Question about installing master cylinder on 68 dart

The rubber "keeper" fits around the pushrod to keep it from coming out of the master cylinder. Your old pushrod should have one. The pushrod can be a pain to get out. The last one I did, I loosened the master cylinder at the firewall and put a spacer in between the firewall and the master...

    Rear brake wheel cylinder

There was a thread that covered this a while back. 9" drums did not use pins in the wheel cylinder. I'll see if I can find it. I don't have personal experience with 9".

    smelled burning, saw smoke

You got it, Rob. I can tell when my "parking brake" is on. Now, when I decided to adjust the cable, it took 3 days of PB Blaster to get the adjusting nut to move.

Can't say it hasn't happened to me...well, I could but I'd be lying :D At least you found out your brakes need adjusted.

    brakes

When I first went from a single pot to the MC36415 I "think" the stock rod was too short. Dang, It was about 9 years ago and I'm not certain. I still have my original and may try it in the 36406, although the adjustable one works fine.

    brakes

Yours could be from a kit, or something, but it could work. I went with a Raybestos MC 36406 (15/16" bore) after not liking a MC36412 with a 1-1/8" bore. The MC36406 works much better. It's easier to push, but does travel a bit lower. I also went with an adjustable push rod. I looked...

Getting my *** handed to me.. these damm brakes

I haven't heard that before. I "think" I may have installed my pushrod before installing the master cylinder, but I can't be sure. Not sure why the rod wouldn't go all the in until the retainer seats. All you're trying to do replace the air with fluid. Here's a picture from when I did mine...

1964 Dodge Dart - Wheel Stuck

Hey man, no worries, we're here to help! Shoot, my 66 Barracuda drums will be hard to get off after 6 months. So, we all know how much of a bear they can be. Funny thing is...when it comes loose, it seems to come all at once.

1964 Dodge Dart - Wheel Stuck

The blue thing is not attached to the drum. Here's a picture showing the adjuster at the bottom. Thete is a slot on the bottom of the backing plate. Stick your screwdriver in and rotate the star screw to close the shoes together. Drums get stuck. After you move the adjuster in, beat on...

    brakes not working right

It moves pretty quick, for sure!! The last forum "system" we were on called it a PM or DM. I can't remember which. When we updated to this one it changed to "conversation ". Reminds me of when the Air Force changed from "salvage" to "Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office"!!!

On FABO it's called a "conversation". You click on the member's screen name, then click on "start a conversation" and send them a "private message".

    Master Cylinder Size

I 3rd a 15/16". When I replaced the original 1-pot on my 66 Barracuda I went with a 1- 1/8". Yup, it was hard as a rock. Swapped to a 15/16" and bam, just the ticket. I did buy an adjustable pushrod for the first one, but I might be able to go back with the original.

    Master Cylinder Bore?

That's part of why I love this hobby. Learning as we go and figuring out "unique " ways to get things done. Sometimes I'm more creative than others. That's when the neighbors hear unnatural words flowing from the garage., lol.

    Master Cylinder Bore?

Another vote for 15/16" Manual front K-H, rear drums. When I first swapped from a single pot on my 66 Barracuda, I put on a 1-1/16". The brakes never felt right. Several years later I put in a 15/16" totally happy with the brakes now.

Install new master cylinder without bleeding?

How about bench bleeding on the car? Thats how I did mine about 6 years ago using one of the cheap parts store m/c bleed kits. Picture before I filled the reservoirs. Edit: I still bled the entire system since I changed from a single pot m/c to a dual.

    Brake lights staying on

I updated my 66 master cylinder from a single pot to a dual. I ended up buying an adjustable pushrod from Dr. Diff. That, and adjusting the switch did the trick.

    Brake lights staying on

Agree @toolmanmike . Anything but an original master cylinder will cause the brake light switch to be out of adjustment.

You clearly need to step up the cursing. Either it wasn't loud enough in the beginning or it wasn't mean sounding enough.
