Question for those running 17" Mustang Bullitt wheels - spacers

I used to make hub centric spacers to put Mustang Bullit wheels on A body cars. The spacers usually need to be about .75 thick to get everything in the correct location.

Which color Bullitt wheels would look best?

I use the OEM wheel right out of the Ford catalog on a lot of project cars. The last Mopar Muscle article had a pretty good shot of Tim's car with Mustang rims on it. http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/techarticles/engine/mopp_1106_1968_plymouth_valiant_427_engine_swap/index.html

Anybody running 17" Cobra Bullit rims on a Duster

We were at the track the other day (Portland International) running 150 mph with Mustang wheels hung on a 1968 Valiant. 17x9 rims with DOT race rubber. 427 inch small block pushes the car up past 150 mph on the straights. No spacers required but the car has custom hubs up front and a B body...

Dude, When you step up to wide tires and big anti-sway bars you start to get outside the realm of what the aftermarket is currently producing. Here is a custom setup I had built for my car. Notice the kink in the anti-sway bar to clear wide tires with lots of backspacing. Also notice that...

    17 and 18 wheel combo

This might seem obvious advice but you should actually measure your own car to determine what will fit and what won't.

need to know what i need for width and backspaceing on 17s for my 70 dart swinger

Just use 17 inch rims that have the same width and backspacing as your current rims. Use tires with the same width and diameter as your current tires. Then the new tires will bolt on and fit exactly the same as your existing tires.

Anybody running 17" Cobra Bullit rims on a Duster

Yes, I know exactly how to put 17x8 Bullit rims on a Dart but it isn't super easy or cheap. Basically you need custom spacers for the rear that are about 1/2 inch thick. Hub centric steps on both sides of the spacer is the trick there and you'll need longer wheel studs. Up front you can do...

Yep, caliper is mounted upside down in that picture. I didn't want to go to the work of changing knuckles just to check the fit of the parts. Once I knew the parts would fit I went ahead and swapped knuckles.

That brake kit is from DoctorDiff. Viper calipers, new Charger rotors, custom hub, custom caliper bracket. DoctorDiff has some cool parts and his kits are well designed. The hoses are included and fit nicely and all the hardware is supplied.

How about Mustang 18x9 inch rims? Here on a Mopar front suspension with late model FMJ spindles, Charger 14 inch brake rotors and Viper calipers.

I've never had a customer ask for replacement rotors so I've never set up a price for them. I know they last a long time, even the track cars don't seem to eat them up very fast. I suppose they would be about $175 each today if someone needed a set. They are only available from me. I tried...

The rim is from a Mustang not the rotor.

That is the AR189 brake kit. The AR189 is the 13 inch kit for A/B/E body cars with the 1973 or newer disk knuckles. That is a Mustang Bullitt rim, 17x8 with 5.72 backspacing. But the brake kit pushes the hub outboard by 0.70 inches so it is just the same as having a 17x8 rim with 5 inches...

Here is a 17x8 rim with the Magnum Force dropped knuckle. There is lots of room for the upper ball joint but the tie rod ends get jammed into the rim if there is very much backspacing.

Clair, if you do ever want to upgrade to the 13 inch kit and stay with the early calipers just drop me a line. If you think the hub placement is exactly correct on your car I could build custom hubs to keep the mounting surface in the stock location. From what I can tell by measuring various...

Anybody running 17" Cobra Bullit rims on a Duster

Clair, I have a kit that is a 13 inch upgrade just for guys like you who have already invested in the earlier calipers. Basically just new hubs, 13 inch rotors and caliper brackets. You don't even need to bleed the brakes. Now one issue is that the new kit moves the hub face outboard a bit...

There are some pictures on the website in the gallery section but I don't show them in the product side. The website is old and very outdated but I'm so busy selling parts I never get around to updating the site. Here is what the centers look like on a Bullitt rim. They are designed for the...

I make aluminum center caps for the Bullitt rims. They are dished on the inside to clear the Mopar dust cap. I design all of my 13 inch brake kits for the Bullitt rim.

Yep, looks great. The A body cars look really good with 17x9 rubber on them, especially if they are lowered down a little bit. The 9 inch wide rubber up front takes a little body work to clear and you have to have the backspacing dead nuts on to clear everything. 18 inch rims make it easier...

The 13 inch brake kits I make are designed to work with a Mustang rim. 17x8 with 5.72 fits on B and E body cars. For an A body car sometimes the 5.72 BS fits and sometimes you need to go to the newer rims with more backspacing. I have customers who also run the 17x9 Mustang rims. Sometimes a...
