    zinc oil useage?

S'cuder. You sound like a very sensible guy. I am sure Lake Speed is very knowledgeable. I don't want an opinion, I want to see a test that compares the same oil with & without zinc in it. Then the result is fact, not opinion.

    zinc oil useage?

NB Turk, You better contact Lucas Oil company & tell them they got it wrong. While still looking for something on the net that proves zinc is a power eater [ found NOTHING ], I came across a Lucas advert that claims because it has MORE zinc in it, it INCREASES power...because it...

    zinc oil useage?

As for links about zinc. The link in post #94 says nothing definitive. Words like 'may', 'some', 'suggested' are hardly a definitive conclusion.

    zinc oil useage?

I have done a LOT of research on the net about Zinc. Watched a 1 hr video by Lake Speed jr. I could not find any mention, ANYWHERE, of zinc causing a power loss & certainly not being a 'power eater' [ Newbomb Turk's words, not mine ]. The Penrite Oils web site has a 3 page technical paper on...

    zinc oil useage?

Well if it is a PROVEN FACT that zinc is a POWER EATER, there must be before/after tests that prove it. Where are the test? You guys are making the claim not me, so provide some EVIDENCE. A statement from Newbomb Turk is not evidence, especially since he is proven wrong on so many occasions.....

    zinc oil useage?

92b. Yes correct about the levels of zinc. When you look at different oils that have zinc, the amount varies greatly, often from 800 ppm to over 2000 ppm. That tells any sensible person that more zinc is adding for marketing purposes [ ' Buy ours, it has more zinc' ]....or nobody really knows...

    zinc oil useage?

Turk, You should try & remember what you post. In post #48, you said zinc was 'an incredible power eater'. Using the word incredible in that context implies: very large, huge. Where is the proof????

    zinc oil useage?

S'cuder. Terms used in that link use words like 'may' & 'inappropriate'. Someone's opinion.

    zinc oil useage?

The only true test would be a dyno test using the same oil, with & without zinc in it. Anything else is an opinion.
  10. B

    zinc oil useage?

The only proof that Zinc 'costs power' would be a dyno test of the same brand & grade of oil, with & without Zinc in it. Otherwise, the proof only exists in someone's fertile imagination....

Is there a TEST that proves Zinc costs power?

    zinc oil useage?

I doubt there is an engine oil today that does not have some zinc in it. The debate is how much is enough to give protection to engine parts......& it is not just FT cams that benefit from zinc.

    zinc oil useage?

Can never understand why people use diesel oil in a petrol engine....... There is a plethora of oils available for both types, & using the correct oil ensures the right additives are in the oil.......in the right quantity.

    Another 383 Cam Consideration

The 383 has a very high rod/stroke ratio. See the warning below about excessive duration & loss of tq in a 440. [ Applies also to 383 ] That is because the 440 also has a high rod/stroke ratio. The Chrys big blocks have the highest R/S ratio of all the big blocks. That means they do not tolerate...

How to get 400 hp out of 1971 340 .30 over

You need a 750 carb for a 340 to rev to 6500 rpm. Nope. Not according to these guys..... See below. A bit hard to read, says this: '.... would rev the 340 UP TO 6500 RPM right now with the hyd lifters without a whisper of valve float or ign miss.....Chrys engineers have obviously got a BEAUTIFUL...

    zinc oil useage?

Not break in oil....... B/in oil is for.....breaking in. You have done that now. B/in oil has different additives. Select a running oil which has Zn/Ph in it & good to go. I would NOT use separate additive.

    Another 383 Cam Consideration

If you don't want a cam/lifter failure, have the OEM lifters re-faced.

Yep, above is the deal. If you already have a dist, you can do the above a lot cheaper & at home with hand tools.

Feel like 360 should have more power

If you get 6 spark plug testers to 'look' at a plug to determine how the engine is running, you will get 7 different answers....... Without knowing how long the engine was run, at what throttle opening, what load, how quickly the engine was cut....then it is nothing better than a good guess...

Feel like 360 should have more power

Post #1, white smoke. White smoke would be coolant getting into the combustion chamber...or brake fluid via the brake booster. I see nothing wrong with the mixture looking at the spark plug pic. The low compression test #s are worrying but without knowing the cam specs, they might be as good as...

The lifter clips pop out from lifter pump up. Use sol lifters, no pump up.

    1967 charger 383 2 barrel performance mods

Rebuilt, + 0.030", & a 4bbl to replace the original 2bbl. I would try to find about more about what parts were used in the rebuild. Hotter cam? Depending what has been done already, there might not be much else to be done without destroying drivability. It is a heavy car with a 383, not a 440.
