Do or DONT fiberglass body parts

$35-40k in a ‘66 Valiant? You blew past any cost to value roadblocks about $20k ago. What is the car about? Race car? A fiberglass hood is one thing but once you start putting fenders, bumpers and a deck lid on you’re crossing the line into dedicated race car territory. Couple points - ‘glass...

    1968 QQ1 blue paint formula

QQ1 is "greener" than B5. I had a '71 Dart that was B5, definitely has a red tint to it especially the later years it was available. In certain types of lighting my car can appear turquoise. B5 is a totally different hue than QQ1. Most people don't realize '68 QQ1 is a one-year only color, they...

    1968 QQ1 blue paint formula

This is my car; This is the paint from my car. None of these numbers mean much of anything to me so it would be up to you or your body guy to decipher them. I've also found various things online; Omni Paint mix for QQ1 m122 94.7 m125 35.8 m118 26.5 m128 22.6 m124 21.6 m135 16.3 m150 274.9

To paint or not to paint the underside

Well, I started on the undercoating just to see what it would be like. As predicted, it sucks. My torch has been out of acetylene and I never exchanged the tank so I had the idea to use a wallpaper steamer just to try it out. It kind of worked but the torch works better, the direct flame is more...

To paint or not to paint the underside

Thanks for the replies so far. Frankly, I detest the undercoating and would like it gone. It sucks for the reasons I stated in the first post. Yes it's done it's job for 50 years but it's normal service life is long over and seems like it's only purpose at this point is to hold dirt and grease...

To paint or not to paint the underside

Soooo, my Duster is in pieces and has not run for almost 7 years. Until this last summer, it was in non-climate controlled storage for the previous 4 years. It's home now and I am beginning the process of putting it back together. I pretty much have all the mechanical pieces that I need on hand...

    Ahhh, perfect! Thank you A56.

Pics of 1971 Dusters with side stripes and vinyl top?

Did '71 Dusters with full vinyl tops ever come with full-length longitudinal side stripes? Mine has stick on belt-line molding that is coming off in a few spots. (see below) If I remove it, there's a lot of orange with nothing to break it up. I'm thinking the thin side stripes would look cool...

    Duster Antenna Delete Plug/Cap?

No, radio delete fender plugs were '68-up. But I imagine if you found a factory delete plug no one would bat an eye.

pin on hood, rear pin location pic request

Guys with pin-on fiberglass hoods - where are you putting the rear hood pins and how are you mounting them? Got a 'glass hood on it's way to me from AAR need to figure out where to put 'em. Nothing is jumping out at me. Front is no problem, the rears are a little bit of a conundrum. Pics...

    Early A sheetmetal sources?

Thanks for chiming in. Not sure what I need at the moment. Saw an old car of mine for sale, got the wheels turning a little. It's a '65 Valiant. When I sold it it needed quarter and fender patches and the inner fenders were starting to get crusty. Last time I saw it, it looked even worse! Just...

    Early A sheetmetal sources?

Wondering if there are vendors reproducing body panels for early A bodies these days? Layson's used to have patch panels - are they even in business anymore? I looked around a little, didn't see much. Might be looking at something for a long-term project. Just want to see what's available as...

Dual snorkel scoop on a '71 Duster pics

Thanks, that's what I was wondering about. Guess you could put in some sort of seal to make up the difference between the bottom of the scoop and the top of the hood but that may not look right. To get it to sit flush, it would probably just take careful trimming like I said. I suppose this...

Dual snorkel scoop on a '71 Duster pics

Cool, that would be great. It's probably just careful trial and error until it sits like its supposed to.

Dual snorkel scoop on a '71 Duster pics

Yep, that's it. Thanks. I would be mating the scoop to a fiberglass hood so the cutout would be wherever I put it. Did you have to modify the bottom of the scoop to fit the bulge or did it go on no problem?

Dual snorkel scoop on a '71 Duster pics

Looking for pics/info on putting a fiberglass hood with a dual snorkel hood scoop on a '70-'72 Duster. Anyone do this? Mostly looking for pics here to get a good visual understanding. Search came up pretty short. Choices are somewhat limited for this deal. Basically there are three flavors -...

Either this will be brilliant or go down in a big ball of dam what the heck happened

Don't do it dude. It's a really bad idea. The original wing cars were not big sellers for obvious reasons - they're ridiculous. A good many of them sat on lots for a long time and dealers couldn't give them away. Sure, they made great race cars but no one wanted one of those monstrosities for...

opinion needed on a stupid pain-in-the-butt water leak...

I worked at a dealership. We were taught at school that the best way to find a water leak is to pressurize the cabin and spray soapy water (on the outside of the car) where you suspect your leak is. Here's how to do it: if you have a working heater, turn it all the way up with the fan on high...

Removing vent windows from 1969 by installing 1975 doors?

At a minimum, different upper doors. 73-up have the cheesy plastic trim. Perhaps it might be easier to remove the vent wings and install the 73-up glass, regulator and window channels. I have no way of knowing whether that would actually work, just thinking out loud. Would be cool to see if...

WTB - Lower 1/4 patch panels, who sells them???

Dante's - $149 each. See here. AMD does not list them on their site but this place has them for $129. Dixie Restoration Parts has them listed for $110 each. As mentioned above, Columbia Parts has them listed for $125. I've dealt with Dante's but not with any of the others. Clearly Dixie...

What paint for 8 3/4 housing?

Is there a 'correct' paint/finish for an 8 3/4 housing? I know there's chassis black and/or semi gloss black but I am curious as to whether there is a specific paint to use when painting a bare housing. Thanks, - Greg

Any easy ways to make my 71 valiant look better?

Rallye rims with black wall tires. Strip all unnecessary gee gaws and trim. There's always the cop car look too. Steelies, dog dish hubcaps yada yada yada.

    70 -72 bumper on 74 duster

I always thought this was a cool idea myself. If I had a '73-up Duster, I'd definitely be doing this. Here's a pic of someone that did exactly what you're talking about. He removed the trim around the tail lights too which looks cool. This was an article from Car Craft several years ago I...

    Wheel opening mouldings...yes..no?

Wouldn't have come with rear trim since the Hemi Darts had enlarged wheel openings. Chrysler was trying to upsell even with their race cars. Car probably came with 3.23 gears because it was up to the racers to decide gear ratio. Most likely ran 4.56 or 4.88.
