    Try using a 1/2" box end wrench or whatever will fit over the end to squeeze the prongs while you pull from the back...

    Yeah, that top triangle washer with the springs for the shoes may cause a problem... But with the bottom looser and the wheel cylinder loose, he may be able to heat up the adjuster better...

    Have you tried disconnecting the brake line and unscrewing the wheel cylinder??? That's most likely what is holding the top up, the nail studs from the wheel cylinder to the brake shoes...

    If the shoes are stuck to the drum, then you can take the drum with the shoes and all the springs off once you get the bearing nut off which you already have...

    Try grinding the nail heads off the back of the backing plate that hold the shoes to the backing plate and take the brake shoes with it.... The hardware and spring kits come with replacements, so you're not ruining anything that you can't replace...

    Take the bleeder screw out before you install the wheel cylinders and anti-seize the threads so they won't rust shut...

    If the old ones work, keep them they're better than the new ones... Just clean them up and anti-seize the threads....

    You can go with the stock 68 style set up, or I prefer to update it to the later style... Just order the spring, hardware, and shoes for a 72 duster and then you can change it to the more updated style of rear brakes...
