    Stabbing engine and trans?

I've done it both ways several times. Putting it in from the bottom has a lot of advantages, but from the top is okay if you are careful and have the front of the car high enough. One thing to consider is that installing the engine and tranny bolted together from the top is best done with two...

    Which 440 to buy?

What I would go for and what you intend to do is totally different. I would buy the $450 engine and go through it and rebuild my own transmission. The engine and transmission are cores if unproven. For your intentions, the motorhome engine sounds like what you want. As long as you hear it run...

    Bell housing

Sure they made them in aluminum. '70 and up big blocks had them, but they were for the 10 1/2'' clutches with 130 tooth flywheel and had a 4.807'' opening for the bearing retainer. 2892513 is the number for them. Have you or anyone you know used the Lakewood aluminum bell housing you listed? I...

If your engine is already broken in and has no leaks or issues, I would run a GOOD synthetic oil.

Can I use B or C body manifolds fore better flow on my sleeper GTS?

Nice car, I like the ruff look! What are you running for a clutch, bell housing, and rear end (with ratio)? I'm thinking about building a similar set up. Thanks for the pictures etc!

Edelbrock E-Street vs Performer RPM Heads

What I don't get is why do we have to get the aftermarket heads checked out for valve job, guide fitment, etc. and why are they not ready to bolt on OOTB? Other than changing springs that match your cam, why do they even have to be touched or checked at all? That is something that has always...

There's no use. The shipping would be killer even for a bare block from Canada to the U.S...........

Disappointed in my 383 on the Dyno

I suppose it also depends on your location. Around here, for $400 or so is the going rate as long as it's not an H.P. or older than a '71, they are around if you look.........

Disappointed in my 383 on the Dyno

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the statement that ''I can't find a 440 block for less than a grand''. A whole running engine out of a New Yorker maybe, but just the block? Look around, you should be able to find a standard bore block and caps that need machining for around 400 bucks or...

    Big Block Swap

Welcome to the site. At the bare minimum, you will need custom engine mounts, a big block transmission, exhaust from the heads down, engine harness wiring modifications, a C-Body oil pan and pickup, and you will have to probably need to shorten the drive shaft. This isn't an easy or cheap swap...

    Degreeing a Cam, or not.....

I read somewhere that if you use the timing set that is the same as the manufacturer of the cam, it will be close OOTB. This may be an old wives tale, but is there any truth to this? (experts) To the O.P., the only sure way to tell where the cam is phased is to pull the front end off and the...

440 stuck wirst pins and rods

They are all varnished up. Soak them over night or even a few days in solvent, penetrating oil, diesel, gasoline, or whatever you have at hand. They will loosen up especially if you put them in the hot sun while soaking.........

    Oil reserves

Good question. It all depends on how good your drain back is in the block. If you have a high volume oil pump, it becomes more of a concern. My guess is that you would have at least 3 quarts in the pan at that R.P.M. with the rest in the engine either coming or going. As your R.P.M. increases...

A 10 1/2'' would work fine for your combo and intended use. Just make sure you get a good name brand assembly like McLeod.

What is going on with Trick Flow??

Another thing to take in consideration on not just car parts, but a lot of items in general, is that a lot of container ships traveling from overseas have lost a lot of containers of imported goods due to overloading and rough seas. This includes car parts, toys, clothes, shoes, and many other...

    Value of RV 440/727

I agree 100% as long as it was stored inside and out of the elements. How long ago was it pulled? Was there anything put in the cylinders to keep the engine from seizing? If it wasn't taken care of in this way, it would be deemed as a core to me and worth $200 to $300 with the tranny. After...

    Thinking about selling my car

It must be nice. I've admittedly have too much stuff that I will never use in my lifetime. My plan is to sell off what I will never use or get to in my lifetime when I get to that point. I just need to sort out the doubles and triples of what I have. And that's coming within the next 2 years or...

    Thinking about selling my car

I couldn't agree with you more! How many times that I have thought seriously about getting out of the game completely. Then I step back and calm down a bit. A little progress on my son's Dart

Oh, I thought you were doing headers on this car. How did the manifolds fit? I heard some info about surfacing them so they point more downward towards the block on the outlet. What modifications did you need to do to the TTI head pipes? My car will be 4 speed as well. I am considering this for...

Good stuff. Thanks for sharing this info. How hard was the initial installation for both sides? I am seriously considering buying them, since you can't get Schumachers any more. The long tubes would be better in the long run anyway..........
