Rotors available (for now) for K-H disc brake cars

Slight taper to the hat. I should be able to dig out a used rotor this weekend. Here's a few digital photos off my computer Search saves me from digging through my files for the rotors that I had to return to NAPA in 1992. Bendix PRT 1054. The hat casting was egg or cam shaped. Only hit...

Rotors available (for now) for K-H disc brake cars

That's too bad. I was assuming that this was some company's answer to the casting issue which goes back at least two decades now. The problem seems to be there is only one factory casting these things. Then the different brands buy them and finish (or not) them to various quality levels. I...

Source for master cylinder to Prop valve pre bent lines?

Just so you get the right lines know that in '69 the proportioning valve is after the brake tee ( which Chrysler began calling the safety switch). https://www.web.imperialclub.info/Repair/Lit/Master/232/Page07.htm Starting Jan 1970, the safety switch and proportioning valve were combined...

'72 Scamp Can I just fix the front brakes to get it home?

Let me add there is a red flag in what you wrote. It reveals someone made some weird modification to the '72 or you didn't open the MC cover. there's many variations on braking systems. there's no such division as 'modern' or 'old'. Basic principles are the same, mechanically and hydraulics...

Power Disc Brakes not working on hard stop?

Well if you're sure everything is correct and you want to tell me how to set up an adjustable proportioning valve, its pretty hard to know what to suggest beyond what I posted above. Go through each part of the system and test and check. Between the FSM and the Master Tech Conference there is...

Power Disc Brakes not working on hard stop?

I don't know if you want to hear this, but thats not it. There is no reason in the world that if the hydraulic pressure was applied to pads and rotors in good condtion, they would not be able to lock up the front wheels. Same brake system (minus the booster) works well on my car and many...

    Performance oriented brake pad options

Not really. The rating system is very coarse and doesn't address subtleties of braking response. For those manufacturers participating it was supposed to provide a level of information for the technician that they shoe or pad was in the same ballpark as the originals. For extreme example one...

Throw one more on the pile. Using a '69 up adjuster with a '68 down system, or vis-a-versa. https://www.web.imperialclub.info/Repair/Lit/Master/index.htm Grease or oil. Any grease or oil on the lining can cause lock up. Has sent me into a 180 while autocrossing on several occassions - which...

'73 up brake distribution block/proportioning valve question

I don't see any thign to argue about here. It was all important info for MichicanPat since it turns out that the car is a '76 model, and '76 has a number of differences that is worth knowing about. Furthermore, I think its good for @michiganpat to know that the replacement parts from the parts...

Master cylinder for Front disc brakes on 67 Barracuda

There's at least two companies that do sleeving. As far as kits for ones that do not have bore damage, like everything these days, it may take a little more hunting. I suggest starting with the OE part numbers, but also asking around. Places like Kanter and Northwest autoparts, although very...

Master cylinder for Front disc brakes on 67 Barracuda

What has happened is the big aftermarket companies like A1 Cardone figured out they could resell drum brake master cylinders as disk/drum masters by removing the residual valve on the rear port (to front brakes). It works good enough for most of the time. Now what happens as the pads wear is the...

Master cylinder for Front disc brakes on 67 Barracuda

Sure you can buy the correct master. Just not from a typical parts store or anyone getting their parts from companies like Cardone. if you find a used one its almost certainly going to be cheaper than a correct NORS or NOS, even if it needs sleeving. Check the tables out in the article linked...

Wondering if anyone can help with info disc brake prop. valve.

Its the other way around. The residual valve is in the drum brake circuit because the springs apply pressure on the wheel cylinders. The 'metering valve', aka 'hold off valve' is to slightly delay the front brakes so they don't lock up on initial application when braking on slick surfaces.

Wondering if anyone can help with info disc brake prop. valve.

The B-body combination valve includes a metering valve in the front line. The A body combination valve without lines did not have a metering valve in the factroy system. AFAIK the 'knee point' for both valves is the same, although the proportioning may be slightly different above the knee point...

Rotors available (for now) for K-H disc brake cars

Right now? New? Seems from this thread that many places are out of stock again. Found a Source for 10” rear drums with 1-3/4” shoe Can try the various part numbers in ebay or ask your local store (if there is one) to see if their warehouses have them. That guy from around NY, screen name...

Rotors available (for now) for K-H disc brake cars

This problem has been around since at least the late 1990s. I probably still have the return reciept. Instead of that mold being tossed, it seems to be the only mold now being used for casting. Probably due to the limited number of foundries casting rotors. So on a newish rotor, we must...

    10 x 1.75 brake shoe differences.

Dana. The anchoring point looks chewed up on the left shoe frame. The left shoe looks to be a 331. The right shoe could be a 256 (correct for '67) or something else. Should be a stamp somewhere on them. ???

KH disk front 83/4 rear, prop valve and master cylinder brake line question

The proportioning valve doesn't begin to play a role until line pressure is up around 300 psi. or something like that. Its in the pamplets I linked to above. They also explain the concept and why its used so I'm not going to repeat it here. Whom am I anyway? Some guy on a keyboard. Take it...

KH disk front 83/4 rear, prop valve and master cylinder brake line question

Yes A larger resevoir is recommended because as the pads wear, the piston starting positions move outward. A couple routes you can follow: Pre-67 https://www.web.imperialclub.info/Repair/Lit/Master/219/Page06.htm Or '67 up tandem Master...

    2 different 10x1 3/4, 8 3/4 backing plates?

Its another case of one size will fit close enough that most buyers won't know. Those are 331 shoes introduced in '69. You might want to knock the pin out to be sure it doesn't interfere. 1968 used FMSI frame number 288; 1967 and earlier used 256, although the Ford 151 is very close. Do the...

    2 different 10x1 3/4, 8 3/4 backing plates?

Dana this is the first I've had someone point out difference in nom 1.75 x 10 backing plates. I switched my '67 over to '69 hardware and shoes. AFAIK that (the adjuster hardware) is the only thing that needs to be consistant. You can even get away with the 331 shoe frame on an earlier system...

    2 different 10x1 3/4, 8 3/4 backing plates?

Change in '68 to the tabbed shoes. Changed again in '69 to tabbed shoe and reversed the adjusters for the new self-adjusting mechanism. Look in the the MTSC and the shop manuals to see which plates match the ones you got. The piston retaining tabs should be pretty easy to pick out in the photos.

    Replacing Master Cylinder

Hope you saved it. Even if it needs a rebuild, some one will want it. Yup. That's Kanter. They must have a small stock of them. I'd have to check what I paid but they may have slowly been bumping up the asking price on them over the past few years, but that's it. Pretty much a Chrysler p/n...
