    2.45s 8 1/4 swap..

i have an 8.25 rear end in my valiant, but i want, scratch that, NEED new gears. i understand that i have to get a whole new piece to swap higher gears because of the machining to put 2.45 gears in it. i would just buy a new chunk, but i cant swap just the center of my rear as it only has a...

    Pilot bearing

that article about the tremec 5 speed conversion mentioned this... let me see where it is. they said it used some kind of roller bearing and the kit could be used with any motor (auto or manual crank that is) without machine work... im pretty sure it was what dgc333 just said about the truck...

oh, im sure it has a 904, but why would they denote it in the broadcast sheet as a torqueflite transmission if it were just a generic ol 904?

    are all transmissions torqueflite?

time to google this turnpike pkg. where's the info on torqueflites? im curious if i got a nicer stronger tranny, or just the generic.
  14. R

    are all transmissions torqueflite?

well, im not sure if theyre part of the package, but that would make sense... i think i read somewhere that in 75 on the 'nicer' valiants they gave them a lower/higher whichever you call it gear to improve mileage. OR it could be part of the weirdo emissions/mileage too...

    are all transmissions torqueflite?

are all of the mopar automatics classified as 'torqueflite' ? i was going over the broadcast sheet for my car and deduced that it has a 'torqueflite' (not sure which one though, prolly 904). but, i also confirmed that it has a 2.45:1 rear end, thus, i cant change the gears without a new 3rd...

    identifying rear-end gear

i got the build sheet from my car and looked it over, under "axle" it just says "3 1 6" im not exactly sure what this means. ill have to look it up later on, my lady wants me to go lay down with her while she takes a nap.

    identifying rear-end gear

oh, ok, i know what you mean. i was refering to getting a whole axle, but i didnt bother to think about the track width. but a 3rd member only would work for me. so, pre-97? ok.

    identifying rear-end gear

coyote jack, id love it, but im not sure about my rear end right now, it may be of the wrong variety to have gear swap. let me look into it, i may buy them from you, if you can give me a pretty good gaurantee that the chip wont leave me stranded somewhere ... :)

    identifying rear-end gear

son of a *****. ok, what if... i get a LSD 8.25 from a newer dakota? :) im not planning on being a hella hot rod anytime soon, so when i have the money to build up a nice 340/360 or whatever, ill probably have the money for a rear end too :) i think what ill do is use a 318, rebuild it, do...

    identifying rear-end gear

im telling you guys, its an 8 1/4, and if that was an option, my car has it. ill go find the build sheet for it and look it over again.

    identifying rear-end gear

it bubbles out like the second one and it doesnt have a drain plug, and is really round looking. see, the 7.25 has 9 bolts in it and the 8.25 has 10.

    it looks JUST like this
  28. R

    identifying rear-end gear

it MIGHT, but i really doubt it, just from looking at it... im gonna figure it out. it wouldnt surprise me a bit if it is a 8.25 because my car is one of the supposed 'super deluxe models.' after finding the build sheet, it had pretty much every option offered for that year+model.. its weird..
