I can't say I have ever heard of a positive lead on a push in light bulb? Nor have I ever put them in a specific way.

    Entire 69 dart wiring harness

Electrical in our cars is a system of sending power to an a enable part and that part having a ground on the other side to complete the circuit. Some times it happens when the key is turned to on or to start. Sometimes it happens when a switch is enabled. Sometimes it is live all the time. It is...

Show us some odd ignitions from the past

I am considering trying this on my 350. Don’t know much about them but I got the whole package fairly cheap and figure what the heck. Maybe next spring it will be revived for a test.

Jump the solenoid. That will tell you which direction you need to go.

    Where do these plugs go?

I just went out to look. You’re right. Red tee shaped plug. Having said that, I have no plug like the one in question under my hood on the drivers inner fender. My car is a 4 speed so certain stuff could be different. Did the car have cruise or AC? Just thinking of options. Mine is basic so not...

    Where do these plugs go?

Being a 74, that first plug could have been related to the seatbelt interlock system. Blue should be hot, and is that yellow going to the starter solenoid? I have a 74 Duster, but that was all changed long before it got to me or I could help. I can get a pic tomorrow of the two plugs that are...

    Ammeter pegged...

Just a tidbit of possibly related info. A couple days ago I opened up my engine harness because the "blue" wire was melted inside of it. I found the burnt section ended prior to any real damage, but the cause was that the previous owner had installed an aftermarket carburetor and left the...

Quick dumb questions for a dumb idea.

I should have mentioned, this is a 66 Coronet. Part of my thinking was due to the fact that the lighter is right beside the key vs in the ashtray. It would be almost a natural motion to do it! :) I still may buy a switch and mount the lighter knob on it. It’s not so much just anti theft because...

Quick dumb questions for a dumb idea.

Honestly, I was wondering if you could just more or less take the start wire from the ignition switch and hook it to the lighter. Then make the lighter so it didn't "stick in" and just popped right back out. Then you would push it like a button and release it at start up. Take it out and throw...

Quick dumb questions for a dumb idea.

This is implying the answer to one of my questions. Whether or not the lighter would handle the amperage draw to engage the solenoid. This way it would have to.

Quick dumb questions for a dumb idea.

That is a good way. I was just thinking of the push button effect.

Quick dumb questions for a dumb idea.

Maybe a dumb idea, but I require some input form someone who knows! But I don't mind being embarrassed! :) I have looked in my manual and I think that it tells me there is about 20-22 amps being drawn to engage the solenoid on the starter. Am I out to lunch here? I might be missing something...

cranks but no spark at coil

That's kinda what I was figuring. I don't know the cost of one, but I'm sure the headache of failure and having to buy anyway would negate the worth of the effort!

cranks but no spark at coil

Reviving your thread Steve! Today I wanted to start my 76 dually. It's a 383 that drove to where it sits.......months ago though. So I try to start it and low and behold, it acts like no spark. So I searched the forum and went through a few threads. I ended in this one. I thought I was chasing...

I know it sounds ridiculous, but the last two times I have seen this, the battery connections themselves were loose. Only put on by hand and the connection just wasn't good enough.
