I've smoked 2 727s, both professionally built, with the same built 340. I have yet to kill a properly built 904.

Rare Dodge Dart GT? Which engine is this?

I've got a metric (0-240KPH) rally speedometer in my 67 Barracuda. I bought it out of Mexico. I'll post a picture tomorrow night.

    318 Poly A engine in a 67 Cuda

I suggest you contact TTI & ask them about fitment. I'd be surprised if they don't know.

Today, dollar for dollar, is the 318 faster than the 340 ???

The problem I have with this thread is the built in bias of the basic comparison. A running 318 compared to a non running 340. The running motor has to win out. For this comparison to be fair both motors should be freshened up. Then you make your comparison. In other words the question should...

-22 degrees for the low this Wednesday

I'm 300 miles north of Minot in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It's easy to dress for cold, just add layers. Intense cold is actually easier to deal with than intense heat, you can only take off so many clothes. When it's cold we plug our cars in. There's an 120v electric block heater that replaces one of...

Anyone ever break/bust/crack/fracture the factory 273 adjustable rocker arms?

Ran 273 rockers in a 13:1 340 with Crane triple valve springs spinning to 7800 RPM back in the eighties. Never broke a rocker, bent a lot of pushrods, but never broke a rocker.

    Magical oil leak

You say you've checked the pressure sender fittings, but have you checked the pressure sender itself for a leak that happens only while under running pressure? I have an 86 Laser XT. There'd be a drop or 2 of oil under the car. I'd look for leaks, wipe & find nothing. When the leak finally got...

I'd like your thoughts on this 360

If it's a stock 360 with 2.45 gears, I'd be surprised if you could crack 15.50. If mid 14's are what you're trying to get to, a 3.55 suregrip rear end might be enough.

    273 warm up!

When we built my 273 about 4.5 yrs ago we got Cometics to make up head gaskets. They were pricy though. Just call them.

    Adjustable Rocker Arms

I swear by them. Had a set in my old 340. I used the Direct Connection adjusters & nuts. The 340 had triple valve springs, a .585 lift solid cam, 13:1 compression & a 7800 rpm shift point. Never broke a rocker, bent a lot of pushrods though. My current 273 has a .551 / .531 lift cam & I'm using...

    Why not build a 340?

    It's a no-brainer then, go with the 340.

    273 Supercharged...ITS HAPPENING PEOPLE!!

They may be pricy, but as far as I know the only head gaskets that fit "PROPERLY" are the Cometics. Their gaskets come in a 273 bore with different available thicknesses.

    Copper exhaust gaskets

I'm using the Mr Gasket copper gaskets on my 273 with vintage Blackjack headers. Always had trouble with the old style gaskets blowing out between cylinders 3-5 & 4-6. No leaks or sounds of any kind in the 4yrs they've been on. I used a set of the aluminum composite gaskets on a 350 70 GMC...

    cracked 273 heads

As far as head gaskets are concerned, Cometics makes a 273 head gasket in different thicknesses. They aren't cheap though.

    Spark plug questions

I'm using RN9YC Champions. I bought a case of them back in the mid 80's. [special deal] I still have 48 left. Once these are done, if I'm still around, I'll probably go to NGK.

    proform rockers ?

Back in the 80's I ran 273 rockers on my 13:1 340 with a 585 lift cam & Crane triple valve springs. Spun the motor to 7800rpm regularly. Bent lots of pushrods, but never broke a rocker. Save your money & just get good locking adjusters.

Worth it to build my 273?

I've always been one to do things the hard way. My 273 is built.(Est HP 370) It wasn't cheap & several parts had to be custom made. Here's the build thread: http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=105492 BTW Do I regret it? NO! It sounds like a big block & goes like a scalded dog.
