Nope, There is a machined groove on the inside of the cap that the snap c ring clips on the cap and a machined edge on the inside of the pinion to keep it from shifting around. its a Napa part. The only one I could find up here in Canada.

It's not the ears on the propeller/drive shaft, its the ears on the pinion. We're talking like 1/32"-1/64" to get the retainer clip in. I checked inside the cup, all the needle bearings were sitting right, there wasn't too much grease, I have the grease-able kind of u joint.

are you running a column shift or a console? Finding the shifter linkages for a 904 column is pretty easy. Finding a 727 to column is the tough part. My valiant had a 904 and someone swapped it to a 727 and it doesn't shift very smooth because the linkages and shafts don't line up very well...
