Temp gauge climbs to the max as I try starting the car. Car won't run.

If you pulled the wiring from the temp sending unit and the gauge didn’t move then sounds like the sending unit has no resistance to ground. Do you have a multi meter? Check the resistance in ohms from the terminal post on the sender to ground. cold engine should be at or above 72 ohms if it’s...

I agree I didn’t notice they were for a b body but a hood bolt is a hood bolt 66 to 75. They are 5/16-18 X 1” long with I believe 3/4” OD captured washer. Pretty easy to search for the correct bolts for the hood man!

    Compressor disconnected?

I agree and although it wouldn’t engage anyway without pressure the pressure switch would prevent it. But still the same I would remove the belt if the clutch Has any static drag it will turn the pump since it’s doesn’t have any liquid or pressure. Just my 2 cents worth:lol:

    Compressor disconnected?

A compressor is a pump and it needs refrigerant for lube. It has a clutch but if it engages you would damage the compressor it would be best to remove the belt.

    What is this switch?

If you have enough r12 refrigerant to charge the system I would use it but know if it leaks it's like losing gold! To properly change an r12 system to 134a you need to remove the oil From the system and replace with ester oil The two oils are not compatible.
