340 exhaust heat shield needed for Van's to repop.

If it were that ‘easy’ or ‘simple’ or ‘cheap’ or ‘inexpensive’ to make quality reproduction parts, everybody would be in the parts business. You gotta pay to play.

340 exhaust heat shield needed for Van's to repop.

Maybe I should sell my cars…. That way it will eliminate me being in any accidents/collisions, which in turn would reduce my insurance costs, reduce my fuel bill, reduce wear and tear items and also eliminate me needing to find replacement parts for anything!! Oh and that’s not even factoring...

My 273 turned out to be a 318...what did I buy?

All that rubber hose for fuel line gives me heart palpitations.

My 273 turned out to be a 318...what did I buy?

Welcome and nice starter ride! Did the seller/previous owner have the car a while and make all those modifications? Seems odd that he would indicate the block is a 273 instead of a 318? Maybe the seller bought the car with those modifications already and flipped it?

    LD4B Intake question

Did you enlarge the ports on the LD4B? Or if ported intake and heads isn’t a concern, no big deal. LD4B’s sell for decent coin these days. Not as much as LD340’s though which would be a match for your 340.

    Discontinued oil filter

None of that surprises me. No reason for someone to be paid $40/hr to make oil filters. Oil filters are low tech so why pay a high wage for it?

    Discontinued oil filter

Bought a dozen of these FE00292 filters today. Still have one of the FE00151 filters from over a dozen I bought many years ago.

    Which Engine? Which Intake?

Folks do a bit of grinding on a LD4B surface along where the intake bolts are to line up with the different head angle the pre 66 small blocks have. You could have a 63/64/65 273 block with heads and a LD4B that been slightly modified to fit.

    LD 4B tells a story...

I reached out to Edelbrock about 7 years ago asking them a few questions about the LD4B. One of them was how many years they made them and their response was from 1967 to 1981.

    LD 4B tells a story...

In your first photo, is the older LD4B the one in the left or right? Anyone know when/why the carb mounting base changed?

What is this open cavity in my 318 heads?

It was an attempt by Chrysler to ‘shave some weight‘ for fuel economy purposes back in the day. Then they got serious a few years later with the Feather Duster/Dart Lite.

318 going into my 340 71 valiant. Need help on shopping list

If the car is a 71 Valiant then it never came from the factory with a 340. A 318 was the top engine in a valiant. If it’s a 71 Duster then it could be a 340 that might have the orignal 340 in it.

    318 Identification

Wow, a 1968 model year car built on September 19, 1968 is very, very, very late build car! Others with 68 model year cars would know better but I don’t think Chrysler started adding the last few digits of the car VIN to the engine block until part way through 1968 production and even then it...

    318 Identification

What shape side marker light/reflectors does your car have on the fenders? Are they round or rectangular? A build date of mid September 1968 would indicate it‘s a 1969 model year car. Chrysler typically stopped production of that model year in July with the next model year starting in August...

Difference between Chrysler Blue and Chrysler Turquoise engine paint colors?

This sums up what has happened and will happen for the rest of time. The paint fades over time. Sure the engine might not be ‘cooked’ in the sun as much as the exterior paint on the car but the heat under that engine bay whenever the car is running will fade the paint over time. Trying to buy...

    Oil Underneath Intake

Oil is likely getting wicked up by the threads on the intake bolts and then pooling at the low point once it drips off the base of the intake bolt heads. Putting thread sealant on each of the intake bolts (when you screw them in) prevents the oil from coming up.

Yes it’s the Weiand Stealth that is similar to the LD4B.

looking for intake carb / manifold recommendations for 318 1973 La block

Nice setup! I’m running something similar with a LD4B, 1406, 72+ 340 manifolds, dual exhaust w H pipe, Chrysler 4 bbl kickdown, 302 heads, smogless (advanced curve) distributor from Trailbeast. My 318 runs a lot better now compared to when it wheezed with the 1975 setup it was born with. I...

Carb and intake are leaning to passenger side

The air filter and carb are connected to the air intake. The valve covers and heads are connected to the engine block. The exhaust manifolds is also connected to the heads. All of these are connected to the engine block which is connected to the car by the……… engine mounts!

Need help decoding VIN and engine number

Does the car have a fender tag (on top part of drivers side inner fender) or a build sheet? Either of those would tell you if the car had a sunroof and disc brakes when it left the factory. The VIN on the dash won’t tell you what options the car had when it left the factory.

    360 ci Duster Timing

The 360 wasn’t offered in an A body until 1974 but was in the full size Dodge’s in 73 though. A factory service manual for a Polara or a Fury would have that info.

    340 Manifolds, Reproduction, Any interest?

Yup, lots of feedback has been provided on your thread. While some of it is indicating ‘it can’t be done’ others are indicating there sure is a market for it at the price you’re thinking of. Since you made a moon reference, a lot of people didn’t think landing on the moon was possible. Sounds...

    91 Octane in a 340?

Nope. Chevron has a separate hose and nozzle for the 94. The 87, 89 and 91 have the same nozzle and hose so you won’t get a full tank of 91 if the previous person pumped 87.

    91 Octane in a 340?

If you don’t have your tunes blasting you should be able to hear the engine knocking/pinging. It will be most noticeable on a hot day and when going up a hill giving the car some gas. When I was setting my timing, I would take the car for a drive and mat it going up a steep hill to listen for...

    Happy 3 18 Day!

I took the photo 16 years ago. About 9 years after this photo, I ditched the 2bbl setup and 318 manifolds with a 4bbl and 340 exhaust manifolds.

    Edelbrock Intake Issue

I tried a bunch of different gaskets and tried sanding both the surface of the intake and the thermostat housing cover and it would always leak. I then bought that Billit housing and it’s not leaked since.

    Engine options

Any 318 from 1968 to 1991 would bolt right in. The 318 Magnum came out in 1991.
