custom backspace rims (wheel vintiques says nope)

Send him a link to this thread. Not that it'll matter, but it may help your cause. Either way, thanks for posting your feedback. That's how we find the good players out there.

custom backspace rims (wheel vintiques says nope)

It's still their responsibility to get them to you safely. Did you ask about having him file a claim with the shipper if he felt that strongly about it? Either way, I'd think long and hard into doing a charge back. It won't cost you a dime and it may very well end up in your favor. We can't...

custom backspace rims (wheel vintiques says nope)

How did you pay? If there any way you can do a charge back on your credit card? I'd maybe email them asking what an acceptable amount of runout is. If they're dumb enough to respond, at least you'll have something in writing that validates your claim.

Rear tire size on a 75 Dart

You're going about it backwards. If you want matching sizes all the way around, figure out the biggest tire you can run in the front and use those. Generally, you're more space limited in front than in the back.

    69 Dart tire size…

I should've clarified - when I said my rearend was built to factory width specs. With disks, I couldn't imagine the rotor adding much more that 1/8" to 3/16" per side over a drum. You really are better off hanging the rear and pulling some measurement. None of these cars are identical and...

Thanks man. It's just a beater, but it cleans up alright.

    69 Dart tire size…

To fit 275/60's in my '68 Dart sedan, I needed 15x8 wheels with a 4.75" BS. That was with a rearend built to A-body factory width. It's best to get your rearend in place and measure from there. With a 1/2" spring offset, there's not a lot of margin for error when it comes to backspace if you...

    Tire age

Explain the logic in that. The air on the inside is the same air on the outside. I've always figured the rubber used in tires naturally deteriorates over time and there factors such as UV light, physical stresses, etc. that speed that process.

Nice Duster! It looks much better with the black walls out in my opinion.

    17's and 15's

There are a few really nice looking cars on this site with 17's up front and 15's in the back. @clinteg comes to mind.

FINALLY!! Fresh M/T ET Street S/S’s

Nice!! What tires are your replacing? I only ask because I'm curious how close in size they are to a true 255/60, or if they're any bigger. I've got 275/60 Cooper Cobras that I'd like to replace with the same size M/T ET Street S/S's, but I have zero extra room.

Dog Dish Grip on Reproduction Steel Wheel

That could be why the caps don't fully seat.

Dog Dish Grip on Reproduction Steel Wheel

Probably a stupid question - but why must the factory coating be blasted off? I just scuffed mine, shot them with sealer, and single stage. They turned out great.

Dog Dish Grip on Reproduction Steel Wheel

Yep, I had the same issue on mine from Wheel Vintiques. I ended up having to build the lugs up with a small weld bead and dressing them down with a die grinder. Without doing that, the caps would fall off if I looked at them wrong. Granted, I bought mine about 8 yrs ago now.

    Dust Cap part numbers

FYI - The big end of an old pinion crush sleeve from a 489 case 8-3/4 is the perfect size to tap the cap in. I keep one just for that purpose.

    Front Runners On Street Car

27-28 inch front tires look killer on a car with 30's in the back. That's the combo I'm going for on my 66, but I will need to some "clearancing" on the front wheel arch to make it all work. I've got 27's on it now and they rub a tad on a turn, but part of that is due to the wheel width and...

    Age of "new" tires

What's funny (and something I neglected to mention) is that the tires are made in the USA, so I'm not sure the shipping delays would apply. Or maybe they do because they're waiting on supplies... Who knows? Yep putting only 5-6k miles per year on this pile means I'll likely only get 15-20k on...

    Age of "new" tires

Well, I went back and ask them about it. The supervisor said that all the 'new' tires they get now are 2-3, or even 4 years old. He cited covid-related issues, which seems to be the default excuse for all poor service these days. Who knows, maybe that's just me. When I asked him if he thought...

    Age of "new" tires

Thanks guys. I'm glad it's not just me being picky. They're good guys and I take all of mine and my fiance's cars there for tires. We just bought a set for her Focus a couple months ago actually. I always pay cash too so they appreciate it. I'm pretty sure they'll make it right. Yeah, that's...

    Age of "new" tires

Yeah, I'll definitely go back and at least ask them about it (nicely). I'm kind of ashamed I didn't notice it before I paid them. In my defense, the date code is on the inner side wall and I had to pop them all off just now to check.

    Age of "new" tires

Quick question for you guys - When you go to the local tire shop to get a new set mounted and balanced for your daily driver, how old would be too old for the new tires? For instance, if the new tires had a date code showing they were 3 years old, would you say something??? It happened to me...
