    1987 Dodge D150 pickup 5.2l 318 cid

I have an 87 Ramcharger with a 318. It is a factory roller cam engine with the 302 head castings. I rebuilt it stock except for having a good valve job, factory cast iron 4bbl intake, MSD ignition and dual exhaust. Truck runs like a champ. I would do it again, except for a Performer intake just...

    Basic 318 info needed

My vote is for the 88 engine. I swapped 318s in my 87 ramcharger for one that was an 88. Has the factory roller cam, #302 heads and the pistons were .018" on the hole compared to the 87 motor that was nearly double that. I rebuilt the 88 completely stock and the power difference is night/day to...

    318 to 360 swap

I just stacked a few washers between the block and the 318 mounts.

    Stock 72 318 power gains

My thoughts. Do a 318willrun port job on the heads with a 3 angle valve job and matching springs for the cam. I did 360 manifolds into a jegs 2-1/2" duals, 340 cam, weiand stealth and HEI ignition. Nice sound and runs pretty strong.

    2 Intakes

That Weiand is a great intake.

    Another 318 Build... Surprise!

I would not run the Summit cam. There was a show that used that cam on a dyno and it made very little power over a stock 360 cam. 73 up 340/360 manifolds can be found relatively cheap on Ebay or on here. I'm running them in my Duster with TTI head pipes and Summit dual exhaust. I have a brand...

    Help needed passing Emissions!

10* and it had the 2 heavy springs in it. I pulled right up from driving there and didn't lift the hood until I got home. I was honestly surprised how much it lowered it.

    Help needed passing Emissions!

Got it to pass this morning. Thank you! I ended up putting an MSD 8388 distributor, Blaster 2 coil and 8.5 super conductor wires on it that I robbed from an engine on the stand for my Duster. I also bought a Digital 6A box, but hadn't installed it yet. Guy asked me what i did and told him I...

    Help needed passing Emissions!

I wish! Shoot, they failed me last inspection B/C I didnt have cats on it, even though I passed the sniffer test. I was pissed. An extra $160.00 for nothing.

    Help needed passing Emissions!

I need to find a station around here that sells e85 and dump some in. I heard gas line antifreeze has the same effect, but you need A lot of it. I might try this with everything else

    Help needed passing Emissions!

Makes sense. It has #302 heads on it so I suppose that is probably not liking the initial timing either. I have tuned it this way to get me the best MPG on the highway. What everyone is saying makes sense to me. Thanks

    Help needed passing Emissions!

Everything is new. I have less than 6,000mi on stock rebuilt 318. The carb is stock jetting except for heavy step up springs. (Maybe lighter springs now I think of it to hold the metering rods down longer) The distributor is a new stock replacement. FSM calls for 08*BTDC, so I can stand to...

    Help needed passing Emissions!

Hi folks! It's that time again when I need to get my 87 Ramcharger inspected again. It failed emissions testing again. Last year my Hc were through the roof and this year it's the Co readings. It is a stock rebuild 88-318 with 5,800 on the motor. I have an edelbrock 1406, (3,500mi on new carb)...

318 Can't keep fuel in filter, stalls when hot.

Reading all the comments and the first thing that comes to mind is the tank is under a vacuum. Open the car when it is acting up and see if you then get fuel. The pump will pull fuel until it runs out of air in the tank, then creates a vacuum to where it will not pull anymore fuel.

    Promaxx magnum heads

Anyone use the Promaxx heads for magnums? I have 2 cracked heads for my 5.9 and machine shop won't touch them. Complete stock rebuild except for .030" pistons going in my 97 Ram. DODGE RAM 1500 PROMAXX Performance CHR807N PROMAXX Performance Stock Replacement Cylinder Heads | Summit Racing

    Ebay magnum heads

I'm doing a rebuild for my 97 ram and was wondering if anyone has used these heads from Ebay? I thought my the time I bought springs, had em redone etc, it it would be just as cost effective and easier to just get these, or from Odessa head service. Any thoughts? 5.9 MOPAR DODGE MAGNUM JEEP...

    Magnum head bolts

Ok, thanks. It is a stock rebuild and the first time it has been apart. I didn't think they were TTY bolts. Just wanted to be sure.

    Magnum head bolts

Do you all replace head bolts when rebuilding a magnum engine? I'm gathering parts to rebuild a 5.9 for my 97 Ram, and all the gasket sets say to replace the bolts. It it necessary on a magnum? Thanks!

Go to street cam from the 70s-80s.

Always had good luck with the Crane .467/.494 cam, but that was late 80s early 90s

LA 318 to replace 5.2 magnum for 97 Ram

Yes, thanks. that was another detail I missed along with the engine mounts. I have decided to rebuild the 5.9 magnum I have on the stand instead.

    Timing chain set

I will say, when I bought my ramcharger eith 104,000 miles, I replaced the timing chain with one of the cheaper cloyes roller chain and put a tensioner on it as well. I had to change the timing cover some 8 months later and the tensioner was all chewed up from the roller links. Maybe 8,000...

LA 318 to replace 5.2 magnum for 97 Ram

LA 318 to replace 5.2 magnum for 97 Ram

My 97 Ram needs a new motor. The crank is all groovy, I've replaced mains 2x already. has low oil pressure with a HV oil pump. So, I have a 1990 LA 318 (factory roller) had been bored .060, balanced but I dont know what pistons are in it. Been on the stand for years. It was built by a shop for...

Synthetic oil use on flat tappet cam after break in

I switched to Royal Purple in my ramcharger. Actually gained a fuel mileage, ran smoother, lifters quit clattering on cold startup. Never dropped a drop of oil from any seal either.

poly or rubber spool motor mounts

That silicone idea is genius! Wish I knew about that years ago... I had a 61 impala, 409-4speed that would constantly blow out the driveshaft carrier bearings from the housing. That may have saved me hundred of dollars on spare bearings.

installing 340 in 69 dart with exhaust manifolds bolted on

I had to put my DS manifold in after I set the motor in. It was in the way of the steering shaft. I put it in, up through the bottom. However, it was in a Duster and not sure if it makes a big difference or not.

    Finding an internal vacuum leak

Thank you all for the responses. I've been Dickering around this truck all day, until now. I put a 4011, 650 holley on it and I just wasnt quite happy with it. Fitment issues with EGR and linkage. So I took apart the new 650 that was on it that was sputtering etc... everything clean as it...

    Finding an internal vacuum leak

Has not been milled at all and using the steel intake gaskets with a light skim of permatex ultra grey around the ports. I cant find any leaks by spraying carb cleaner anywhere when it runs. No signs of burning oil. I cant smell any oil at the tailpipes with it running. I dunno. Just a bit...
