How much power will a stock 904 handle

Weak link in the 904 is the stamped drum. A billit drum will greatly extend the power capability

    Olds/Pontiac 9.3 in an A-Body?

Be aware the 9 1/4 is a strong but heavy axle. More so than a 8 3/4. Good for drag racing, not so much for road racing or autocross.

    Olds/Pontiac 9.3 in an A-Body?

Thats a fair price. Does it have a sure grip in it?

    Olds/Pontiac 9.3 in an A-Body?

Any used rear axle you buy used more than likely will require some work, at least to check it out. If it is not the right size for an A body, it will require shortening and perches moved. Why not look for a Chrysler 9 1/4 out of a dodge pickup. You could also get a axle out of a grand Cherokee...

Anyone look at an XJ cherokee rear end for a BBP conversion?

Not well versed in this subject other than Rick Eherenburg suggested this swap. On one of my junkyard crawls I dove under a bunch of grand Cherokee’s. The pinion gear shaft looks small and weak. Not sure if they were the right axles though. Probably stand up to a /6 or a stock 2 barrel v8...

    8 3/4 or…?

Depending of what use it will get with that horsepower, you are best going with a 9 1/4 or a dana 60.

    Would you run these axles?

I’d run those with slicks on a glued track, of course I’d inspect them frequently. I believe your good to go if they don’t run out. I bought a car that was raced with drilled out for BBP without filling the SBP holes at 10’s with a 550 hp engine and thats just crazy dangerous. I would have just...

A833 small block scatter shield recommendations?

Those things have gone through the roof pricewise. I would suggest buying new to ensure you get guaranteed safety for your money. Not sure if one brand is better than another but the brand you buy should have a safety certification and pass NHRA tech inspection.

Everyone's opinion for rear end to go with?

D60 for sure over the 8 3/4. Wouldn’t go over 450 hp/torque with a stock 8 3/4 especially if using slicks on a glued track. 8 1/4 for a stock engine street driver would be ok. another option would be a 9 1/4, readily available out of a junkyard pickup. My local yard priced me one about a year...

    8 3/4" How Strong?

I agree, or an 8 3/4 with aluminum center section, beefed up housing, caps and axle. All the same issues with an 8 1/4. really, what is the tipping point from handling to horsepower/ torque in autocross?

    8 3/4" How Strong?

The stronger the rear axle, the more its going to weight. The more weight, the more poorly its going to handle. For autocross it would be best to back off max torque and horsepower and build a engine with good torque matching the rpm it comes out of corners at so it pulls hard and match the...

What rear axle to purchase and narrow

I say mopar 9 1/4. Local junk yard $350 out of a truck and will go through it to make sure it’s good. Told him I was going to narrow it for a dart and new gears with a sure grip and he said $250 as is.

Putting a late model 8 1/4 Jeep rear end in a 66 Dart

I believe the big deal about this swap is weight, finding an axle that has an aluminum housing. I looked at my local yard and could not find one. Also the axles I saw looked as weak as a 7 1/4 is. Maybe I didn’t look enough to find the right axle. It all depends on how much power you are putting...

8 3/4 rear end LSD identification

With that kind of torque NO 8 3/4 is going to last long, especially at the drag strip on slicks and a glued track. You need to step up to a 9 1/4 or a dana 60.

I saw this Moser stuff today

when was the last time you saw an 8 3/4 axle housing with axles and bearings for sale on FABO for less? this stuff is new and has a warranty. if I was drag racing in a specific purpose drag car, I would consider a Dana but for a street car, ITS TOO DAMN HEAVY. more than likely I would go with...

I saw this Moser stuff today

This looks like the perfect street/strip housing with plenty of options to be cost effective without the weight of a dana 60. In the end you would spend the same on buying and refurbishing a stock 8 3/4 housing.

Rear end selection help and opinions

if you find yourself at a drag strip with slicks and glued track, a 8 3/4 may not stand up too long. kind of like Russian roulette. then again a Dana 60 will cost $$$$ and your street ride will suffer cause of the weight. even a 9 1/4 is quite hefty. if never a set of slicks and limited drag...
