    4.2 lever change

Will you be doing it in the car? If so, it can be done but it's a little tricky to get the pipe plug out with the converter in the way. A 1/4" wobble extension can get it done, then you just have to work the shaft out through the bottom of the case enough to pull the lever. Just don't forget to...

Dana 60 in my 73 duster?

Pick a tire/wheel combo you want and build the rearend to work with them. Keep in mind that if you ever go to a big tire down the road, shorter backspacing (i.e., a narrower rearend) could make taking the tires/wheels on and off a lot easier.

    741 case 3.23 differential questions

Am I the only bonehead who can't see a gear mesh pattern in that photo? I'd measure the backlash, pull it apart, clean the gears really well with a wire wheel, inspect the hell out of the bearings, reassemble keeping the backlash the same as it currently sits (assuming it's in spec), and run...

    A518 46RH rebuild

That helps tremendously! Just measured mine and the tubes stick out 0.260" from the mounting surface, so I should be good. I got scared when I saw the tips of the tubes kind of flattened, but looks like yours are like that too, so that definitely eases my mind. Thank you again! I appreciate it.

    A518 46RH rebuild

This is a great thread. Thanks for posting all of the photos! Can you do me a huge favor and see how far those governor tubes stick out from the extension housing mounting surface? I made the mistake of setting mine face down on the flat garage floor and they got slightly tweaked. I'm trying...

    Preferred Transmission question

I'd certainly use a LU if I was starting from scratch. Since I've already got a 727 and good converter, it was a no brainer for me to go non-lockup.

    Preferred Transmission question

@1WildRT is right. I purposely sought out a non-lockup 46RH so I can use my current converter, but have an extra gear. They aren't the easiest to find and cores where I'm at when you can find one are pricey.

    Preferred Transmission question

I'm going 46RH just because I'll be able re-use my current 727 converter. Does the 42RH come in a non lock-up version?

    46RH Slip Yoke Trouble

Well, I can put this one to bed. My '91 518/46RH has an output shaft that match the splines on a 727. Just took out my 727 driveshaft and sure as ****, it slid right into the 518. Thanks @fshd4it ! I appreciate the input. There's no telling how long I would've stared at this thing until I...

    46RH Slip Yoke Trouble

Thank you. I appreciate it! I think I'm still going to pull my driveshaft and give it a shot just to double check. It's weird that in all my reading, I've never come across this. I wonder if all 46rh/518's use the 727 splines and the switch happened with the 46RE.

    46RH Slip Yoke Trouble

Thanks Greg. If this OD transmission I've got uses a 727 yoke, that would be ideal. Then all I'd have to do is have my current driveshaft shortened since it's already got a 727. I appreciate the offer though! I was under the impression that the OD transmission required a different yoke based on...

    46RH Slip Yoke Trouble

The output shaft does not have a double spline. The yoke doesn't quite make it to the bushing before it stops. It's definitely stopping on the splines. I'm at a loss here. I looked at a bunch of photos of 727 yokes and I'm convinced this isn't a 727 yoke. The 727 splines are much pointier.

    46RH Slip Yoke Trouble

I picked up a slip yoke for my 46RH today at a local auto wrecker. It came from a '95 Ram 1500 (2WD 5.9) w/ what looked like a 46RH/RE. It had a 2-piece drive shaft for what it's worth. I figured that slip yoke would work on my non-lockup 46RH, but it doesn't quite want to slide on. It'll start...

How many using an A500 overdrive ?

From the research I've done, it seems the spline count is the same, but the spline angle is different between the 727 and 518, so to do the swap you'll need a 518 slip yoke. I've noticed some aftermarket yokes are advertised to work for 727 and 518, but I'd bet they just machine extra spline...

How many using an A500 overdrive ?

I just picked up a non-lockup A518 for my '68 Dart for when I build the 408. I went that route so I can use the Dynamic 9.5" 727 converter that I've already got. It's crazy how much these OD transmission cores go for in my area.

    46RH Converter in 727?

I picked up a non-lockup 46RH a couple weeks ago and it came with the torque converter that was with it (originally from a '92 Ram w/ 5.9). Can I use this converter in a 727?

    Anyone here sell 727 parts?

Do you have a transtar nearby? Maybe call a local transmission shop and see if they can get them. Looks like the part number is 22232. Any transmission parts supplier should have them.
