I would like to find that line for each. I would like to "personally" know okay with the way I drive this engine I need to replace the bearings after 1 season or 2 seasons or okay, I can push her a little more etc. I want to learn those things the race teams learn by DOING

So then would this mean that having the power lower with a redline of 6500 but power a little lower would make for an engine that would have better durability long term in comparisons to say a engine that has redline at 7-8k? My engine science knowledge is limited to going fast, but I am re...

SB Road Racing/Nascar/Sprint Car/Reving BUDGET BUILD

Perfect example of why I want to learn how the car reacts before throwing more power at it. I have the idea setup for suspension and I am still becoming familiar with oversteer and understeer, but I don't want to add power into the mix until I am comfortable and practically bored of more power...

SB Road Racing/Nascar/Sprint Car/Reving BUDGET BUILD

I just loaded up on a bunch of classic nasar and carroll smith books etc. The goal is to track the progress of the car from start to finish so I can tune the brakes/suspension as I increase the power. The eventual goal is to get this little ol grandma car to compete with something off the...

so in the end the lower rpm and higher rpm power is really just because of the displacement and or class rules?

SB Road Racing/Nascar/Sprint Car/Reving BUDGET BUILD

This is a great build, but definitely on the upper budget side. I do like the information in there though about the lifter and oil galleys to help with the wear over time. I haven't read the sticky, but this seems to be possibly part of what is in there. All great ideas!

Here is a question for ALL of you. What are the pros and cons of making power in HIGHER RPM vs the pros and cons of making power in the LOWER RPM range? (Aside from racing class rules)

SB Road Racing/Nascar/Sprint Car/Reving BUDGET BUILD

haha yes, this is another factor in me wanting to start with something more familiar (carb). This is a whole different car from when I first and last drove it. So I would like to start off with an engine I can tune without a computer and just focus in on the suspension and rest of the car first...

I don't mind needing more RPM. Also this engine will be used later on in a drag car or circle track car so ALL knowledge that I gain during this process will help me down the road, I have just been away from hot rodding for so long that I am in the process of learning what most of you have...

SB Road Racing/Nascar/Sprint Car/Reving BUDGET BUILD

I undertstand. Here is the thing that I think you might have missed in part. The end goal is to have an engine that can rev to 7K Redline. I have a 6.4 that makes the power 500-600WHP, but is above my driving capabilities. I also have thought about the 5.7, but it's still fully electronic...

Yes, I understand this as a miata with low power can run circles around some other cars because they can carry the weight through turns (go kart). This car has full coil over front and rear with watts link rear. The car has all of the UST Weld on items as well and a full road race inspired cage

This is some good math. My main track would be Laguna Seca, then there is a willow springs, button willow and sears point. I greatly appreciate your math as I had not gotten to this level of calculations yet. When I say 300-400hp I mean WHP. I am looking at the power to weight ratio that would...

I should have been more clear. This won't be a race "only" car. I am looking to build an engine from stock to full or mostly aftermarket part and enjoy the process of going from stock to fully modified or not. When I say "budget" I mean, I would like to build an engine, regardless of how many...

Thank you and that makes perfect sense. And I like this route idea as well because the torque down low will be there with the longer stroke, I was just thinking that the shorter stroke would be better and quicker to get the power up high, but this is just my thoughts

Thank You, this is good advice and information to think about. The other part of this is, I really want to try and do things like the porting etc myself and learn by trying. I want to try and throw this engine together like you mentioned and just replace the critical parts like bearings and...

Yes, everything on the car has been figured out already. The car is just missing some items to get it to a point where it can be assembled. I just had a change of heart about learning how the car feels with a carb based engine/ less power before stepping up and over powering the car for my...

Thank You. I completely understand that it will be a whole process of relearning the car as I add more power, but here is the main thing. This car isn't anything like the first time it was built. Originally it was a SS Spring 275 tire with rake and stock front suspension. Now I have the Gerst...

Thank You, this is what I was thinking and with the magnum style setup, I can use some cheby things like rockers. This is my idea of either the LA or Magnum. I know that I can always have LA intakes drilled for magnum heads too. But the other benefit of the magnum is the roller cam and oil...

SB Road Racing/Nascar/Sprint Car/Reving BUDGET BUILD

Yeah, I didn't provide much information at the start, I was just hoping to keep the the topic on the SB, but that's okay. That's what I was thinking, but with the longer stroke of the 5.9, I know that it may not be the best for higher RPMS. I do know that with more displacement we don't need...

The Gen3 I have isn't stock. IT's a 6.4 with cam, intake work and more, so close to 5-600 whp. And Again, I am not comfortable with driving that much power in a light car "yet". I have driven a GT2 RS which has like 600-700whp, but again this is a computer assisted car, with electronic...

You're 100% on point. Here's the thing. The last time this car was driving it was a 410 stroker and a straightline car. I had no idea at that and still don't on how this car "handles" the Gen3 does everything in one full swoop, but in all honestly it's too much more my driving ability currently...

Understood. As mentioned in the original post. I have 4.10 rear gears and a 6 speed. I don't need a lot of power to start with 300-400hp in the higher 6-7k range if possible to do on a budget or with stock parts would be the goal. I know that closed chambered 302 heads could get the compression...

Got it. Low end umph. But, doesn't that mean that it's not a very top end kind of power? I will clarify in the above post, but this car will be around 3000lbs

SB Road Racing/Nascar/Sprint Car/Reving BUDGET BUILD

Correct, I did say this. Also, looking for something that will have a good high RPM limit in the end. So whatever engine I start with, it would be good for it to have a good ending point without having to switch blocks in order to make the power or RPM's.

haha, so when you recommended the build to me above, is that what your engine was going to do or were you just putting an engine build out there in general? Because now without any context, I am not sure what that engine would be good for lol
