Feb. TNT yields new personal best 8th mile

Very awesome . Some folks don't have any idea how hard/expensive those last hundredths can be. Often those hard ones are chassis, not power . Good on ya,

I'm thinking I put too small a cam in my 360 Magnum...

If you're gonna have to take 3 fat friend everywhere you go, just to be able to hook, - you need to be thinking about other things than cam . Have you ever driven a +400 h/p rear wheel drive car, just curious ?

I'm thinking I put too small a cam in my 360 Magnum...

It will be fine . Get the car to hook, or 200 h/p will be too much . Youll often find that once you build the perfect car in " theory", they're WILL be changes . I have often built an idea/concept, that when completed and tested, that "reality" forced some changes of those "theories" ...

    Compression

If you don't have headers, start there. You won't get full improvement with any addition till you can get rid of exhaust, the choke point. It's the most cost effective h/p improvement short of nitrous. jmo

Broken Piston Ring Found During Tear Down

I can understand cracked top rings cuz of the number of re-rings that would have been done without removing the ridge, and the new square edged ring pounding into the ridge, no idea on second ring, cept carbon buildup behind ring not removed on re-ring, the ring not able to move/compress freely...

Broken rocker arms two weekends in a row

I rotate the race engines a 1/2 revolution, a few times thru the winter, cuz my engines don't have rockers that back off .(Toyota OHC)

Broken rocker arms two weekends in a row

Sure, I always take broken stuff apart to see what/where it failed. I found it curious that it blasted apart as opposed to just hinging open as others I've seen , Good luck .

Broken rocker arms two weekends in a row

If the needles have worn ridges ( like a worn u-joint, limited motion back and forth created troughs) that the needles recess into, that the initial pressure to get the needle/rocker to move, could be twice the actual force needed to "rock" ? ? With the extreme spring pressures . Pic is extreme...

Broken rocker arms two weekends in a row

I'm curious if you looked at the shafts or the actual shaft roller bearings and the actual surfaces of the outer bearing race, and the shaft. If there was brinelling on either surface, that might cause vibration or stress on the rocker. Can you crack one of the damaged bearings apart to look at...

Broken rocker arms two weekends in a row

If you can't get rockers, can you get bushes made like leaf spring rubber bushes with a shoulder, to insert where the bearings are. That'd spread stress, - or some variation thereof ? Spitballing .

Broken rocker arms two weekends in a row

If you replace the rockers with stronger, problem won't take long to find, if it's something else. Once is an anomaly, twice has a cause, in my experience .

Broken rocker arms two weekends in a row

I've never liked roller brgs on the shaft , sooo much pressure on tiny surfaces, but now I see another reason .

Broken rocker arms two weekends in a row

Any indication the retainer is sawing/marring the rocker at the break. 2 Diff banks, gotta think interference, timing chain ? Fatigue, sure, agree. But what are odds of 2 conservative wknds. More likely something changed. jmo

Broken rocker arms two weekends in a row

Is it possible you're spanking a valve, I used to poke a pushrod thru when I missed a shift and spanked a valve. If you got a bore scope, see if you can see a witness mark on the piston. Maybe interference with the retainer and top of the valve guide. Weak valve spring ? Same cyl ?

What RPM should I shift at?

Every engine is different. Download a G-meter app, based on the accelerometer chip not GPS, (screen rotates), tape the phone beside your tach, when the g's drop, that's your shift point, you're slowing down when it drops. Shift points can be different in every gear . Good luck

Line Lock with Drum Brakes ?

If it were mine, I'd re-bleed the brakes, pull front drums, check shoe contact area. Find an old arcing machine if contact suggests that's the prob. Drag the brakes down the return lane a few times. Good luck .

    Drag Strips and Antifreeze

Roundy-round is a nightmare . Silicon has a very low co-efficient of friction, and doesn't burn, or evaporate . So tiger torches don't do a thing, and clouds of cement dust at a small track is always a fan favorite . It's a racer's courtesy to other racer's, - or it was .
