model are you working on? What distributor did you buy?

Where to get heater core and blower motor?

Yeah, no way for us to know for sure...or the OP either. If it's copper, I say keep it!!

Where to get heater core and blower motor?

That's why I would take your original to a shop and have them go through it.

Where to get heater core and blower motor?

You could take your heater core to a radiator shop to have it "refreshed " and take your blower motor to an electric shop for a "rebuild." It's getting harder and harder to find new parts for our old gals.

    You can’t trust thermostat ratings

I don't think I'd worry about 170*. But if it's going to be one of things that you think about every time you drive, make time to swap it out. I learned to bite the bullet on those nagging little things that take up my valuable gray matter, lol. I wonder if the laser thermometer could be...

1968 Barracuda Cooling System Upgrade Questions

Like @autoxcuda said, best to go with the factory stuff. Before buying a fan and fan clutch, pull the radiator and have an old school radiator shop flow test it and pressure test it. If it doesn't flow well, they may be able to Rod it out. If that's good, source the parts in the last post...

    Water pump replacement

That's a great idea. Which reminds me. Take your time getting the bolts out. Use PB Blaster. I would start using it a couple of days early and apply it regularly. Those darn things going into the water jacket can be a PITA.

    Water pump replacement

Yes, 4 bolts facing the radiator. It's a tight fit, but you can get them out without pulling the radiator. If you have a shroud, it may have to come off to get the fan out. Tip: make a "holder" for the water pump bolts that will hold them in the exact position you remove them. That way...

Things You Can Do To Cool It Down

The trick is to make up song play list for your car stereo with the following songs: Cold As Ice She's So Cold Freeze Frame Ice Ice Baby Funky Cold Medina Stone Cold Cold Sweat The louder you crank it, the colder it gets.

    Car getting real hot....

@MAPS , try this. Have the car idling in Park with the hood down and hold up a paper towel to the front of the grill. See if it gets sucked into the grill. Going down the road you don't even need a fan as the air is rushing through the radiator. It's slow driving and stopped that you need...

My car keeps over heating when I’m driving

@Dana67Dart shows nearly 5" from the inside of his radiator to the pulley. Do you have the same? Not to the fan, but to the radiator. Like others, I think if you use a shroud with either an electric or mechanical fan, you should be good.

    Heater Core

When my a/c and a/c max push buttons are selected, the Air blows out the large rectangle hole on the left where the vent would connect. Mine is no longer there.

    Heater Core

That's weird. Something may be jammed. Can you remove the defrost tubes and feel inside for the door?
  18. 66fyssh

    Heater Core

Maybe you could find someone on FABO with one to sell. Or...turn it into a manual defrost, lol.

    Heater Core

Thats awesome!! Maybe it just needed a Kickstart. I'm with you on not wanting to pull the box out again :BangHead:

    Heater Core

Man, it sounds like a vacuum issue. But I guess it could be a door not opening mechanically. I think the linkage on the right side of the box, about where your left knee would be if you were sitting) is the one that opens and closes between heat to the floor or to the two holes that send it...

    Heater Core

Paul, do you have any movement of air when you push the different buttons?. Mine has a central vacuum line that connects to the intake and branches off several times. One way Tees off to feed the "performance gauge" another goes to the heater /ac and branches off a few more times. Without...

    Heater Core

I would make sure you have vacuum and the right door opens and closes correctly. Hopefully tomorrow ill have some time to look at mine to find out what vacuum line moves the door.

    Heater Core

By the way, wife and I drove around in the Barracuda for 3 hours. We made a few stops, picked up some Lavender plants for the front porch and some salmon for dinner! It was a great few hours out!! Of course, the 12 year old grandson (whom we are raising) only called about 4 or 5 times.

Paul, Here are some great figures from the field service manual. They should help determine which doors should be open and closed.

I'm getting ready to head out on a drive. I'll look at mine when I get back and see if I can help since mine is an a/c box also.

    Heater Core

Paul, I found a picture of the heater core side of my heater box. It shows the gasket I used. It looks a hair big, but I'm sure it sealed well when I installed it. I wish I could remember exactly. It must have made sense to use it there.

    Heater Core

I think...my memory isn't the best....that I used it for the driver's side fresh air box to cowl. Seems like I may have needed to cut it and make it smaller so it would fit. Let me think in it!!!
