    Bang for the Buck Thread

Yeah, me too!! That would be a beast in my little Barracuda!! I pulled a 2001 5.9 Magnum from a yard. Stripped it down, took it to a machine shop for hot tank, hone, crank polish, new main, rod, and cam bearings. I sent the cam to Oregon Cam Grinding for a regrind (.215/.223 @ .050, .517 @...

    So very stuck...

If you pull the entire distributor out and look in the hole, you'll see the intermediate shaft. It connects the cam to the oil pump and it drives the distributor. The shaft can be rotated one tooth at a time to change the orientation of the rotor. For example, you could back it out...

    So very stuck...

It doesn't really matter where the rotor is pointing as long as the tower in the cap has the spark plug wire going to #1 cylinder. Having the rotor pointing a little more towards the #1 plug will give you more clearance for the vacuum advance running into the firewall. If you move the...

Even though he has a Mustang, it's powered by Mopar!! And...he's an 18 year old young gun working on an engine so I give him Major Props for that! @Professor Fate has a lot of good info to get you started. Give it a try and let us know how it's going.

Using vacuum gauge to tune engine?

If your distributor doesn't have a vacuum advance, put a rubber cap on both, the ported and full manifold vacuum ports.

    Looking for some basic mods?

Welcome Alex! Looks like a nice clean Valiant. Lots of great ideas here! I can't really add anything new. Safety is always good so, as others have said, make sure the brakes are good to go. Dual exhaust would be good and will help your car sound good too!! Then maybe a 4 bbl intake...
