Other places to shop: McMaster-Carr, Manhattan Supply Corp Starrett, Fowler, Mitutoyo and others Not to be a downer, just some thing to remember; measuring tools are only as good as the person using them.....it takes practice to be good Now for the comment that I'll catch heat...

    Compressor won't start up ...Ideas?

Gonna take a wild guess.............the capacitor is shot on your motor; it, the capacitor gives a little extra "kick" to start the motor turning, with out it the motor goes "locked rotor" . Might be able to get a replacement, it is located under the "bump" on the side of the motor, they are...

Help me with a toolbox for socket set

Shop Craigs list, flag down a tool truck see if they have any used boxes taken in trade. My track box is a plastic Stanley roll a round; rolls like a 2 wheeled hand truck; multiple drawers, removable trays, a tip out drawer, works great! You stated you don't have a garage, so what ever you...

    Running electric

Here's a thought...........does your local utility have to buy back excess solar power?? If (and I realize it's a BIG IF) they do, they get to plant the poles and run the wire up to your hose to "collect the excess " at no cost to you. It's a thought, look in to it.

What is the minimum size breaker for this welder???????

I'd be tempted to do a 40 amp, maybe 45 amp double pole breaker. Granted the welding outlet is rated at 50 amp, nothing says that you can't down size the feed to it; wire size is very important, especially the further away from the breaker your out let is. Breakered at 50 amp, you could be...

    Pulling wires...

I wish you the best of luck............though I thought per code you could not go more than 100 ft with out a pull station. In any event, lube, lots of lube, a good Kellem grip to grab a hold of the wire, 4 good friends to help pull the rope.

5HP air compressor electric motor ?

Rustytoolss: That "X" in the frame call out is buggin' me; it's giving me "that" feeling creeping up the back of my neck. As I stated, who ever made the compressor contracted with Magnetk to build the motors, they are 56 Frame motors, but that "X" says there is some thing else special about...

5HP air compressor electric motor ?

I just can't let this go........misinformation just sets me off I will grant you there are some motors that you can not change direction at hook up, they are fixed CW or CCW. Most in, my 30 years of industrial maintenance are convertible CW or CCW; I've done motors from 300HP 3600rpm drive...

5HP air compressor electric motor ?

What does the data tag say?? What is the frame number? You want to replace like for like, otherwise you can go off on a tangent trying to get a different one to fit because the foot print can be different, how high it sits, length of the shaft sticking out. What is the FLA, full load amps...

    Best approach to buying tools?

You mentioned Husky at HD. Is that the "same" Husky as "we" always knew, or is this, too, a new, improved chineseoated version? Sadly, HD's "Husky" is not the same we knew from days gone by. Don't know for certain but more than likely HD bought the name from New Brittan Tool and...

    Best approach to buying tools?

Buy what you can afford, what feels good in your hand........it don't mean s**t if the tool is Craftsman, Snap-On, Mac, etc and it is uncomfortable to use because then you won't. I have a very wide range of tool makers products; Craftsman, S-K, Thorsen, Mac, Snap-On, Lisle, Husky (old and new)...

    Rapid Air System

When I plumbed my garage, I used 1/2 inch copper tubing (I'll admit I got a deal of a lifetime "free"); put in low point drains and in horizontal runs the connections came off the top side of the run to minimize condensation at point of use. Seems to work well.

    needle scaler

I've used needle scalers in the past, work very good for knocking heavy rust off, never used one to remove undercoating; I have my doubts; I see the bottom side of the car being reshaped and/or ventilated. Your results may differ. Good luck.

    Garage Floor Paint

All I want to say is if you paint/coat your garage floor, you'll be doing it for the rest of your life. High traffic areas will wear thru, it will be chipped, scratched, gouged, possibly lifted due to vapor migration which will become areas that need re-coating. I readily agree when first done...
