    360 running hot

Just a little update. I'm rebuilding the dish washer, then back to the car. The door switch/lock is a plastic piece of crap. I ordered a new replacement. Back to the car,I have the MP performance dist. I'll set the timing on the mechanical to come in at 34*/ 3600. and back off the initial to 12*...

    360 running hot

I was at 3k because that motor runs so sweet there. I'll drop the initial to 12 and see what happens. The car feels really good at around 70+> The gears are 3:23s and it has a 727 right now. 4spd going in this winter I hope. The radiator is a 22" 2 core, a little small I know. I had the original...

    360 running hot

It didn't boil over but hit the H on the gauge. Probably 210 to 215. Never did that before.

    360 running hot

I rebuilt a 90 360, new rods, KB107 pistons and old crank. The crank journals showed no wear. It has fine oil pressure, runs great and will idle for hours and not overheat. It has about 200 miles on it plus more then a few hours idling. The heads are new magnums, the block was well cleaned at...

    318 Running Really Hot

My 67 Barracuda new from the factory would belch some coolant after climbing the hill my future wife lived on. It always ran about 2/3's up the scale on the gauge. It now runs about 1/3 up the scale (new motor and sender) but measures 185 with the thermal gun. Go to harbor freight and get one...

    Heater core

All of the above with just one more suggestion, it would be a good idea to replace all of the antifreeze. It's a great time to do the thermostat and new antifreeze, you'll be ready for this summer. Don't forget to check your hoses.

Question...what is the normal running temp for a 1972 340

I would think 185+/- a few degrees. What temperature is your thermostat set for, 195*??

Does anyone think it is the radiator besides me?

Look, this is a wild shot but. This happened to me with a Furd V-6 wagon. I had the radiator cleaned, replaced ..all the things you did. It turned out the fan was the wrong one. It was running backwards. The PO had trouble and replaced it with a flex fan, it blew instead of sucked..

    Heater control

My cables aren't color coded, they are on a 67 Barracuda. The top ones are for heat/defrost you can trace these to the top rear (front) of the heater box. The bottom opens the door to the heater core, it lets heat from the heater into the cabin. I think that one goes to the door just to the...

    Heater control

Great idea! This started out as a heater core replacement and heater box referb. While I had it apart I changed the voltage regulator for the gauges (old one was going) and re did the clutch pivot. Then I saw the damage to the heater control. I got everything working fine now and it's back...

    Heater control

I'm pretty sure they are the same. I have the dash apart to change the voltage regulator and want to replace this before I put it back together. This is the ralleye dash but I think they are all the same (air equiped cars are different).

    Heater control

I'm looking for the nylon cams for the heater control. Here's a picture of the control and you can see the broken one on the left. This is from a 67 barracuda

    Heater core

Thanks to all, it's back together now with the new heater core. It was filled with leaves and junk and it's garage kept! I'm going to replace the heater hoses while I'm at it. It wasn't that bad!

    Heater core

I started the Barracuda today and found I need a new heater core, it drools! I replaced it back in the 70's and remember it was a PITA. It's been a while so is there a easy way or if not how about somebody walk me through it. HELP

Is it normal for a car with no overflow to dump a bit of antifreeze after a day

Thats why they put in overflow tanks. My 67 used to do it if I parked facing down hill.

    Mopar Viscous fan??

If I remember right, there are 2 types. One uses silicon based liquid sort of like a torque convertor, the other uses a thermostatic control built into the hub. That might have a whirring sound as it grabs. I used the silicon based hub.

    Mopar Viscous fan??

I use one on my car, it's quiet as the regular stock one. I picked it up at a swap meet and replaced the clutch with a new unit. I also use a shroud and that car stays cool!! It's a 9 to 1, 318 with a Comp cam..HM 260. It fit well but is a little close to the radiator. As far as HP, the car does...

    Murphys Law

Had a 84 Furd ltd wagon that always ran hot, it was new and Furd insisted that nothing was wrong. It had a bad cam lobe and lifter, replaced those and put in a oversized radiator...topped it all off with new flex fan. It idled nice and ran hot...I did it too!
