    Another bad weekend

I had my appendix out when I was about 10. A fellow in his 50s died from Peritonitis while I was there, from a ruptured appendix. Best wishes.

It's time to have a serious discussion about end-of-life priorities

This is not a joke, it really happened..... Back in the 70s when newspapers had For Sale sections...I saw an ad that read 'Coffin for sale, slightly used'.

Any Pontiac guys on here? Need insight.

Ply 67, Had a fr brake hose on my GTO block up with rust/sediment before I bought the car. Driven 1000 miles like that...... Since the new lifters are the same type as the old ones, what do you think caused the old ones to fail to pump oil to the top end? Disc stuck to p'rod seat/gummed up?

Read posts 112 & 119 to see how these lifters send oil to the prods.

Took the 67 Mustang out for a cruise today

I had a friend had a 67, Dark Green. I always liked the dual air vents behind the doors, were only on the 67.

Yup, I know the disc is flat. I have used those same lifters. But is the underside of the prod socket also flat, cannot remember?

    Bad case of Diverticulitis

Hope you get better soon. On a lighter note....... I used to work with a bloke who was a hypochondriac. If you mentioned an illness/disease/condition, he had had it...sometimes more than once. He was actually very fit. Whenever he would mention diverticulitis, to shut him up, I would say I went...

    Manifold Vacuum Experiment

What about the inlet/check valve for the acc pump? It is in the bottom of the fuel bowl. If that leaks or fails, the pump shot goes back into the float bowl, not to the nozzle.

    Manifold Vacuum Experiment

If you are getting intermittent pump discharge at the nozzle, I would be looking at the pump diaphragm/inlet check valve....or fit an AFB/AVS.....

Any Pontiac guys on here? Need insight.

Plym 67, Don't you think it is strange that all 16 lifters could be faulty???? I don't think they are. I described earlier in this thread that the engine might need to be running to pump oil up top. I suspect all the lifters pumped up when you primed the engine. See the pic below, it is an...

Rusty, I assume this is a Holley DP carb? I doubt it is the acc pump. Put a piece of thin wire in the Idle Air Bleed to reduce the size...& test drive.

If my explanation of oil metering is correct, & I believe it is, it would explain why no oil is getting to the top end without the engine running. If these lifters were solids, you would get oil to the top end.

Any Pontiac guys on here? Need insight.

First. Post #107 is incorrect. The disc meters oil through the p'rod to the top end. What 'shuts' up the lifter is the valve at the base of the inner piston. not the disc. Second. The flat disc with 4 holes in it in post # 108 is used to meter oil through the prod. But how can get through...

Any Pontiac guys on here? Need insight.

There is no problem with the lifters...or oil supply to the top end. A tiny bit of oil is metered by the lifter [ different brands use different results, but result is the same ] with each cam rotation. Eventually it fills up the prod...bit by bit....to lube the top end. If there was no...

Another possibility.....worn thrust brg. Engine thrust brg is on #4 main. Lever back & forth on crank. Normal endplay is 0.008" or less. More likely to be damaged [ worn ] if used with a T400 trans. Oil pump drive shaft runs veeeery close to a counterweight; could come in contact & make noise...

Post #42. Pic of the oil pump drive shaft. Rough end is quite normal. If you look closely, the last 3/16" of the shaft is smooth...& slightly larger in OD compared to the rough area. The body of the Pontiac dist is a tight fit in the hole, to a depth of about 2.5"; no way it can move around to...

    Manifold Vacuum Experiment

Post #95. Wrong.....again. GM used MVA on production engines until 1968. Chevs had about 24* at idle, much of that MVA. My 1966 GTO came with 10.75:1 comp ratio with a very mild '067' cam. 197/212* @ 050 duration. Initial timing was 6* + 20* MVA; so idled at 26*.
