Any tricks to removing a stuck/stubborn/rusted-in place bleeder?

I use 50/50 atf and acetone as well, and it does work well. Sadly neither that nor wax and heat worked and both bleeders snapped off flush. Yep, new calipers.

I picked up a disc drum OE Raybestos rebuild kit on ebay for 11 bucks plus shipping awhile back. Maybe try that.

    MP Brakes disc rotor

Just as a matter of interest on this subject,,, I not long ago wanted to replace the rotors and calipers on my 73 Dart. New reman calipers and Dorman rotors from Auto Zone. Within a month the rotors were warping causing pulsating surges coming to a stop. Took them off and replaced them with the...

    Riddle me this....

I’m running a disc/drum master with four wheel discs, and have for a couple of years with zero problems. Even had to do a hard stop recently when someone pulled out in front of me crossways in the road and stopped. I was doing 45 and really had to lay into it.

    Disc Brake Conversion Failing

Brake fluid or gear oil leak on the shoes can cause a single wheel to lock early.

    Idiot Oil Light

How low does your idle go when you brake hard? Some idle way down on hard braking. This could cause the pressure to be low enough to trigger the light.

    What Lubricant: Wheel Cylinder Pushrod?

The only motor I intentionally destroyed got 2 table spoons of blasting bead.:D I went down to our local yard to see about an aluminum driveshaft that I could have new ends put on and every single shaft was bent to hell from their fork lift.

    Coated Rotors

I completely understand how most think this way, but there are a couple of things to take into account there. One is that assembly plants don’t bed in new brakes because it isn’t financially advantageous to do it. There is one good reason for us to do it. Coming to a full stop and sitting at a...

    Coated Rotors

Coated rotors should only be cleaned well with soap and water before installing. NO scrubbing with harsh cleaners like brake cleaner or scuffing of any kind. You just want any possible oils removed. Also in case you didn’t know already there is a recommended break in procedure for pads and...

Install new master cylinder without bleeding?

I take the master cylinder apart and flat file the cap sealing surface until it’s smooth. Then flush it out and reassemble. It’s worth it to not have it seep all over the master.

Drum Brakes sticking when cold only.

Usually that is a sign of a slave cylinder or axle seal leaking into the brakes.

    Stuck Brake Caliper?

Good call, as if the caliper got hot enough to cook fluid it sure didn’t help the hoses.

    Stuck Brake Caliper?

Sounds to me like you are on top of it. The fluid puking was probably from cooking the fluid. Best to replace both calipers as well as the rotors. About $200

    Line Lock - Summit Brand

I helped one guy on here set his up so he could throw a switch and have his horn button work as his line lock switch. Throw the toggle switch the other way and the horn honks again.

    Line Lock - Summit Brand

I run one and it works perfectly. Let me know if you want your brake lights to work when the lock is active. (Required by law on the street) I can save you a lot of time, money and work with an inexpensive kit that doesn’t require cutting into your brake lines and plumbing in a pressure switch...

    Master cylinder rebuild

I have done a bunch over the years and I can tell you the first thing to check is pitting in the bore. If it’s pitted don’t waste your time. Most are pitted by the time a rebuild is needed.

Just a FYI, if your valve leaks fluid out it will leak air in easier.

A heads up on aftermarket disc kits.

I was fine with drum brakes until I drove my 66 Ranchero with 4 wheel drums through a creek in a headlights off getaway one night and had ZERO brakes for the upcoming corner.:D Discs work when wet where drums ain't worth spit wet.

A heads up on aftermarket disc kits.

On both our setups (one with the kit I posted about above) and my setup being Jeep Cherokee brakes, we had to open the stud holes in the rotors a tiny bit to fit over the large shouldered studs or the rotor wouldn't sit flat on the axle flange. It was such a small amount a person could miss it...

Wheel studs for rear disk brake conversion

Dorman Part # 610-446.1 1/2 x 20 x 2 inch long. These studs give you back your length that the disc takes up. And you are correct about the stud shoulders holding the disc from seating on the flange. It took a little moto tooling with the 60 grit sanding drums to open the stud holes enough. It...

Mopar Rear End need help to identify

That's definitely a 70's 8.25. (note the two ribs on the housing like your picture) You would have to have the tubes shortened and get new axles plus move the spring perches before it will fit your car. On the upside, Jeep Cherokee's and lots of other newer 4x4 vehicles have sure grip units that...

Dashboard Brake Light Comes On. Why?

Sometimes a good hard stomp on the brake pedal can recenter that switch in the distribution block. (if that's what it is) I disconnect those lights anyway, because I can tell when the brakes don't feel right and don't need a light to tell me.
  28. TrailBeast

Dashboard Brake Light Comes On. Why?

Agreed. To the original poster. That light usually only comes on when the brake system pressure is out of balance and the out of balance pressure causes the valve in the distribution block to shift to one side causing the light to come on. For example, if something is wrong with one end (front...
