    Whistling holley 1920

Well, @slantsixdan is an expert, so I would certainly listen to him. I do, however, have one more suggestion. Was the car idling fine? If not, there could be a slight air leak somewhere. Look for something that is loose. I had a friend with a Volarie SW with a slant 6, It was idling poorly, and...

Broke my water pump bolt. Now what? (Update - broken bolt is out)

Cruiser, left hand bits won't do anything at all for a bolt that is stuck that hard. From what you have said in the last 4 pages, there is NOTHING you are going to be able to do at hour home with what you have available. Let's be honest and think about your options. 1. Find a mobile welder who...

Broke my water pump bolt. Now what? (Update - broken bolt is out)

That happened to me once. I was trying to rebuild a brake caliper on a 65 Corvette I was restoring, and the bleeder valve bolt was stuck. I used an easy out, and it broke flush with the surface. I called a few local places, and they said that with a broken easy out in it there was nothing they...

Broke my water pump bolt. Now what? (Update - broken bolt is out)

Hey, @cruiser, This is a great idea. If the engine is on a stand, you could back a pickup truck with the tailgate open up to the engine stand and put the engine in the back of a truck. Then take it to a machine shop. HOWEVER, I REALLY like the idea @Super-Cuda had. find a welding service that...

Broke my water pump bolt. Now what? (Update - broken bolt is out)

The welding trick would be my first choice with that much sticking up. Do you have a friend who welds? Try heating up with area with your propane torch and using vice grips. After you get the area hot, try rapidly alternating your twisting Clockwise then Counterclockwise. This may help break the...

    Won’t idle after new muffler

Sometimes we spend a lot of time looking for other things since we "Know" it can't be that "New" part. Then later we find that the new part was defective.

    Won’t idle after new muffler

A friend of mine had a Volare Station wagon with a similar problem. I took a look at it, and somehow the carb had gotten loose. You could hold the top of the carb and wiggle it around while the base stayed solidly fastened to the manifold. I took the carb off, and the somehow the screws that...

69 Dart Hard to Start When Hot, Starts Fine Cold. Vapor Lock?

Not trolling at all. Please don't take offense. You are new to the forum, and we get questions all the time from people who have mechanical abilities ranging from poor to expert. I probably could have worded it better, but my first thought was a choke problem, so I wanted to know how you checked...

I hate to ask this question, but how did you check the choke for proper operation?

    Jeep 4.0 in 69 Barracuda

I was thinking that a modern V6 like in my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee might be a nice swap in a 69 Barracuda. It is surprisingly powerful, gets good gas milage and drives smoothly.

    Air cleaner chocking out engine

Definitely sounds like the carb is in (or very near to) full choke and staying there. Like @pishta said, look carefully for something that is keeping the choke from kicking off.

    Am I de-valuing this 72 Duster?

Who cares. It's your car. Make it your own. I would never worry unless I had a fairly rare, matching number trailer queen. Otherwise, make it what you want. The more enjoyable it is to drive, the more you will drive it.

Broken Studs on Manifold and crack :(

You should not have too much trouble finding one. However, you really need to post this in the "Wanted" Forum. There is a better chance of someone responding to a posting with a title of "WANTED: Exhaust Manifold for Slant Six" Than "Hey, I got a crack in my manifold. Good luck.

    Return of the slant six?

Or will it just be the 4.0 straight 6 from the Jeep line a few years ago reborn and tilted a few degrees. Don't get me wrong, the 4.0 is a good engine.

    Rough idle in Gear

I had a good friend with a Volare Station Wagon /6, and the same thing (pretty much) was happening to him, and he asked me to take a look at it. I took the air cleaner off, thinking I might need to adjust the carb. When I touched the carb, it kind of wiggled a bit. somehow, some screws that went...

    6=8 and bore over?

IF you can do your own work, you could perform a VERY nice V8 swap (Mopar 360 or 318) with that budget. If you want to fix the six (hey, I'm a poet), that would be up to you. I'd do some serious soul searching first. If deep down inside you want a V8, then fixing the six will never satisfy you...

engine stalls when put into drive

Same thing happened with a friend's /6 in a station wagon years ago. Turned out to be the carb was just loose enough to cause a vacuum leak.

    Mystery - Strong Fuel Smell

I was wondering about the carb. Are you running rich? It looks bigger than a stock carb. About 8 years ago I put a 750 carb on my modified 340. Every time I drove it I smelled like gas, the car smelled like gas, and the garage smelled like gas, but there were no leaks. I jetted the primaries...

    performance on a budget??

I TOTALLY agree with diymirage. If you do plan to put a v8 in it someday, just tune it up and drive it for now. Every penny you spend on 'hopping' up the /6 is money you could be spending on the v8 conversion.
  27. harrisonm

    performance on a budget??

OK, my two cents worth. First, if you really want to stick with the /6, then I would first do a compression check. If you have poor compression in a few cylinders, there is little reason to proceed. If the compression test is good, then I like the ideas of 2 bbl carb, less restrictive exhaust...
