Feel like 360 should have more power

With compression numbers that low, I don't think you are going to get much performance at all. You might be able to get it running decent (like a bone stock engine), but I would not expect too much power.

    Someone please help me

With all of the millions of Ford engines in junk yards that would be an easy, plug and play drop-in, I can't imagine why you would put in a 318. I am honestly not trying to be a jerk, I am just trying to understand.

    Just a 284-484?

I TOTALLY agree. there is a BIG difference between just throwing in a 284 484 cam and really setting up the rest of the engine. Then there is the matter of setting up the rest of the car for launching, acceleration and traction.

    340 vs 440

Sorry, gotta disagree. I know a LOT of people who have crate engines, and they are all happy with them. Although there may be a few bad ones, and a few shady builders, I think most builders are OK. I certainly DO agree that having a reputable builder build an engine is good peace of mind, but I...

Need advice racing a 380 horse crate engine

Check the carb linkage too. I have seen on several occasions where the carb linkage is not opening the carb all the way when the gas pedal is on the floor.

    Thumpr cam crap

I still like my Comp 268XE. It has a nice "thumping" idle and gives me oodles of power. For a street cruiser in a small block, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better cam. Just IMO, of course.

I wonder why they call them THUMPERS!

    Better Performance Output

Sounds VERY similar to the 340 in my 69 Barracuda. A 750 Edelbrock worked fine for me. Lots of power. I did re-jet the primaries down two steps though. It was running rich while cruising around the streets, but that took care of it, and I noticed no difference when I stomped on it.

First time removing BB cast iron heads in A body.

In fact, you can go to China Freight (AKA Harbor Freight) and buy a 90 degree drill for about $30. They come in very handy.

    Too much fuel?

You have received a lot of excelent ideas. I would like to add that your carb could be shot and letting in too much fuel. Once you have tried all the ideas presented, I think it might be wise to look into the possibility of a bad carb.

    Too much fuel?

I think I see the problem. The car is lying on its side and the fuel is flooding into the carburetor. LOL

Mexican Mopar 360: i need to know how to have more horsepowers

Ez Equiel, From what I can see, you will need to do 4 things to get to 200kph (about 120mph): 1. First (and muy imortante) make sure your car is safe to go that fast. Check the tires, check the suspension and check the brakes carefully. I would not want to be going 120mph with bad ball joints...

Mexican Mopar 360: i need to know how to have more horsepowers

Hola. Before we try to help you, we need some information. Tell us more about the engine if you can (camshaft, intake manifold, exhaust manifold or headers, what kind and size of carburetor, transmission and rear end gears. it is hard to make recommendations without any information.

is my cam to big for the heads i have

I also have a 69 340 with Stock 2.02 heads and the XE268H cam. I also have the Eddy Air Gap, 750 Eddy Carb, 1 5/8 inch headers, 4 speed and 3.55 gears. It pulls like a train. Maybe I just got lucky with the parts combo.

    Looking for some basic mods?

Headers, 2.25 inch dual exhaust, new intake, 4 barrel carb and a good tune up would go a long way. That should all be easily doable for under a thousand dollars. I like the idea of looking at the brakes also.

    Cam Advice

I'd go with the Comp Cams XE 268. I have that cam, Comp Cams recommended springs, Edlebrock Air Gap intake, 1 5/8 inch headers and a 750 CFM Edlebrock carb. This combo (with an 800 CFM Edlebrock carb instead) made 392 HP in a Mopar Muscle Magazine article a few years ago. So I figure I'm at...
