Check the hose at the tank for leaks as stated above if that don’t cure it your probably gonna need to check the sending unit pickup tube if it’s the original. There’s a chance there could be a pin hole rusted in it an easy way to check that is filler up and see if the air disappears.

There’s no substitute for the seat of the pants feel of a well tuned carb FI is probably easier to tune and probably starts easier and no doubt makes good power. Mainly depends on the wallet I guess.

If you look inside the right rocker panel you will see the holes for the fuel line clips and same on the left side for the brake line. Also there should clips welded to the floor pans for each of the fuel and brake lines

It was a mat very similar to roofing tar paper

You need a fuel pressure gauge to be able to monitor fuel pressure to see if it’s actually running out of fuel.

how much fuel pressure is being delivered to the carb?

have you checked to make sure your choke is working properly. If it’s partially closed after warm up it would do what you described.

your float is probably hung up. while driving the float is constantly moving up and down and in time the moving contact rubbing on the wire resistor wears a hole in the moving contact and has a tendency to hang on the resistor wire

the values for the sender are 10 full 23 half and 72 empty

Treblig, I recommend sending your original sending unit out to be rebuilt. the repops are not very accurate.

I have To agree if it's accurate use it and in the future if you put a fire breathing engine in you'll have the sending unit covered for the fuel delivery.

Yep it's a mess for sure but can be welded up but would require a bit of work with a die grinder and some machine work on the mating surface after welding
