    MUFFLER OPINIONS

I love the sound of a Flowmaster equipped car from outside. The reverberation and rumble, the cackle.... From inside though, it does wear on you. I had them for 12 years or more. I made a couple 1000 mile road trips with them in the car and even though I didn't get that "drone" that people speak...

Magnum Exhaust Manifolds in an A Body

There were no 318/5.2 trucks in 2004. By then, the options were the V6, the 4.7 and the 5.7 Hemi.

Big block exhaust is still loud

It seems to me that the 3" setup may be overkill for a 383. I have a 3" system in my 440/495 in my Charger. I ran 2 1/2" exhaust for years with the 440/493.

Magnum manifolds on a 66 dart

These will never flow like headers but they do help a little. Mopar Muscle magazine did a test on a crate 360 many years ago, comparing the HP and torque numbers using several different manifolds, then headers. The 340 manifolds added a surprisingly small power increase over the basic 318...

    65 Valliant exhaust

Guys like Rusty/Rob are often willing to go to great lengths to help members here. He has helped me more than once. What does NOT help is members that jump in asking for help while doling out little bits of information ONLY when asked. What the heck, man?? Do you WANT help or are you just trying...

    Truck manifolds on Dart Sport?

I'm confused - do you mean the starter or whole engine? Because I have considered a 5.9 Magnum if I find any major issues with the LA360 I currently have. I was responding to another post.....regarding the model of vehicle to use when buying a mini starter. The 5.9 Magnum is a great engine to...

    Truck manifolds on Dart Sport?

    A 1995 Ram 1500 with a 5.9 Magnum works too. I have one in my 75 Power Wagon 440.

    Truck manifolds on Dart Sport?

So what? Yeah, yeah....the Charger wheel opening is probably lower than a Dart but I love the look of a wheel and tire stuffed up in the body. It reminds me of this:

    Truck manifolds on Dart Sport?

The Dougs are supposed to be as good as the TTIs for about 2/3 the price. There are some C H E A P headers out there for small block A body cars and they are a pisser. They hang low and often need dents to clear the torsion bars, steering box and who knows what else. The pipe routing often...

    Truck manifolds on Dart Sport?

Some of the truck manifolds from the "Magnum" series engines do flow well. Not nearly as well as headers but still better than standard 318 units. The 1992-1993 Magnum manifolds had a 2 1/4" outlet. The right side clears an A body. I've used them. They exit over and behind the oil filter. The...

    Catalytic converters

A smog tech told me that owners are supposed to retain all emission equipment that are installed on pollution controlled vehicles, even if they are exempt from testing. In short, your 1975 car is required by law to have a converter but they don't require inspections to validate compliance. So...

    Catalytic converters

You are close. 1975. I’ve parted out a few A body cars. The ‘75 models first got the converters and a different floorpan with a bulge to allow clearance around it.

    Catalytic converters

False. Your memory is failing you. Even in California, the trucks were the last to get converters. You never heard of the Little Red Express truck? The 1978 model year was the last year that trucks were built without catalytic converters. 1979 was a sad year. No more big blocks and every truck...

    Got my Dougs Headers in!!

TTI has been the pinnacle of production shop headers but I have been annoyed for some time at their pricing. Yeah, I know that they are made in America. That means that they will cost more. What gets to me is that many of their products are from patterns that they developed LONG ago.

Cops in Michigan apparently dont like loud 273 exhaust

The title should have read.... "Cops in Michigan apparently DIDN'T like loud 273 exhaust" ! You surprised me though, thinking you were posting something recent.

    Muffler question- flowmaster vs. ?

The closest that I can think of are some generics that my local Muffler Monkey put on a 78 Trail Duster I had a few years ago. They looked just like Flowmasters on the outside and sounded very similar. Porter Muffler on Atlantic in Roseville has been my exhaust guy since 2001.

    Header Power Steering box ?'s

Manual steering may help. ALL Mopar rear wheel drive cars since 1957 used a similar style, similar size steering box. Are you willing to spend $900 to swap to a new Borgeson steering box unit? Put dents in the tubes where you need the clearance. Dyno tests have shown that even with some pipes...

    Muffler options ?....

The man has a point. Tailpipes make a HUGE difference. The turndowns cause sound waves to reverberate from the pavement to the trunk. The trunk is like a huge echo chamber. I had a 2002 Ram 1500 that I lowered. The stock pipe was in the way so temporarily, I cut off the pipe before the axle...

Using Hi Po Exhaust manifolds on duster with power steering

The LA series left hand exhaust manifolds all seem to have that upswept design where they exit the exhaust port at the head and go UP at about a 45 degree angle before turning rearward. You can thank "rear steer" for that. The steering box being mounted behind the front axle centerline will do...

You guys got me scared of tti headers!

Hot Rod magazine did a dyno test on how the "dents and dimples" we sometimes put in headers affect power. I was shocked to learn that it made very little difference even when the pipes were smashed to the point where they were half crushed! I know, nobody wants to take a hammer to a set of $...

    340 Manifolds on 318

It might only be 4 HP, maybe 5. Mopar Muscle magazine did a manifold test years back and gained 7 HP on a mild 360. That gain would be greater with more cam, more compression and more cubic inches. If you did this for appearances, that is another matter.

Are headers worth it for me?

Every car or 2wd truck that I own or have owned is lower than stock! The Hedman 78050 pipes that are the most common do hang well below the oil pan and K member. TTIs and Dougs's....Yeah, they are the best but if you are not willing to spend the $$$, you'll have to be willing to deal with the...

Are headers worth it for me?

Your gearing and cubic inches will minimize the gains that headers usually get you. You'll still make a few HP but a 3.55 or 3.91 gear and a 340/360 would see 20 HP or more. Hedman headers hang low too. I've used them only because they were either given to me or bought CHEAP. You'll still have...

    340/360 passengers side exhaust manifold

The better choice would be to use a 5.2 or a 5.9 Magnum RH manifold. The outlets are bigger and they exit behind the oil filter. The outlet eliminates 2 bends on the exhaust pipe which improves flow as well.
