What’s the best rods for the build

Try to find a forged crank for $125 or under locally. With people doing stroker kits, there might be some around. And easier to find a balancer for.

Direct Connection Big Block Valve Covers (Rare)?

Because these are drag race pieces. 1/4 mile at a time. Very lightweight valve covers to cut weight.

    Trickflow trackheat or performer rpm

Got more HP and Torque than you can hook up with on the street with either intake.... So bleed some wheelspin off and gain upper range. The X-factor is how each would behave at lower rpm overdrive cruising. I'd think you'd have to try each intake with tuning effort for each. Then compare...

    idler arm interference

No such thing as a 67-76 A-body slant 6 centerlink. Why not use the repro 893 Big Block oil pan? That was actually made for this. Have you checked the motor location? What conversion mounts or conversion K-member are you using? Which brand headers?

    Comp Cam/lifter failure

The two cams were identical part numbers both from Summit just two weeks apart. So probably from the same manufacturing lot made at same time.

Yes. Served it’s purpose well. He caught them very quickly.

    Comp Cam/lifter failure

Multiple lifters/lobes in each case. Used break in oil, pre lubed, comp red lube brush on, pre lubed on run stand just before startup. Rounded lobes, was concave-ing lifters. Less than 10 minutes on run stand. The chicken or the egg kinda deal. He’d have to pipe in to give opinion. Same...

The first machine work for this 440 build

Those title weights are not accurate. That might be the weight of a generic Barracuda with absolute minimum options: slant 6, manual steering, 3 spd manual column shift, 7 1/4 rear, 9" drum manual brakes, bench seat, no radio, etc My non A/C small block with aluminum: heads/intake/water pump...

The first machine work for this 440 build

It will be over 3200 lbs with A/C, 440 steel heads, 8 3/4?…. I have doubts it would actually be 2800 lbs before with 273 and A/C. But, did you weigh it on scales and got 2800 lbs?

    Comp Cam/lifter failure

ns1rm21, had TWO Comp XE 268 big block cam go bad on the run stand within minutes. Summit sent him a second cam and 3 weeks later it went bad on run stand. I sold him a NOS MP cam from the late 90's early 2000's. Been fine for two years now. Bought two Bullet solid cams since. One with...

    R6 440 block?

They said R6 was cast on most of the regular production blocks on the front of the block on #1 cyl side. Nothing special. what are you trying to show in the picture? I don’t see an “R6” and that’s not the front of the block. I just see a 440-6 which IIRC, which the 6th mold.

    522 RB Build

did you heat the valve covers a little before you sprayed them? did you notice increased durability of the paint afterwards? Try baking engine brackets with common cheap spray paint. I think you’ll notice the paint ends up tougher, less imperfections, less fisheyes that you get with today’s...

    Rocker arm recommendations?

I also have a set of comp SB rockers for 10 years now. But less than .525” lift on solid flat tappet. Also 10 years ago I got the Comp cam and lifters BUT a few months ago my buddy had TWO XE268 comp cam and lifters go bad on the run stand immediately. 3 weeks apart. then he put a 20 year old...

    440 m code block

I’d say he showed they could be sold. Norm Kraus is a salesman. Honestly, selling them is harder than building them. In 1968 Chrysler designed Hemi Darts and Barracudas. And built a prototype/mule. Much harder and complex then M-code 69 A-bodies.

Very nice. Wouldn't pay the $8K he has in receipts for a unknown motor laying around though. I wonder if that Victor Intake is too much intake for that combo?? Cam Style: Hydraulic flat tappet Basic Operating RPM Range: 2,500-6,200...
