Replaced fuel pump, still not running…

Old standing fuel in the bowl will cause needle to stick. I've had to tap on the front of a 2 brl. with a screwdriver handle every time I attempted to start an old car that sat here for several years, to let it run a while.

    Breather to air cleaner

The early breather cap does have an element inside but its nothing more than fiberglass mesh. Small particles can pass through it. With enough heat and age the fiberglass can crumble to become the small whisker like debris/particles in the engine. Todays paper air filters and foam crankcase...

69 Cuda which sending unit do I need?

9 volts through an OEM gauge is nearly twice too much and will very likely kill the gauge. Closest to OEM senders shape is sold for A-100 van. It still wont be right at the dash but at least closer. In the end you'll need a addon product such as meter match to calibrate sender resistance to...

    FUEL GUAGE PROBLEM

I don't have any experience with products from RTE. Like you, I find them the most advertised all over the interweb including this forum. One of the reasons is ease of installation. It will plug into the back of a standard inst' panel just like OEM. A product called "meter match" was very...

    FUEL GUAGE PROBLEM

I can't see all/know all from here. I can only tell you what I know and what I have seen... The nichrome wire that is wound on the bi-metal inside the thermal guage has a spiral wound fiberglass insulation that is so fine it can hardly be seen. It should be a pale yellowish color. This...

    FUEL GUAGE PROBLEM

I used a decade resistance bank which allowed me the test and calibrate much more than the service techs 3 position tester. That doesn't mean I could force or alter the aftermarkets linear sender to function like the OEM non-linear sender. What I did know.., all the gauges operate on the same...

    FUEL GUAGE PROBLEM

There should be voltage at all sender wires. OEM mechanical regulator produced a pulse voltage through the gauge windings to fuel and temp senders. Oil sender also if there is an oil gauge. That would show 2.X to 3.x VDC on analog meter that averaged about 5 volts. A digital meter wont show more...

340 Dart - Fuel Filter location

The filter did once lay horizontally on top of the intake just before the carburetor. When they changed to the unleaded lower octane fuel (1973 I think), the filter moved to vertical down low, right after the pump. Less fuel percolation. If you go this route you'll need the later model pump due...

    FUEL Gauge

My best guess is this is not a rte or any solid state regulator but just a OEM mechanical limiter. Wild needle swings are a symptom of failing mechanical limiters. I've seen the same needle swing in temp gauges where the panel had only the 2 gauges. The temp needle would swing to max then fall...

    Fuel tank/sender question

I have never used one of those wrenches. I have a stick of 1/2" dia brass about 14" long. That and a small hammer gets the job done.

    Fuel tank/sender question

Last time I had to change a failed sender, I jacked up only the driver's side of the car high as I could get it. Whatever amount of fuel that was left in the tank went away from me and where I was working.

    Fuel filter, preference?

In 72 or 3, the factory off the top of the intake. placed it beside the timing cover below the alternator so the fan could blow at it and keep it cooler. Plus it stands vertical so no air bubble in it.

    Demon Electric choke

That factory choke controller got its switched 12 volts from the same blue wire, only switched 12 volts in the engine bay.

    Demon Electric choke

Inside that choke controller are 2 of what is inside the mechanical gauge voltage limiters, resistor wire wrapped on bimetal beams. It controlled the voltage to a heating element like what is on a range. The thing wasn't weather tight so it could very well be rotten inside. FSM should say how to...

    Sending unit

It is closer to physical shape of OEM sender for a-body but the van tank was shaped different from a-body also. Please let us know how accurate it is in the a-body tank.

Factory senders make all the difference

Yeah, My 67 had OEM sender when I bought it. I really didn't know how well it worked during my 2854 mile drive home because every time I needed coffee or go pee I went ahead and topped of the tank, checked oil, etc... This sweety had been on this side of the country only from Oct. to Apr...

Factory senders make all the difference

Even if the tubular sock is on the bottom of the tank, 2 gallons may not cover it when the tank is at an angle. My 67 shut down once years ago, ended up half way around a blind curve with a rear corner stilcking out in the rural 50 mph 2 lane. A panic situation I wouldn't want anyone to...

    Spectra fuel sending unit

My aftermarket sender stopped working after some years. Its issue was a hole in the float. When float fills and sinks gauge stays at empty , not come and go. Entire new sender from Rockauto didn't cost much more than a new float and seal would have cost. When my gauge gets down near empty...

Gas Tank Bracket on trunk floor for 73 Duster

2 little ears you imagined wouldn't work. The large piece is reinforcement to the sheet metal to hold the tank up and the spare down. They are both quite heavy.

Tanks inc Tank Vent Question '68 barracuda

Today pumps are a lot faster than the ding, ding, ding, pumps of yesteryear. The station attendant could clean the windshield and check the oil before the tank was filled. "That will be 2.60 and here's your free oven mitt" LOL

74 Scamp /6, hilarious, infuriating, interesting, all at one time

I've seen several Ford 302 with the crankcase full of fuel. I forget the exact numbers but at least 4 of those with more that 80K miles on them came apart a short time later. The bearings get washed too clean. Good luck with it.

    Fuel sender

Special tools are nice to have if you use them often enough to justify the cost. I would have used a fuel sender wrench 4 times since 1980. The proper tools, line wrenches for example, a must have whether we use them often or not. Anyway... A flat end brass drift and small hammer will remove and...

    J hook mounts

Gas Tank Braces | AMD 830-1370 This is where the J-bolts attach. At the other end of strap, as far as I know, is just flat piece of plate with a hole in it for strengthening. I dont think aftermarket has that. Easy enough to make.

Doesn't appear to be getting fuel

Vapor lock? If the fuel is boiling, vapor pressure beyond the pump can become higher than the pump relief. Liquid fuel wont flow again until enough pressure escapes through bowl vent, etc... I've watched a see through filter mounted horizontally at the carb empty and fill with liquid fuel in...

    fuel tank sender unit

A sender with a ground wire on it doesn't require the ground jumper on the fuel line. The sender doesn't have the same stud for push on positive connector that we have either. I wish we had seen if this sender is exact reproduction of OEM before it was installed.

    fuel leak from pump outlet

On my 67, removed the alternator. Fuel pump is easy enough. On my 73 with a/c, that alternator bracket was in the way as much as the alternator. Took it off also. I dont recall if I lost coolant at those bolts. Too long ago. My mind worked a lot better back then. I might have drained some...

    No fuel after start up

Several years ago, Mine worked perfect when cold but after the engine warmed up I could watch the filter empty then refill in cycles. The engine would go lean and stumble for a few seconds. I changed the sock, the rubber lines, and the fuel pump. No change. It took me a while to realize the...

No room for new throttle shaft bushing

You could be making a mountain out of a mole hill. Isn't there plenty of bushing support beyond the little step on outside of casting? Only part of bushing that isn't supported is about the size of a finger nail clipping?
