    Flywheel to crank bolt size

ARP usually have a shank or shoulder portion that are pretty tight. I ran into that with my McLeod flywheel and slant six crank.

    Faceplated 833 4 Speed

I was lucky to find a faceplated 3.09 on the shelve from Dan Brewer. When I sent my 2.66 to Liberty in 2021 it took MONTHS to get it done. Faceplating A-833 transmission gears is not a big part of their business and not high priority.

    Hydraulic clutch setup

No arm, bearing rides on your input shaft retainer and AN hoses connect to the cylinder. You should get the throwout bearing with the kit.

Tailshaft bushing oil hole orientation a-833

Just back from Brewers: It aligns with the V Channel. Only way to get any lube to the Yoke.

Rebuilt A 833 front oil leak

I would pop the retainer off and check the seal. Trans out, easy, trans in, no so much. Also I make a small gasket and sandwich it between the bell and trans on the countershaft plug. They sometime seep there also.

    833 Front bearing retainer

Call Dan! And congrats on going with a 4 speed, when I did a 4 speed behind my slant, I could not believe how much better it was!

Borg and Beck type clutch with hydraulic throwout bearing?

I have an american powertrain HTB. I put my system together with my B&B pressure plate. I had a 3100 lb PP and the pressure to push my clutch in was too hard. I called A.P. and the tech said, oh no, no B&B could be used. He said if you pushed the bearing past the 3 fingers it would be bad. I...

Who wins the battle to build an A833?

Dan posted that he had just gotten a couple of DC Main cases at a swap meet. They might be gone now. I did my own with some help from Dan, thank you, and Liberty did my gears. So far I am very happy with the box. However it's behind a 300 hp slant six in a 2200 lb. car. Liberty was very slow...

    How to install O/D plug

Hi Dan, I saw this and wanted to ask a similar question. I built an aluminum case trans for my drag car and am using the Red Line heavy shock oil on your recommendation. The case was bushed with steel bushings front and rear by Liberty and it has their raced prepped gears. My problem is oil...

3.09 4 Speed Gear Set Strength

Never had any trouble with the 3.09. I did have trouble with the second, but I think that was just thousands of miles. Pretty sure the gears are the same material. If you think about a gear like a lever, the bigger lever is easier to use, same with the gear ratio.

Hydraulic TOB with 3 finger Clutch

Yea, I had an NOS green cover Direct Connection PP for a SS Barracuda or Dart. I had purchased it for a 440 drag car years ago.

Hydraulic TOB with 3 finger Clutch

Ok, good. However I am using an S&W pedal with the levers they install for rods and such. My geometry is a lot different from your pedal and linkage. I actually had to drill another pivot hole between the two that come on a floor pedal system. So I was playing with the pedal ratio.

Hydraulic TOB with 3 finger Clutch

You confused me, isn't overcenter spring for the mechanial pedal assembly? You, I guess, are using your pedal with the master cylinder. I have a American Powertrain TOB with an old Airheart cylinder in the floor. The MC returns the pedal with no spring. However, the PP I was using, B&B 3200 lbs...

    833 Assembly Woes...

Yea, I meant in the bottom. I have built the 309 set without dropping the cluster out. I move the slider right to the forward edge and after it clears the cluster, I slide it back.

    833 Assembly Woes...

I was going to ask the same question, the OD boxes I have built have to have the cluster out.

V-Gate or Ram Rod shifter identification.

There are 3 spacers, 3/8 long that go between the shifter and the mounting plate. Plate to trans extension housing, 3 spacers on the other set of bolt holes and then the shifter lines up with the shift levers on the side cover.

    slant bellhousings

I would say that your 3 speed bell is a single pattern. The cast iron slant 4 speed bell (64-66) would be your best choice. Your 67-68 a body trans should bolt right up to this cast iron bell. The aluminum OD slant bell uses the large input retainer and will require some effort to bolt the 67-68...

    Slant 6/273 Flywheel Compatibility

They are doing a group buy on a good clutch over at slant six dot org. You are going to need a good clutch. You can sell that slant bell if you don't ask too much for it also over there.

Shifting too far in 3rd gear....?

You have a few things to check. One thing that can happen is the ramp or taper that the brass ring rides on can wear. Also the brass ring can wear. You check them with the gear out and you push the ring down and make sure it stops spinning. If it doesn't stop turning the trans gear will never...

    10.5" flywheel for a slant 6?

A 10.5 is going to have 130 teeth, not 122. I think this is a truck flywheel. Low starter. Not the one on ebay.

    833 Gear Pitting... Help!

Yes, it's bad. Even with new needle bearings it will make noises and wear the new parts out. You can shorten that one to use as your assembly tool, don't chuck it out.

    833 Gear Pitting... Help!

Well I see the ball and trunion so you have a 3.09 first gear set, 64-65 A body trans. Looking at the rust on the case, you need a complete teardown and inspection. Brewers can sell you the gears you need after you identify what is bad. At a minimum you will need o-rings, gasket set, most...

1960 Valiant Overcenter Spring and Clutch Questions

Ian, it looks like a spring was in the hole closest to the pedal side, you can see a small wear mark on one side. The 60-61 cars were quite different so I am guessing it had a slightly different set up. If a 62 up spring is close on length, could you drill a couple of holes to mount the spring...

    Bad thrust bearing?

I built a 360 years ago. PO had used NOS on the motor. I never checked or looked at the crank, something I never do. Anyway machine shop didn't catch it either. First time I ran it and put the timing light on it, the damper moved in and out under throttle. Turns out bearings were fine, crank was...
