73 duster front brakes locking up when coming to a stop.

I don't know about that. A guy I knew that once lived in this: He owned this car: One time we were heading south to go to the annual Spring Fling in Van Nuys, CA. He drove his car, I drove this: We stopped for gas and I saw grease coming out of the front hub on the right side. He...

Early A, 9”……if it was yours, take $ out of the equation, whats the best solution for brakes

It is personal taste, that is for sure. I do like the steelies and hubcaps on early to mid 60s cars but not so much for the say...69 and later cars that had more exterior trim and garnish. I think the rallye and road wheel are excellent on just about anything from the mid 60s and later.

If my vote counts Zach, I like the 15" wheels painted body color.

Early A, 9”……if it was yours, take $ out of the equation, whats the best solution for brakes

I'd skip the rear disc brakes. A disc/drum setup is more than adequate, simple and easy to find. Rear discs are great for looks and ease of service but unless you're properly proportioned to the rest of the system, they are dead weight. The reason new cars have 4 wheel discs is partly weight...

'72 Scamp Can I just fix the front brakes to get it home?

That is a misleading statistic. MOST of our travels are close to home so naturally, most of the accidents will be too. Did you know that most vehicle accidents occur to automobile drivers? There are MORE cars being driven than motorcycles or skateboards!

'72 Scamp Can I just fix the front brakes to get it home?

For the record, the thing that some people are calling the "emergency brake" is NOT actually known as that. It is a Parking Brake in all of the factory literature and even written on the handle. It engages one of the brake shoes on each rear wheel and provides vey little actual braking in panic...

Well, ****...I do agree with all of that.

bigger rear disc in rear than front a problem I assume?

Before I optimized my combination, I had Cordoba 11.75” front discs, Dr Diff/Cobra 11.7” rear discs but the caliper sizes were vastly different. Fronts were the 2.75” single piston design used from 1976 onward. The rears were 1.5” single piston. I was at a 3.3 to 1 ratio and while the car...

bigger rear disc in rear than front a problem I assume?

I agree that the lever arm of a larger rotor does have an impact but if a tiny caliper is pinching a huge rotor, I don’t see the rotor size slowing the wheel any faster. A tweeker with a 3 foot breaker bar won’t crack a nut loose quicker than I could with a standard ratchet. There is a...

bigger rear disc in rear than front a problem I assume?

Finally, someone understands and offers to chime in. You could have rear rotors twice the size of the front and it wouldn't matter as long as the caliper size is proportioned right. A common guideline for a 4 wheel disc system in a well handling car is a 2 to 1 brake bias, front to rear. You...

Im convinced there is so much bullshit with these companies Right stuff is a joke

Most of the time, you will with a 4 wheel disc arrangement given the large size of the caliper pistons. I ran one for years. It was not a problem but my rear brakes had a small caliper size. A larger bore requires moving a greater volume of fluid but if you keep an eye on the fluid level, it...

'73 up drum to disc conversion track width change

That TSB states a 3.6” difference between the front and rear track? I knew the front was wider but that is a stupid example of engineering. I have put the 68-70 B housing in Dusters a few times and it really evens it all out nicely. 3.6 inches??? What the heck ???

'73 up drum to disc conversion track width change

No, not entirely true. The B body axle had the spring mounts at 44” center to center. The A body is 43”. I’ve heard of dudes just spreading the leaf springs to mount a B axle but to me, that is a hack move for dudes that don’t have a welder.

'73 up drum to disc conversion track width change

Yes. Dusters and Dart Sports always look weird when fitted with stock width wheels because of this. The bulging quarter panels make the rear wheels look recessed. The front track got wider with the front disc brakes and actually looked good while the rear wheels tucked way in looked like a big...

'73 up brake distribution block/proportioning valve question

This is written like Richard Ehrenberg writes and just like him, it only tells part of the story. True, the 4 wheel drum cars do NOT have a proportioning valve but they DO have a distribution block where all the lines converge. To some, they might think these are the same thing. Telling the...

Members with 4 wheel disc systems: Can you lock your wheels?

Sorry, guys....I never closed this one out. I did order a 1966-70 B body dual diaphragm booster from Dr Diff and swapped it in a couple weeks ago. Holeeee crap, the car stops great now. I was finally able to skid the front tires on dry pavement. The pedal effort is slightly reduced but the brake...

Pedal Link Length - A Body vs B Body - Are they the Same Length?

The 66-70 B body booster uses a reduction linkage under the dash like this: This pushrod attaches to the brake pedal arm: The 67-72 A body uses a different design. The 73-76 A body uses a setup like this: It uses a standoff bracket to place the assembly away from the firewall to make...

Just a suggestion for the future: When you need help with a problem on a car forum, you need to provide all the information regarding the problem. 4 piston brembos, Master cylinder, proportioning valve confusion.

I don't drive the car in the rain. The underside is not show car perfect but it is sort of detailed. Out here in California, it rains in the Winter almost exclusively. It is highly unusual to get rain in May through November.

4 piston brembos, Master cylinder, proportioning valve confusion.

The purpose of a proportioning valve is to allow full pressure to the front and to reduce it to the rear. It can be more complicated but that is the general function of them. 4 wheel drum cars had NO proportioning...they were designed so that the wheel cylinders at each end were engineered with...

4 piston brembos, Master cylinder, proportioning valve confusion.

Advising a member with a street car using your experience that applies to a race car is an apples and oranges issue. Race cars use custom everything. You can make the brake pedal ratio whatever you want. Stock based street cars use mostly stock equipment. I measured mine and was surprised to be...

Good luck getting through. Since Covid, the man seems to be email only. Maybe he lost some employees or something but I've had no luck with calls. He is good at responding to emails. Years back, the guy would talk my ear off to the point where I wondered how he had so much time to talk to me.

4 piston brembos, Master cylinder, proportioning valve confusion.

Uhhh.... UNboosted master cylinders are often a poor choice for a 4 wheel disc arrangement because the calipers need more force than the driver can provide. The booster makes it possible. I have tried 4 different master cylinder sizes when I've tried to make a manual MC work with 4 wheel...

Members with 4 wheel disc systems: Can you lock your wheels?

My 2007 Ram is anti-lock on the rear only. I've skidded the fronts before while feeling that ABS pulse in the brake pedal that is the system cycling pressure at the rear. Every classic vehicle that I have except this Charger has the ability to skid the tires. This car does stop well but it isn't...
