    installing splash shields

The inexpensive gun I bought didn't come with a cup so I bought 1 bottle of 3M body schutz. 1 bottle of body schutz did a medium coat on 3 wheel wells. It goes on and looks factory right after you spray it but as it dries, it levels out and looks too flat. I went over the top with RestoRick's...

    installing splash shields

Yes that one is on too . I didnt take that one off. Just the upper one. Its under a lot of pressure.and it was holding me up. I was able to get the shield slipped in, possitioned and bolted in. Then I put the upper rubber back on.

    installing splash shields

I got it. I had to take the 2 bolts loose at the bottom of the fenders and take off the rubber at the top. Then they went in. Yes, new weatherstrips from DMT.

    installing splash shields

I'm hoping to be able to spray undercoating on my 68 this weekend since it looks like it's going to be the last good weekend before winter. I need to get the splash shields in place before I start masking off the body. I took this car apart in 2013 so I'm a little fizzy on some things. I seem...

    68 side marker gaskets

My original side markers are completely burried and would take a long time to dig out so I'm asking here... The reproduction side markers come assembled with the lens inserted into the housing first, then the gasket and finally the back half of the housing is screwed on. Is this correct? In...

    door handle/mirror reinforcement plates

When I bought the car, the doors were really wavy around the handles. It's really thin metal and years of pulling on it cause it to move around. I assume B-bodies are the same way since they have similar handles. E-bodies have a little more reinforcement on the inside around the handles. The...

    door handle/mirror reinforcement plates

Who here has used the door handle and mirror reinforcement plates from Dynamic Renovations? The instructions for the mirror reinforcement plates don't call for any urethane between the plate and the body. You just put the plate up against the inner door and bolt the mirror down. A few days...

If you ever need a windshield, try these guys

Thanks for the update. It looks really good once installed. I was a little skeptical but his may be the route I take. Thanks again.

If you ever need a windshield, try these guys

Pictures please. Clear AMD glass is super expensive. If the tinted more widely available glass looks good then I might go that route.

Do you have any plans to repaint the grill? The reproductions all come painted incorrectly for a GT and GTS.

    Radiator Core Support Blackout

You're working on a Dart which could very well be different then a Barracuda. Here are some pictures of my 68 Dart. The headlight bucket area wasn't sprayed but everything else was. Even the top of the latch support. You can see that the blackout in the center area that is exposed behind the...

    Loud hood hinges

I used it because the spray grease I used didn't do anything to quiet the hinges. I wanted to find what was actually making the noises and I know WD will flow into tight spaces. Spraying WD into the spring made a big difference so that told me that the spring was the location of the noise. I...

    Loud hood hinges

Thanks for all the input on this. This is my first A-body and I didn't know what was normal and what wasn't. My Challenger hood is pretty quiet. There are just some faint spring noises when you open/close the hood.(that has a completely different setup) Before I lubed everything it was...

    Loud hood hinges

I should probably have someone open and close the hood while I'm in the wheel wells looking for anything out of the ordinary. Making sure the other pivot points aren't ovaled out and moving in a strange fashion.

    Loud hood hinges

That's what I was getting at. Maybe with some rust in between the coils, that's where the noise is coming from. When the springs twist, the coils have to slide on each other. With rust there, it isn't a smooth process and it makes popping/groaning noises. If that makes sense?

    Loud hood hinges

68 Dart Trying to see what the consensus is...where the noise usually comes from. The spray grease didn't work it's way into the area that's making the noise. The WD is helping so it's working it's way into something. If the noise is coming from in between the coils of the hood springs...

    Loud hood hinges

My hood hinges are very loud. There is a lot of popping and banging when you open and close the hood. They looked completely dry so I lubed everything I could see last night. First I sprayed everything down with spray white grease. That didn't seem to do much. Then I sprayed everything with...

undercoating inside the doors and sound deadener

The car just got painted. The bottom of the doors didn't need any work. They were perfect. The inside of the doors were completely sprayed with primer.(epoxy I assume) The drains are free and clear. The sound deadener is for "sound"...not rust protection.

undercoating inside the doors and sound deadener

I heard from some other people that they installed the sound deadener over the factory undercoat. I have (4) sheets left so I'll put three sheets in the doors and call it good. Once the glass is in and all adjusted, I'll put the last sheet on the inner door skin. That's got a lot of noise to...

So, did they undercoat the inside of the doors when the beams showed up?

undercoating inside the doors and sound deadener

There is already factory spray-on undercoat inside the doors. I'm using the foil backed butyl(Fatmat/Noico/Kilmat) type sound deadener on the floor and was going to use it inside the doors. Now I'm questioning whether it's needed in the doors since there is already undercoating there.

undercoating inside the doors and sound deadener

So, my 68 Dart has factory undercoating inside the doors.(on the inside of the outer skin) There are no impact beams or anything inside the doors...they are just a hollow shell. Did the factory add an impact beam inside the doors at some point? What year? If/when an impact beam was added...

    Wing window removal/installation

Now that I think about it, the pivot isn't that long and doesn't extend down low enough to gain access with the door panel off. The screw/clip is up a lot higher. Probably inline with the allen screw hole in the upper door skin. I'm probably screwed until I get the parts back.

    Wing window removal/installation

Both frames are out. I have them disassembled already on the bench. What I need to know is if there is access to the screw and clip with the frame in the door. I thought someone with their door panel off could look to see if there was a hole in the inner door structure to access that screw...

    Wing window removal/installation

I looked at the 69 service manual but it didn't say anything about removing just the wing window glass/chrome pivot piece. Can the wing window glass and chrome pivot piece be removed and installed with the rest of the frame installed in the door? Or does it have to be installed into the door...
