What I do is relocate the orange wire. Make it up outside or beside the OEM connector with male and female spade terminals. This allows their black wire to dead end where it is. If/when it needs the same switch again... no questions.

You should have a brown and a blue at the ballast resistor. One is hot in start, the other hot in run. Most simply twist these 2 wires together for aftermarket ignition with e-coil. Those don't require a ballast resistor/reduced coil voltage in run.

Had same sudden failure once, a long time ago. Ballast resistor had burned open. A little piece of a hose clamp between those female terminals bypassed the resistor for the to drive to the part store. No resistor for long term could overheat / damage the coil.

I've looked at 96 Jeep Cherokee fuel tank just briefly and suspected it would go under the A-body, straps and all but only if the trunk floor/spare tire well was totally redone to flat like the back of the Jeep is. The floor may need to be raised a few inches also. I hoped to try this...

I hope to use the pump sender assembly from a Jeep Cherokee too but in a different method to the madness. I'll delete the spare tire well and mount the entire fuel tank from the Jeep underneath. Spare doesn't fit in the well anyway. Ample trunk space for a spare. It comes from a 90 Town Car...
