    340 noise issue

Sorry, they didn't melt, but disintegrated, (dried out i believe you said),yes, maybe there was more to it than just the synthetic, (it wasn't Mobil 1, but it was one of the first synthetics to come out in 1980), it was the Mitsubishi engine that was in the Arrow in the picture, the explanation...

    340 noise issue

the whole drivetrain is a transplant, modification done by someone else 2 owners 20 years ago. I was asking because I don't know what it should look like, I just think that it doesn't look right the way it is. I'll just take some pictures at the next show/cruise. It has a modified AT, so I don't...

Can you supply a picture of how that should look? I'm not disputing the adjustment, just curious why you think the rod should be adjusted. Not really happy with that whole carb aircleaner setup.

    340 noise issue

Is mobil 1 synthetic? I had a catastrophy many years ago with synthetic oil melting the seals. Since it's not a new build I think I'll avoid the synthetics. What is the deal with the Marvel oil?

    340 noise issue

Thanks. Will check the valve cover & lifters. I need to change the oil and filter anyway. In the 70's I used 20w-50 GTX oil, still a good idea for a '69 340? Is it still available?

    340 noise issue

WOW, you guys are quick, I'm worried it's a valve tap, someone told me the valve springs can lose tension depending on whether they're compressed or not, if they sit to long.

    340 noise issue

Have a 1969 340 installed in my 67 Barracuda. The engine sat for a long time, (owner said a couple of years), but I think it somewhere between 10 & 15 years to be honest. Turned it for a long time without the coil wire to pump the oil around. It runs ok but I can hear a distinct loud tap noise...

starting up 340 that's been sitting for a few years

The fuel pump wasn't gone, maybe clogged though, thought it might be because the glass precarb filter had no fuel showing, but I gave the fuel pump a few hard taps with a wrench, pumped the pedal and cranked it and now there's fuel showing in the filter. thought the brake master cylinder was...

starting up 340 that's been sitting for a few years

I think it's both wires and the fuel pump, there is a little glass fuel filter between the pump & the carb and it's dry.

starting up 340 that's been sitting for a few years

I can't get my 340 started after sitting a few years, the gas tank was dry an I refilled with fresh gas, it turns over well but won't ignite. The plugs & wires are new, cap and coil are old. Could the points be an issue? Should I just go electronic? Also will sitting so long become an issue with...

Looking to replace my 273 with a 318, which one?

If your 273 is a stock 2bbl I kinda understand, but a 318? If you can find one go for a 340? That said, if your 273 is the 4bbl "Commando" version restore it! This is a kick-*** engine and will get good MPG with 3.23 rear. Put a 4spd on it and you'll have a ball with it.

    67 - 273 4bbl and 69- 340 4bbl

I don't expect the same out of a 340 but my stock carter AFB got @23 mpg with a 273 in a 67 AT dart with 3.23 PT rear and could still tear it up. What do you guys get?

    67 - 273 4bbl and 69- 340 4bbl

it is a 340 with a 34o intake. I've been told the Holley is way too big and an edelbrock 550 would work nicely

    67 - 273 4bbl and 69- 340 4bbl

for some reason I recall the 67 secondarys being considerably larger than the primarys. the Holley is sitting on a 340 intake btw, what was the stockpaint color for the 273?

    67 - 273 4bbl and 69- 340 4bbl

What is the basic difference between AFB & AVS? Does anyon know which Carter model would have been on the 69 340?

    67 - 273 4bbl and 69- 340 4bbl

do the above share the same Carter 4bbl carb? if not what stock model did the 340 use? I have a Holley 750 DP on mine now and it's a roob job. Advice please.
