suggestions on repairing lower rear shock mounts

If the new "pins" are too big, machine them down so they are the same size as the original ones. Then have the new pins welded on.

What are all the daubs of color for? 73 Dart

Document ALL of them. Those are inspection marks put on at the factory. Some of them indicate that certain fasteners were tightened. Others differentiate one part from another on the assembly line. For instance, torsion bars were marked with paint codes so the assembly line workers could...

need a clarification of factory finishes front suspension 73 Dart.

Torsion bars were dipped in gloss black paint and will show drip marks. I think UCAs have been found BOTH in black and bare metal. They were bare metal on my 73 Challenger. The LCAs got dipped in cosmoline up to (but not including)the LBJ hole. Some A-body LCAs have been found black but I...

Steering Wheel Adapter for a 1968 Barracuda ???

Make sure it has a master spline. Some of them don't. IIRC some trucks came with those adapters but didn't have a master spline. They won't fit an A-body steering shaft without one.

Steering Wheel Adapter for a 1968 Barracuda ???

That A-body adapter(Tuff wheel adapter) won't fit a 68 column without a little work. They were designed to fit the 70+ columns. In 1970 the ignition switch was moved from the dash to the column. The columns had to be made larger to fit it inside. The lower metal ring on the bottom of the...

Correct paint color for a 1970 Dart 8 3/4 axle assembly

They used very cheap gloss black paint. It didn't have the same "gloss" as we associate with gloss today. Using a semi-gloss paint will get you close to the factory color. Same goes for K-members. If you look up pictures of Dave Walden's 4-door Valiant, you'll get all the info you need. It...

Does your Duster "float" at highway speed?

Power steering I assume? The stock steering boxes always have that "over boosted" feel to them. You can adjust the pressure put out by the pump by adding spacers to the pressure valve. Some people have said it really changed the feel of the steering. On my stock box, I didn't notice any...

    steering problems

Caster affects how easily the steering wheel returns to center. Did the place that did the alignment give you a readout of all the specs? It could also be a problem with the rebuilt steering box. The link above deals with the wheels turning by themselves with the engine running. That is...

    Defective Idler Arms

Same thing happened to me. The first Moog idler had the center pin in the wrong location compared to the original. Rockauto replaced it. The second Moog had the pin in the correct place but it was locked up. I put it in the vise and worked it back and forth a couple hundred times. It did free...

Found Blue Paint on My Black Torsion Bar ('65 Formula S)

Torsion bars were dipped in paint...they weren't sprayed. After they were dipped, they were set aside to dry and the paint ran down and created "drips/runs" on the bottom side. As was already mentioned, the paint marks were so the line workers could more easily identify a part. Much easier to...

I think I am off by 60*. Torsion bars

With the adjusting bolt backed all the way out and the suspension hanging at full droop, the bars should be closed to lining up with the socket. Sometimes the upper bump stop needs to be removed to get the suspension a little bit lower.

Don’t understand how pitman and idler arm work at spec torque settings?

Maybe your idler arm is bad. I bought a Moog idler for my 68 from Rockauto. The pin wasn't installed into the bearing correctly so Rockauto sent me a replacement. That one had the bearing seized right out of the box. I was able to work it back and forth and it freed up some but it's still...

    UPPER STEERING COLUMN BEARING GREASE?

Here is a thread on the subject. How To Replace your Lower Column Bearing: Better and Cheaper!!! I added the bearing to my 68 column. I don't know if there are differences is the 67 column. I had to slightly modify my shift tube to make the bearing work but it was easy. My car is a floor...

    UPPER STEERING COLUMN BEARING GREASE?

The stock replacement bearings are pretty expensive. Do a search for an ER16 bearing. It's inexpensive and can be used instead of the stock lower bearing. It's sealed and requires no extra lubrication.

When to torque lower control arm pin?

I believe this is the issue... The poly bushing isn't held tight in the LCA like the stock rubber bushing is. Some people have reported that the pin just spins in the K-member when trying to tighten the locking nut. With the pin/bushing installed into the LCA, you can't hold the back side of...

Totaly confused about Strut Rod Bushings and Washer

B and E bodies use the two piece bushing with steel sleeve from the factory. They oriented the washer opposite from Moog. I still don't know why Moog did it that way. It looks goofy. It should work just fine oriented in the factory possition. Did the 73+ k-members use the one piece or two piece...

Totaly confused about Strut Rod Bushings and Washer

I'd just go to RockAuto and look up the correct part for your year. I just bought replacement bushings. I had the original washers re-plated. I wouldn't use poly bushings if you are using the stock strut rods. The poly bushings don't compress as much and can hold the control arm too far back...

Totaly confused about Strut Rod Bushings and Washer

The confusion is that the Moog parts say(or did at one time)to install them like your picture shows. The Moog washers have "this side out" stamped in them. I don't know why they did that. The factory installed them opposite of how yours are.(washers "cup" the bushing) Someone has replaced...

    LCA sits on bump stops?

With the suspension hanging all the way down, the bar should basically line itself up with the LCA. Sometimes you have to remove the UCA bump stop so the suspension will drop another inch or so. Also have a look at the torsion bar x-member. Make sure the welds on the torsion bar socket...

Color of power steering gear box

I believe all power boxes were painted black. The paint was very cheap and didn't last long. This is the case with B and E bodies. That's why I assume A bodies are the same.
