    Whose running a clutch fan

I had a parts car with a 273, AC and no power steering- perfect. It had a shroud, a seven blade fan with a clutch. Only one I’ve ever seen. I haven’t gotten it on my car yet.

1966 Valiant 273 AC accessory drive - finally

I’ve gotten around to assembling the accessory drive for my ‘66 Valiant to add AC on the 273. Here’s what it looks like. This is a single belt system for the AC that has a separate pulley for tension and another idler pulley for more wrap around the compressor. It was rather confusing sorting...

What pulley for ‘66 273 for AC

What pulley do I need for a ‘66 273 for AC but no power steering?

    A/C Tensioner

I have this for the dealer installed AC. Note the first pulley you show looks like the “idler pulley and runs on the drivers side but on the outside of the belt. The second bracket from Wildcat does not look correct but it may work.

1965 Dodge Dart 273 with A.C. Pulley Questions

I think this is a ‘65 Factory 273 V8 routing with power steering.

    1965 vs 1966 273 AC accessory drive

In this pic it’s called the “compressor roller idler”. The “idler pulley” would be used to adjust the tension. And apparently there are two different designs for the bracket for the idler pulley (see pics of actual brackets in vehicles in this post).

    1965 vs 1966 273 AC accessory drive

Looks like the “roller idler pulley & bracket” that runs on outside of the belt on the driver side ( US) of the engine.

    1965 vs 1966 273 AC accessory drive

There’s not very much belt wrap around the compressor pulley with the two belt system. I surmise that’s why two belts are needed.

    1965 vs 1966 273 AC accessory drive

For ‘66 I think there are TWO (2) different brackets for the tension pulley - and both have the idler pulley. One like this that attaches to the cylinder head: Then there’s another and the tension pulley bracket is attached to the AC compressor bracket like this: And I think it looks...

    Over heating 66 Dart

The ignition timing could be part of your issues. Otherwise it sounds like you need more air through the radiator when the car is not moving. I just sold a seven blade fan from a ‘66 273 and it would be interesting to see if just that would have solved your problems. And the auto trans cooler...

    Coolant options

Original question: 100% water “cools” the best. In other words it takes the most heat out of the engine. Then the questions are: A)Is there enough coolant flow to remove the heat the engine produces? B) Is the coolant rejecting enough heat to the air? This gets difficult to sort out because...

Nice drawing of early A radiator shroud

This pic is from the 1966 Assembly Manual book and shows where the tack welds are on the two shroud pieces. Should be the same for '65.

1965 Dodge Dart 273 with A.C. Pulley Questions

I think the '65 V8s had two belts and '66 V8s had a single belt- could have been a mid-year '65 change at some point. I think the '66 version with one belt & TWO pulleys (a tensioner & an idler) offers better or more belt "wrap" around the AC compressor pulley and also the alternator which would...

    Dealer installed A/C unit

The slant six brackets with pulleys is difficult to locate. The underdash unit looks good. I would be happy to get $200 for it and I think buy it for $200.

66 valiant a/c and heater vacuum valve

Sounds like the two brass fittings from the firewall are the AC lines from the evaporator under the dash. You don’t need to plug them but I would. The long tube on the pass side inner fender is the AC dryer. If you aren’t using it you might be able to find someone to buy it.

    1965 vs 1966 273 AC accessory drive

The routing for the belts is different for ‘65 & ‘66 273 engines. The ‘65 has two belts for the AC compressor & alternator. While the ‘66 uses one belt for AC with two pulleys. This is a pic of a ‘65 Dart on Craigslist & a diagram of a ‘66 dealer installed AC. For ‘66 it looks like they added...

    1965 & 1966 273 AC accessory drive

For the factory AC system on the early A's I've seen two different belt drives. It looks like the earlier ones have two v-belts for the AC compressor and later ones a single belt. I've seen the single belt on some '65 & all '66, possible a mid-'65 change? The '66 has a pulley for belt tension...

What is this AC box for?

I got this a few years ago from someone that originally obtained from an estate, it came with a bunch of other items for '66 Valiant & Barracudas. But it does not look like its for a '66 A-body. It has part number 3502 102 on it if that helps. Then the next questions are who...

    '66 Barracuda AC vacuum switch

Here's the vacuum switch I have from a '66 Barracuda, it's part number 2587564. I've found one almost identical on eBay with part number 3502126 but it has different electrical connectors. Is this a good replacement for my original part?

Driving a long distance in hot weather without AC?!

When I was young nothing was air conditioned but now it seems difficult to not have AC in the car. But a 3 hour drive seems very doable. Our A bodies have pretty good ventilation with the door vent windows and lower vents. The problem will be when traffic backs up and you're baking in the...
