Does anyone have any helpful tips for installing the soft dust boots in the 73+ calipers? I swear these things are an IQ test, and I'm failing. LOL

    Master Cylinder Fittings

Does anyone know if autozone, o'reilly's, or Napa may carry the two brake line tube nut fittings for a later model master cylinder? Turns out, they're two different sizes (1/2-20, and 9/16-20 for 3/16 tube) I bought one 1/2-20 tube nut yesterday at napa, but it's a little too short. They sell...

Anyone know what this clip is for??

I'm putting the parking brake assemebly back together in my 66 dart and saw this "clip" in the service manual, but can't seem to find it in my parts stash. Does anyone know what it's for, or what it looks like in real life? This clip is used in '67 and '68 A body models as well, but not in '69.

    Stupid Dust Cap Won't Seat

Any of you ever have this problem? I've got 73+ rotors and dust caps that I got from a wrecking yard years ago. I recently installed them on my 66 Dart and I can't get the caps to seat. They fit snug as they should and won't fall off, but for some reason the lip on the cap is hitting the...

    Adjustable proportioning valve

I've got a 68 Dart with the stock 4-wheel drum prop valve, from what I understand is nothing more than a distribution block. I just completed a front disc conversion on the car and plan on plumbing in an adjustable proportioning valve. Does the Proportioning valve need to go after the stock...

    Master Cylinder Dust Boot???

Do later model A-body masters need the dust boot the earlier ones came with. I noticed during my disc brake swap, the 73-up master doesn't have a provision for a dust boot. Is that a problem???

    Bench bleeding a new Master

I just picked up a new master cylinder and need to bench bleed it. It came with plugs to plug the ports and instructions saying to just screw the plugs in and (with the top on) depress the piston multiple times until there is only about 1/8" of travel. I've never bench bled a master cylinder...

    parking brake cable question

I'm in the middle of swapping a 7 1/4 to a 8 3/4 in my 68 Dart. Can use the parking brake cables that are already on my 7 1/4? Will they plug into the 8 3/4 backing plates??? Thanks!!!

    Stupid Brake Question

On the retainers (the nail looking things with short coil springs and circular retainer cups) that hold the brake shoes to the backing plates, are you supposed to use 2 cups to sandwich the spring, or just put the spring against the shoe and use one retainer cup to keep the spring on. I always...

    Brake shoe question

Aren't rear brake shoes supposed to come with the little pins that hold the adjuster return spring? I brought home a set of shoes yesterday and noticed the pins weren't in the box when I got home. When I called them, they said the pins don't come with them. What the...???

    9" vs 10" rear drums

Since it seems impossible for me to be able to find a set of new 10 x 1.75" sbp rear drums, I'm thinking it would be easier to just swap to 9" drum assemblies on the rear, since I have to completely rebuild the brakes anyway. It looks like all of the 9" parts are readily available from the auto...

11" or 10" rear drums for a 10 second street car?

Are 11 x 2.5" drums overkills on a high 10 second street/strip 66 Dart? I picked some complete assemblies up recently for cheap and noticed they weigh a freakin ton. I've also got a set of 10 x 2.5's. I'm wondering if I should just stick with the 10" brakes for weight savings. All I really...

    pin type versus sliders

Why have I read that pin-type disc brakes are less desirable than slider type? I found a 11.75 pin-type disc setup at a junk yard. Is this worth putting on a street strip car even though they are the pin-type calipers? Would you recommend 11.75 discs on a street/strip car with skinny...

Can I use the dreaded "B" spindle?

I've done a ton of research on the taller "B" spindle and some sites say not to use them due to problems with bump steer and alignment issues. I've read others where they say go for it. I've even read threads from people who have done the swap and have had no problems. Is this just like an...

    rear brakes

If I have my 8 3/4 housing cut to standard A-body length, and order stock length 28" axles. Will I be able to use the brakes that came with the rearend (74 Pickup). Or will I have to get new backing plates and drums? Is there a way around this, using what I have?
