    Double pump brakes

If the same fault shows up again, buy a master cylinder. They do bypass internally at random. Works fine for days then suddenly the pedal goes to the floor. A quick "pump again" response makes brakes. I've aways called this event "warning shots" fired by a failing master cylinder. I don't...

    9" Rear Drums

My most recent need for brake renew was wifes 2011 RAV4. I found I could buy fancy new drilled and slotted rotors with new modern material pads included from Ebay with far less time and effort than having the OEM rotors turned and buying pads from a brick-and-mortar store. Last tire store I...

    73+ Caliper install

My why? It's all about the next owner of the vehicle. They need a hose for 73 disc brakes... order that and it works. They need a left side caliper...order that and it works ( they need only to figure out how to bleed it ). We are building Frankensteins of these 50+ year old vehicles. If you'll...

    73+ Caliper install

IF my memory serves ( and I've seen too much to remember everything ), there is a way to use the 73 lines you have. If you switch the calipers left and right the line will be at top and bleeder will be at the bottom. To bleed the calipers you'll remove them from the mount and lay them upside on...

    73+ Caliper install

73 and later have the stabilizer bar routed theough the middle of the K member. No caliper conflict there. Pre 73 have a stabilizer bar that routes around the front of the K member (low hanging triangular forward mounts too). 73 and later spindles and calipers at forward position with that pre...

    Brake lights on

I think the 74 mopar still has fixed switch in adjustable bracket. The screw to loosen and move the bracket is a pain to get to. Thats why many owners change to the adjustable switch. The bracket does bend a little over time. If its bent enough the smaller button in the threaded switch can miss...

    Bench bleeding help

I use the vehicles push rod to bench bleed a master cylinder in my vise. A piece of 2X4 about a foot long, wrapped in shop towels, held against my chest. Push rod against that. Left hand grabs back of the vise. Lean in and away to stoke it! Too easy. Power brake master cylinder is same except a...

    Idiot Oil Light

Only 9 to 11 lbs of oil pressure is req'd to turn the warning lamp off. A oil gauge may show you very low oil pressure at all times. Good luck with it.

What kind of brakes do we have? Confused...

Your original lug studs were 7/16 and left hand threads on left side of vehicle. You now have 1/2 lug studs, right hand thread all around. So even the OEM tire tool had to be changed for the larger lug nuts. Looks like the spindles were swapped left to right which moves the caliper from forward...

what do i need to buy to put new brakes in?

That master cylinder may be correct. Description says it is. The early ones with bolt on top looked very much alike. The drum/drum master cylinder had a shallow reservoir. Disc/drum master cylinder casting was deeper to hold more fluid. Hard to see the difference looking at only one.

what do i need to buy to put new brakes in?

Pic shows kelsey-hayes front disc brakes. They are factory brakes. Kelsey-Hayes made them for Chrysler and Ford. So you need hoses and master cylinder for disc brakes. Those calipers may need rebuild or replace. If you use a c-clamp to push those pistons back into crusty bores, they will stick...

    missmatched brakes 64 gt

Read up on residual pressure valves in master cylinders. I have heard of removing those. You would need cup expanders in the wheel cylinders.

    Brake self-adjuster question?

The adjuster usually works for a time without the thrust washer. Once the linings are worn, adjuster is screwed out farther, spring tension is tighter, adjuster stops working. Adjust paw wears a few teeth off the adjust cog wheel. Lack of washer costs you more money eventually. Inside that end...

    Factory disc brake rotor question

No way to swedge beneath the head of the stud. Looks like they machined a smooth flat for the head of the stud to sit against.

    Drum brake adjusters?

I put a dab of white lithium grease under the floating cap/end. Most adjusters have a thin thrust washer behind that cap. Make sure it hasn't been lost. They dont work well without it. I dont put anything on those threads. That would just cause lining dust to collect on them. More cleaning to do...

    Factory disc brake rotor question

There was a reason for that step down in diameter also. If a spline in hub failed, a stud with oversized spline was available. Hole in rotor did not need to be enlarged to install. New rotors may be coated which puts an end to the rust. You might have the hubs blasted and coated too.

    Removing push rod from MC

I did the same once. A few shims and my ball joint splitter separated it. So thats what I use to begin with now. Never had one so tough that I had to hammer the splitter. Just used it as pry bar between shims and vise.

Backing plate seal and stud tool question.

The foam is porous. It compresses to much thinner and more dense where bolted and fill voids between the mating parts everywhere else. Moisture that does get in can evaporate out. Thin sheet metal would probably rust away faster without the foam. After 50+ years, of course there will be some...

    Barracuda 68 brake booster

It would be much easier and less expensive to forfeit the vacuum booster. Manual brakes with the right master cylinder bore works about the same.

The retaining ring is rubber. probably hard as a rock. You could burn it out but it will stink.

Brake line adaptor, 67 Dart Gt, original KH disc

Standard equipment was 9 inch or 10 inch drum brakes all around. Kelsey Hayes disc brakes are aftermarket brand produced for Chrysler and Ford. Where a different master cylinder is required for something different from standard brakes, line adapters may be factory installed.

Valiant to Duster disc brake/rear brake swap

I dont know if anyone makes adapter mounts to put a slant 6 on a V8 K. I would leave the Duster as is and drive it while I pull the 318 and rebuild it, the trans, and the suspension as if the Valiant was going to be my next driver. Once its all done, running and driving like a new one, all of it...

That varies with year model/type of spindle. Some had threaded holes in the spindle where others have through bolts with nuts.

Correct Disc Brake Caliper for 68’ Dart

Someone will correct me if i'm wrong but I think these bumps are the travel stops. If its all together right and both sides turning together under the car nothing else contacts. Of course you can get some strange conflicts with it laying in the floor.
